May I offer you some advice on how to give up drugs? Pardon me; I don't know much about drug addiction. But I'm guessing it has something to do with sadness. So this remedy will make you happy!

For every penny you would have spent on drugs to make you sick, send that penny instead to feed the victims of Africa's famine. So instead of using that money to make yourself sick, you'll be using it to make someone else healthy.

Healing others is the best way to heal ourselves!

Biggest evidence is that they were very courageous and "charitable" to share their experience so people in the same situation can relate. You said that you don't know much about drugs, keep it that way but don't think that charity work will stop the addiction. Its not as easy to cure it as the suggested solution you offered, (first hand experience)

I'm wondering if drug addiction can be cured at the root cause, once the symptoms have been treated through medicine, drug rehab., or whatever works.

Then the person recovering from drug addiction can have a strong support bridge, bringing happiness, to help prevent a relapse.

I think non-judgmental community support can help as well to maintain addiction recovery.

These people talk too much. THE OBVIOUS: Anyone can become addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. Addiction is progressive. If an addict-brain starts using again after having stopped, usage picks up where it left off and death is near. How to beat addiction: Stop using the substance, go through withdrawal, and attend classes on restructuring your life and living it clean and sober thereafter. Most addicts can't implement this process alone. Outside help is very important, nay mandatory.

I had a friend once. He was an addict and he sold his family's passports, their phones,the god damn tv... and then one day he got stabbed with a knife in his arm while going out of the building. Later right after he came out of the hospital he went to jail for drug possession. It's been 3 years now. Is it fucking worth it?

The visuals are subpar, and during the interviews with addicts it is unnecessary to overlay effects on the interviews. Just display them in a standard head-shoulders interview. If you want to get sober you have to "find something." The idea that you shouldn't "replace one addiction with another" is bullshit. You gotta replace one addiction with another. That's the only chance you got. Get into working out. Get into gardening. Get into playing golf. Get into playing guitar. Start bowling 2 hours every night. Get into AA to the point where you do it 2 or 3 hrs a day. We addicts tend to be compulsive people. Find something then hopefully as time goes on you'll mellow out.

I'm sorry to hear if anyone is struggling with drug addictions of any type. If you want help, and can't find help, or if the help you seek isn't helping you. Try what I have done. Accepted Jesus as Lord in your life. ask him to help you with your addiction, and make a vow to him that you will live for him. If you sincerely desire to stop your addiction then God will deliver you from that stronghold in your life.

Tough gig, giving up intravenous drugs.I am a recovered alcoholic. I also used recreational drugs intensely for 15 years. I was able to stop. It took awhile but I did it. I've also quit smoking cigarettes {pack a day for 18 years.} Quitting cigarettes is really hard. I worked as a Substance Abuse counselor for ten years in a program and on a detox. Did groups, etc. I'm not terribly "positive" about people "stopping" because my observations as a counselor were depressing. Wonder how I did?

3:56 WRONG! There are far more than 1 million Heroin addicts in the USA. If you count all "Opiate" addicts (Oxycontin, Morphine, Fentanyl, etc...) there are over 5 million Opiate addicts. In Baltimore conservative estimates say Heroin addicts alone are 10% of the city's population, not counting all the other Opiate drugs. San Francisco/Oakland California's population consists of about 7% to 12% HEROIN addicts! When you look at the USA as a whole there are several million Opiate Addicts!

i take better care of my dog better than i do myself. i am 29 and reasonably intelligent AND an addict. it has ruined my life in a lot of ways. the 12 step program is where i am at now. na offers a softer approach but i don't know what else to do the other 23.5 hrs in a day

@hotaussiegirl13 Work out. Replace one addiction with another. That is what I did. I became an endorphine addict. I'd ride the bicycle for an hour, lift weights for an hour and do 300 sit-ups. I started riding a roadbike. 200 miles a week. I started racing, reading about VO2 max and "pulse rate" and all that. When I first got sober I got into golf and would play 27 holes a day then practice for 2 hrs. I started playing basketball 3 hrs a day at one point. Worked for me. Find something.
