  • Hey, just saw that video again, and she´d had her locs for 8 yrs, and palm rolled most of that time except the last 6 months, when she started latching......So that explains a lot:)

  • This was the first video I saw on latching locks which inspired me to start getting interlocks or latched locks whichever you prefer to call them. I am glad I got em and saw this video.

  • Oh yeah, I also wanted to ask would latching be a better Idea than twisting?

  • Sista you are a lifesaver! You did a great demo and I tried it on a couple of my locs but I have two strand twists but the ones I did don't seem as loose so I THINK I'm doing them the right way..so thank you again! :-D

  • OMG!!! Thank you so much girl!! I started my locs about 3 months ago, and I've seen plenty of "how to do" latching videos with the latch hook tool, but it just felt awkward to do it in my own head. I've been agonizing over the last 6 weeks, trying to find a locktician to do it. This is the best ever way I've ever seen. It's so easy!! Thank you!! You just saved me sooo uch $money$!!!

  • @tamarazaria333...no, you wont be able to take them down...latching knots the hair.

  • @amiraaamon I thought I just saw here on youtube someone who rundid long latched locs.

  • Excellent vid!!! Thank you for making this! <3

  • YOU JUST HELPED ME AMIRAAAMON

I DECIDED TO STOP USING THE WAXES AND THE GELS ONLY BECAUSE I WANNA BE EVEN MORE NATURAL SO NOW IM GONNA USE THIS FINGER TECNIQUE BECAUSE MY HAIR IS GETTING THICK, I THINK THE NEW GROWTH IS STARTING TO LOCK BUT STILL IM GONNA TRY YOUR TECHNIQUE

    THANKS ;)

  • beautiful eyes

  • @antonette711 ...thank u

  • I've been reading that crocheting and latch hook is very damaging to locks, it looks really good for a while but putting the medal through your hair Slowly brakes off the Roots..

Now I had locks for ten years now, I was like you, i palm rolled for years, then i fingered it like using a latchhook, then the last few years i started using the latch hook tool.. Slowly seeing my locks thinner and alot of loose or broking short hair at the roots, now i'm going back the palmroll.

    seen any thinning?

  • @HealingHerbsByRene....i don't see any thinning...but i alternate mehods as well

  • @HealingHerbsByRene maybe you were latching too frequent? I'm latching every 2-3 months. Some people do it too often causing the hair to break.

  • what kind of locks do you have @ amiraaamon

  • this video is soo helpful!

i have like 2 inches of new growth...but not for long lol

  • YES i have found the way!!!!!!!!!thank you i been havin such a hard time keeping my locs...

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU FInally someone who helped me. I have very fine and soft hair and the twists would not loc! This helped me more than you know!

  • I have been having a problem with getting all my locs to loc and this video has helped me to not only understand what the beautican did, but to do it myself. I was about to give up. Thanks a great deal, you just don't know how much this video has helped me.

  • This is one of the best videos out there to show how easy latching is!!! Great video, very helpful. If anyone is interested in latching, they should check this out!!!

  • can u latch instead of retwisting?

  • Thanks that helps alot. I only do it to certain dreads that really need it and the others I palm roll.

  • I was doing this to my locs for 8 years!. I did not know what it was called. Or had ever seen it before. Thank you.

  • @Chloe3086. I think kyleismrsmiley was making an hones statement.

  • i love your ankh ring and your locs!

  • Thnks for sharing , the bobby pin is great for shorter locs !

  • I dont think any one should think all african americans have nice locs and white ppl have crappy locs. Its a difference in texture (nationality) that makes our hair look different. What one person thinks is crappy another person may love.

  • Thanxx 4 this vid. I needed an alternative option for latching . You're awesome.

  • This was AWESOME!!!! You just saved me a whole lot of money! Thanks!!!!! You rock!

  • Ok I started my hair by twist, not 2 stran twist but the reg twist. Now I latch it, the root of it is nice but the dread it self is frizzy. How do I get the dread itself to not be so frizzy???

How will my hai look of 2months of reg twist then 3 weeks of latching???

How often do I re-tighting my hair?

  • @GAslickmouf .....locs=frizz....the locs will always be somewhat frizzy....more so before they mature..

    i alternate methods...twisting and latching.

    i re-tighten as necessary.

  • IT DID HELP, THANK YOU! :o)

  • that's so clearly explained, thanks a lot!!!!

  • Thank you for the demo. Your hair is beautiful. How do you do the back of your hair. thanks again. It did help me.

  • @naemealah...i just feel around...i never use a mirror.

  • I love that ankh ring. Where did you get it?

  • You are so pretty. I cant even listen to what ur saying.. Nice locs!

  • thanx 4 tha vid also u have beautiful eye's.. ;)

  • Love this...no tools, no product, just natural and you are a good teacher!

  • Thank you for showing an easier way. My locks were not staying with palm rolling. I like this technique.

  • That was really easy! Thank you!

  • pretty locks and pretty sista..

I was actually doing that but didnt know it was called latching. it just make my locks look neater and tighter without the rolling and twisting..;)

  • When you latch your locs, do they stay tighter longer?

  • Thank you very much! The latch demo was great, as i have a problem with my re-growth not locking.

  • preety eyez

  • African Americans have such beautiful well maintained hair! No wonder a lot of white ppl have crappy locs, they don't know what they doing! Its settled, I'm gonna ask the black dude with locs in my class where he got em done tomorrow at college. :D I'm afraid to ask the nappy hippies. xD

  • @kyleismrsmiley: I hear what you're saying.. I do locks on all types.. And my meathod is actually different on straight hair. Regardless of hairtype, Stay away from wax and keep them clean :-)

  • I wish i knew about this before i cut my locks off.

By the way, you are a very beautiful person, such an amazing aura.

    peace :)

  • Sister, Thx for info, Im a brother that needed a solution I could do myself occasionally. Ya Locs are nice and those eyes are just beautiful...

  • Thank you sooooooooooo much...i needed this :-)

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Thnx 4 sharing this knowledge sista,,,Bless!

  • I HOPE MI LOCKS THCKIN OUT TO YOUR SIZE

  • Your video certainly did help help me. Thank you very much posting this. I now know what to do!

  • I didn't know that you could do this with your hair! It is much eaiser than swisting all of the time which will eventually begin to pull on your hair and thin it out. So much easier! Thanks

  • honestly, is your hair thinning at all at the roots? cuz when i did this for about 5 months i noticed it thinning..maybe just me, i guess ;/

  • mayb u were doin it 2 tight

  • thank you very much for this video. I didn't even know there was such a method and I've been putting off redoing my own locs for ages!!!! I'm not scared anymore!!! God Bless you!!!!

  • Perfect and simple demo thanx so much this is really going to help me , Peace Love and Locs ;)

  • This is the best video that have seen so far on latchhooking your locks.Thank you

  • I think I like the latching/ interlocking dreadlock technique. I like the look of your locks.

  • thanks for posting this awesome video!

  • not only is that responds rude but so unnecessary. Get a life!!!! Please purchase one if you must! palm rolling is far from the only way and my boyfriends mom is a professional loctician with a lot of clients adn she latches all of them and they also get nothign but compliments. I do to...Broken hair... You mean new groth adn loose hairs. I have never broken a single strand and mine does that... cause its growing genius!!!

  • why do you people persist on making comments. Your what we call trolls. People that say negative stuff for the sake of doing it. If you aint got nothing nice to say.... You know the rest, SHUT IT! dont watch and/ or comment if you feel her voice is unpleasign. Leave her vids alone and dont comment how about that. cause there are people who do liek her vids!

  • your eyes are really pretty

  • Oh...you explained it perfectly. I tried latch hooking for the first time and failed to go NSEW which caused a knot to form. Heeey thanks, lovely locs Queen!

  • Thank you!!! ;-)

  • thanks for the info

  • why do peple latch locs?

  • Hey do any one use mango and lime firm wax or vigorol bees wax?? if so tell mw how it worked out for you.

  • wax in general is bad for dreads. you can't fully wash it out. get something sticky and washable. i recommend buying an aloe plant and using that. :)

  • yur dreads cnt always stay locked at the root because the hair that jus grew wont be loc'd so u really wasting time but i may be mistaking thats jus wat i thank plz correct me if im wrong

  • Thank you for this video. Great information. May God bless you and keep you and give you peace. Your locks or Beautiful!!!!!!!

  • Seems like the finger method was easier because you don't have to thread it.

  • thx!

  • do u end up getting a y shape @ the root?

  • very clear and precious... 7/5

  • Im soo gonna try this on my hair instead of using those awful clips and those sticky jells.

  • Thanks...very helpful! And I even have the sound muted :)

  • this is a good vid...thanks for being so simple

  • this was really helpful...thx!

  • Latch or wat eva ya call dem, is no good child. this procees dont let ya dreads lock up at dem roots now!! leave dem dreads alone.. tis no fashion now. me proud of me NATURAL hair..

  • can u latch your hair when u starting of your dread like in the second month?

  • THANK YOU!!! This DID help a lot. I've been going crazy looking for the perfect latching tool. I've been using my fingers too, thinking I was doing it wrong. lol. Never thought of a bobby pin! Why it never came to mind, dunno. But, girl, you're God-sent. THANK YOU.

  • Would like to try this on my hair line - it appears to be growing faster than the rest of my hair.

    Thanks for the instruction.

  • Wow, this was really awesome. I'm newly latched so this was very informative. Instant subscribe.

  • wow my dreads were so bad i got so lazy and just stopped, and i never thought to try that. went i get mine done again im going to get them crocheted in and take better care of my locks. grt video

  • OMFG I LOVE YOU!!! THANKS A BUNDLE!!! and it indeed helped me. Gosh... wish i knew this 3 years ago.

  • Well i tried that a cuple of times but i can clearly see that my dreads are thinner than the they used to be.

  • Just stumbled across your video... I'm doing my research on starting locs :) YAY. This is very helpful information you're giving. I was thinking I'd have to buy that latch hook everyone is using LOL I like your method because you don't even have to make a "tool", Awesome vid!

  • Thanks! Been looking for something like this for ages!

  • Thank you this is very helpful!

  • very good video, instead of using my finger or bobby pin you can also use needle nose tweezers. it works wonderful on my hair.

  • Thanks!!! Merci beaucoup, ta video va beaucoup m'aider!!

  • Very very good job, the best I've seen so far - THANKS!

  • It does help, THANKS!

  • Wow I was wandering how I would have an inexpensive way of keeping my locks tight when I get some. Thank you for showing me I can do it. Very good information. I shall share this with my son.

  • thank you for that. your demonstration with the fingers was crystal clear. i loved it.

  • I agree..she did made crystal clear. :) I've seen other demonstrations that were more confusing....but this lady did great teaching us. :)

  • Interesting. I gotta keep that technique in mind.

  • Great video, I use this method to tighten my locs and it works great.

  • wow, a bobby pin! that was incredibly informative. so simple

  • Hi I love this instructional video on latching locs without a tool. This is the most descriptive and easy to understand for us visual learners. Thank you.

  • Ms you have been so helpful.I watch this video last night about a thousand times and then another thousand times to make sure I was doing it right and you will be so amazed how long my hair was when I got done using this method.I was free forming and had alot of untwisted new growth.l free formed because I got tired of paying so much money at the shop but now i know how to tightly twist it on my own. Thanks so much you been very helpful and on point.

  • for this method do u have to use products?

  • No!

  • Thank you so much for the info. I've been trying to find a clear and visual explanation and you certainly gave me one. I only just started my locs so I'm sure I'll be using your method shortly.

  • This is the best video I've seen. This is exactly what I needed to know! Thank you soo much!

  • thanks for this

  • thankyou, i have read this method of latching but to see how this is done has helped so much

  • that looks like alot of work! How long does it take?

  • Fantastic, you have really explained this technique well, I have to do this on my locks now to keep them neat and tidy at my scalp.

    Thanks

  • You are a LIFESAVER - been wanting to know how to finger latch and this is the best vid I've found - simple and to the point. Thanks so much!!

  • great vid thank u i needed to know that

  • great demo sistren!

  • im subscribing because of your eyes!

  • Never though to do it using a bobby pin. I just use a regular paper clip bent into a loop shape; but this still helped actually :)

  • this is the best video for latching THANKS !!!! even tho you don have a tool we can see clearly how to do it with or without the tool thanks sooooooo much!

  • Thanks! I never knew how this worked before!

  • Thanks so much, I latched one of my locs while you were doing yours and it worked out great!! I am gonna wash my hair and do my entire head tomorrow!!!:)

  • I find the latching look isn't as neat as the palm rolling method, but I here it locks faster. Can you do a combination of latching and palm rolling, or is that too much stress on the hair?

  • i think latching is for those individuals who like that ruff look.and they basically do the latching so the hair would loc and not mash all together. and palmrolling method is for those who like styling.

  • isnt she cute ? :) and its been very well explained! thanks

  • wow that's awesome, 5 stars, what kind of hair texture do u have? and how did u get ur locs started? :D thx

  • Awesome demonstration. Thanks a ton for posting.

  • thanks so much

  • Great demonstration... thanks so much.

  • Very good demo. I tried it and it works! Thanks for posting.

  • Awesome! Great how to video!

  • Thanks for the info..I've just started with a latch hook but i think I'm going to try it with a hair pin now

  • Wow! that was awesome! I don't even have to go through all that nonsense with doing it when my hair is wet, then waiting for it to dry. Thank you.

One question though, I've been palm rolling. If I switch to this finger latching method, will the new growth be thinner or more fragile?

  • Hi Mahogany: my boyfriend started with palmrolling and switched to latching. His locs are a little thinner at the roots when he first latches, then they "puff up" after a couple of shampoos. My locs were started with latching, and I experience the same thing. Hope this helps.

  • interesting. i'll be giving this a try over the weekend. thanks

  • INTERSTING

  • Cool. I never even thought to use a Bobby Pin, when I finger-latch my husband's locs. Thanx so much.

  • so basically this is the same as interlock, right? nice demonstration. outstanding locs!

  • Yup.

  • nice hair

  • I also would like to know, would this be a good method to use for baby locs when tighting the roots, or should I just twist it clockwise?

  • thanks for the vid, didn't know you could do that with locs.

  • Hi... just stopping through. Love your video and appreciate you passing on your knowledge! My hair is loc-ed as well I did mine myself and that was 7 years ago.

Thanks again my sistah, keep educating the world!

  • y? is this better then retwisting ? it looks like this takes 4 eva?

  • Not nec. better then retwisting, it just works better for my lifestyle.Once I did my whole head, which did take forever, touch-ups don't take as long. + I don't do my whole head at once, but if I did, I'd probably do it every 2-3 months vs every shampoo when retwisting, so it saves me time that way.(4-6x per yr vs every other week) I can work out without worrying about how my head looks. My hair always looks the same.Unlike when I was twisting, you could tell when I was due to twist again.

  • This is a really good demonstration. Well done. :)

  • that's cool as shit, heard of it but i've never seen it done!

  • i have dreads 4 inches and um can i still latch locs

  • I started latching my daughter's hair when she had only 1-2 inches, so yes.

  • Thanks! This video was very helpful! :O)

  • I'm putting out a shout out to everyone.. do you know of a loc specialist here in Sacto. CA ???

    Help...

  • Are you familiar with Dabur Vatika Amla oil?

  • No, can you send me some info?

  • Thanks... Do you still palm with product jel after locking for a smoother finish?

  • Sometimes...Like if I have an event to go to, I'll wash twist and plait it for a crinkle look. Also, once or twice a year I have it professionally palm rolled.

  • Thank u for saving me money and time.

  • It helped me.(esp. the bobby pin) Thank you.

    -Holiday (206)

  • It helped me.(esp. the boby pin) Thank you.

    -Holiday 206.

  • awesome!! I totally got it!

  • WOW .... i love you girl... i been going to the gym and sweating out my locs... i just tried doing one while watching you and it came out great thanks

    bless to you and yours

  • thank you i really thought that i would have to buy a tool thank you for showin me a diffrent way

  • Thanks a lot for the video...it looks simple now...

  • ...Great video...Does Latching work for baby locks?...I've had my locks for about 2 1/2 months, and have fine hair...thanks:-)

  • I never even knew about this process. I've always twisted my new growth. Your way looks fast and simple. Do you have any tips for thinning locks at the hairline? After I gave birth my locks had a mind of their own and my hairline's never been the same.

  • The same thing happened to me. I had a bald spot for the first year after I had my daughter. It eventually grew back but I had to combine some of my locs in the front.

  • ...Yes it did help!*smile* it looks easier than using a tool Thank you very much Im saving this here vid for reference

  • Thank you 4 the video- you made it very simple to do!

  • thanks for posting! very informative:]

  • great vid!

do you know if it's okay to do this with comb coils that are not fully locked yet?

  • ditto! i just got my locs started with comb coils (3 days ago) and am planning going for another appointment with the loctician before i self manage. this seems to be the best method with my lifestyle. in your opinion, when would it be okay for me to start? cheers.

  • you can start right after your appointment if you'd like! the biggest thing is just getting the courage to retwist yourself...that was the biggest thing for me. retwisting is very simple...and very easy to get salon results. take a look at my everything locs playlist for some h
