i love the build up at 2:33 - 2:45 it's actually too much for me!! i remember playing this at a particularly hard time in my life just about to get the ancient ship!! so epic. im not sure if it's just me but i havn't really enjoyed many games released after say 2003-4 maybe but this (and a few others) are just classic. Imagine this game on next gen just more enemies, items, weapons, bigger world to explore. it would be awesome

When you listen to a piece of music like this and think "Wow, I want to play this game again." it's a sure sign that what was created was a potential classic. I love this theme, I loved this game and I pray that somebody will realise that this is worth putting on the Classics HD list.

if you think about it, the story isn't very creative. But even then, they MADE it creative. Just think about it: The land, you just want to keep walkin over. The skies, you want to watch. The fun interactions, especially if Trode and Yangus were involved. The Church way of saving your game. The music... This game is enchanting.

@HardcoreHamster33 oh i purchased this around the time it came out, around 2004-2005. it's probably because i keep taking "breaks" with this game(like a MONTH BREAK)...& then start over because I don't remember where I am in the story. -___-
my furthest lv is 35 & i believe i took my "break" right after the pirate's den. Except this break was YEARS instead of months. So AGAIN I'm starting over. -___-
Currently lv 15 & back in Ascantha, but it's ok cuz it's my favorite part of the game...so far

@HardcoreHamster33 I actually looked for my PS2 and repaired it (without a clue of what I was doing) so I could play this game, Sly 3, and Final Fantasy X. To my disappointment, I lost/sold all of them. I still have my save though! Where I'm fighting the final Dragon Boss. Crazy nostalgia, I love it. The music in this game is beautiful, probably the best out of most games I've played.

@HardcoreHamster33 Can't say I'm an avid DQ fan as I've only played 8, Rocket Slime and DQM: Joker. Needless to say, they've all provided me with hours of fun, and I don't regret buying them at all. Square Enix is definitely the only company I've seen that can capture every element of an RPG and include it all in one exceptionally original game. I'm going to see if I can't play this on my PC, because I miss this game so much. :3

This song makes me think of getting lost and lost over and over in trodain Castle checking the spicked people to see if there were signs of hope. But there never was, until I saved them all.

And to think that this game was a "stand-in" for FFXII. My apologies but DQVIII beat the former on so many levels. The only thing that Final Fantasy had better was the graphics. The latter had a story based on prejudice, betrayal, and love--among other things. The music from beginning to end was awesome and the characters intriguing. Dhoulmagus to me is right up there with the likes of Sephiroth, Seymour, and Kefka. This track, I would love to be played at my funeral. I simply love it.

This piece can really stir nostalgia in you, which it's meant to do. Like if my life were an RPG complete with music, this would be playing if I visited my old grade school or the house I used to live in.

Marta's death was very sad when this music played. I really felt for Marek at this point when he was just completely broken and crying next to his mother's body.

@HardcoreHamster33 We listen to that because it's our method to cry, there will be no good rpg game, it's like the existing of video games will stop soon.I just wan't to get 6 years back to play the good acient games, my ps2 have broke this summer and I never stoped crying cuz i was playing this game, again and again, and i was happy.I was guessing there will be really good game in ps 3 at year 2005, better than this one But I was wrong.(sorry for my english, i'm french.)

And to think that this game was a "stand-in" for FFXII. My apologies but DQVIII beat the former on so many levels. The only thing that Final Fantasy had better was the graphics. The latter had a story based on prejudice, betrayal, and love--among other things. The music from beginning to end was awesome and the characters intriguing. Dhoulmagus to me is right up there with the likes of Sephiroth, Seymour, and Kefka. This track, I would love to be played at my funeral. I simply love it.

This piece can really stir nostalgia in you, which it's meant to do. Like if my life were an RPG complete with music, this would be playing if I visited my old grade school or the house I used to live in.

i got this game one day for 5 dollars at blockbusters almost 3 years ago,and i still haven't finished darksteel dragon :/

Honestly, most DS owners are little kids.. they can't appreciate the beautiful music, the amazing storyline, and the impact a game like this can leave on a person. DQ8 is the best game ever!!!

You can't listen to this song w/o attempting to hold back tears. Making to cursed Trodain made me stand in sheer amazement. Shameful the critics looked at this game as only a "standby" to Final Fantasy XII---a letdown if you asked me.

I usually like to refrain from speaking in absolutes, but I do not think it unrealistic to say that this might be the prettiest thing I've ever heard.
It's so beautiful and melodic, making you feel the fantastical nature of the game it's from. And yet it's almost painfully mournful, reflecting the environment it plays in. For some reason, it sends ripples of nostalgia and longing through me, for what, I don't know...
...Heh, so yeah, I like it.
