  • Got to say piano or keys with Irish tunes really suck!

  • This tune is O'Neills.I wouldn't even atempt to play it because it goes way up high. A real bugger of a tune. well done mate

  • @grizzlybear0 You are right ..it is a bit of a bugger!

  • did she sow the flange after all that...

  • that bird should call round and polish his flute.pronto.

  • Is this guy playing ni a MIRROR ????

He has switched hands and side of the flute?

he is using the left and of the lower side and the right hand in the upper side and BLOWING THE FLUTE FROM THE OTHER SIDE ???

I thought that it was a video mirroring but the text behind the piano player are correct..! ! ?? WHAT ???

  • @RDELAPLAZA He's a left handed player!

  • omg this is amazing! "The Contradiction" sounds pretty simple yet complicated at the same time when it was played on the violin. Job well done, Gary! sounds good enough for me....

    :)

  • a young girl at the carolin harp comp in nober 2010 played it inA and 1 it no bother to her !! i think it was U15 and she was from sligo WHATS WRONG WITH YOU GARY !!!!

  • @ceirarox To be fair to Gary this tune is difficult on a flute in any key and might be a bit easier had he chosen G for a simple system player.

Tunes with leaps are difficult for flute players ...such as :Hand me down the Tackle and Peter Street...you can easily have octave problems.

  • i hate dis guy!!!!

  • this tune is actually easy to learn once u listen to it over and over and over like i did before attempting it :P

  • yup :D anyone here go to meitheil? im going next year lol

  • fair play to him for being fit to play that tune!!

  • so i learned it on the fiddle lol

  • lol ive been playing for 9 years :P it didnt take me too long to learn it. just kept listening to it over and over. Because my flute isnt keyed so i hate doing the G sharp by half covering the hole.. etc. Plus the awful high notes lol. I also found it waaayy easier on the Banjo. i wont even attempt it on the accordion Lol

  • i learned it soon after my last comment (1 week ago) lol :)

  • @PatrickM1996 Have a listen to Celtic Woman also ...also get a good fingering chart.

  • just brilliant :D im attempting to learn it haaa

  • crazy flute player, I wouldn't mind being able to play like that

  • great!

  • Fair play till ye Gary great stuff

  • Well done gary, this same tune has caused me untold suffering and misery for 15 years now ,and i still can't play it .

  • He got us to 1st place in Clare and 1st place in Munster =] And got the U12 Céilí band,U12 grupa cheoil, and U15 Céilí band 1st in the All-Ireland =]

  • Second tune is "President Garfield's"

  • wellllllllll he is my teacher in school

one of the most crazy teachers in school

    all irish teachers are

it must run in our family

  • what a talent!!

  • How dare you say backwards, he is playing left handed!!!!

  • Nice sound, but what's with the backwards playing? He could save himself a lot of stress by playing a lot looser, with fingers a lot less motion, and his neck in not such a crook.

    Are all Irish flutes backwards?

  • Garry Shannon himself acknowledges that, being self taught he adapted a lot bad habits. But in the end, if it doesn't hurt and you achieve what you want, does it really matter?

  • most of us are backward in some respects, but not many can play a flute.

Looking forward to seeing how it should be done ! I found it breathtakingly enchantingly brilliant, made me laugh, and would make a fab. party sound anywhere in this God-forsaken world - just for the record. .

  • Gary is one of our best flute players. lets see what you can do!!

  • Brilliant....... best flute player I ever heard!!

  • brillant flute player, have first two albums need more of him on you tube, love to see him playing moning point.

  • this reel is awesome

  • Yer man taught my nieces the penny whistle and is the brother of Sharon and Mary, so I'm claiming fame by association.

  • Brilliant. It's not easy to play in A (in tune) on the flute. Well done.

  • Super muzyka .Super talent!!!

    Zapraszamy do Polski!!!

  • Super muzyka , super talent . Zapraszamy do Polski

  • He is my French teacher in school :D

  • This is my favorite of the reels I know!

  • this guy is my irish teacher in school!

  • My idol! The second tune is The President Garfield hornpipe, and not a reel. He plays these on one of his wonderful CDs: Punctured. Yes he is Sharon's brother.

    Brilliant, isn't it?

  • What sort of flute has he got there, cocus? An eight key with the bottom two missing, looks to me.

  • 2 months late - I'd say it is african blackwood and a regular 6-key, you hardly see 8-key-flutes around.

  • Gary Shannon--brother of Sharon? What is the name of the second reel? Matt Cunningham plays it as a hornpipe for the Newport Set.

  • Is this Sharon Shannon's brother? Great flute player.
