  • @NormanEdwardVail

^ That's why racism is so ugly. It attempts to tarnish everything with it's hatred. This is a beautiful song with beautiful images and that guy tried to spoil it. Luckily he wasn't successful.

  • OMG...i haven't heard this song in AGES!! :D

  • Really smart. Now those who don't know will get a cultural lesson.

  • Domo arigatou Sukiyaki---Kyu Sakamoto

    What happened to this group?

(I used to think the name of this song was "You Took Your Love Away From Me")

  • An absolutely beautiful song. I'm so glad they made this English language version of the early 60's Japanese pop classic. THANK YOU very much for posting it! You've MADE my day and my week! :-)

  • wo! I and Kyu Sakamoto san have the same birth day.

    Pray for him.

    Thank you

  • ever lasting song

  • can someone tell me who sings sunrise, it gose like this sunrise thank you for today there's no tommrow with out you

  • @ckeepitrealA group called Slick sang it. If you don't find it under their name then look up Brandi Wells.

    The groups name is Slick!

  • disord3r....you know not what you speak of.

  • A classic and superbly done. Five Starz.*****

  • no this song is called Sukiyaki and the band is A Taste of Honey, Sukiyaki is a great song, I like the original in Japanese and the cover done by 4P.M.

  • I LOVE the art work you used. Just make the song that much better! Thanks.

  • this is a wonderful song,in english or japanese, and you picked beautiful pictures to go along with the song! thank you for posting this.

  • BEAUTIFULLY SUNG !

  • what a lovely song. i love it. i think this sounds more pleasant than the original version, allthesame, derivaties are never as good as the original. anyways, mary j blige's "you are everything" is what introduced me to this song.

  • Nice pics man, preciate it. The bridge at the end is my favorite.

  • Always loved this tune

  • @clydejames1 Me too. It just poped into my head today. I couldn't remember the name of the song but remembered the words.

  • Only the joy of the Lord sustains me.

  • Its crazy, but I like this version and Kyu Sakamoto's version equally. If you listen to Sakamoto's 1963 song, it has a nice rock, bossa nova feel to it. This version uses more traditional Asian strings. Both of them are extremely effective!

  • La Di Da Di.

  • This almost sounds like Lynda Trang Dai, she did this number too, Too bad they had to change the words, but they couldn't translate the Japanese words into english and have the same sound..

  • I've been looking for this song for years! The only problem is I remember it a bit faster pace. I like what you did with the video. Beautiful song, but everytime I look this song up; no videos play for me.. Is there a reason for this? I believe it was in 1980something. Thanks for you time!

  • beautiful song. nice slide show. thank you

  • Beautiful, I've always loved this song.

  • so touching

  • One of My ALL TIME FAVORITES!!!

  • Thanx for posting, Luuuuuuvvvvvvvv this song !

  • Hit #1 soul and AC, #3 pop in Billboard. Too bad Janice's lyrics didn't get credited. God bless!

  • love it

  • I like this song, I was a baby when it was a successful

  • 押田美和...

  • Almost forgot about this beautiful song. So great. Thanks

  • CUS YOU TOOK YOUR DOPE AWAY FROM ME

  • I love this song!!! its such a sad song =\

  • I love a Taste of Honey

  • Damn Id get back with her. ina heartbeat

  • The original song sang by the late. great , singer Kyu Sakamoto was a mixture of Japanese and American music .I love both versions this one and the original..

  • Big tune

  • It's not a harp. The instrument you are hearing is a japanese instrument called a "Koto"

  • I'm not sure which sounds sweeter to me, her vocals or the harp.

    Perhaps it's a tie.

  • Such a beautiful song!!! Truly PRICELESS!

  • I would never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever Ever Ever EVER EVER EVER take my luv away from a girl who could sing like this... Damn!! am in tears man

  • So mellow, nice.

  • i havent heard this song in years my father used to play this on an album! love this song

  • didnt someone sample this version of Sukiyaki, and made it into like a rap song or something like that?

  • @Tricksterknight yeaah slick rick did on La di Da di .

  • Splendid images and unforgettable music!!!!! Perla.

  • Slick Rick used these Lyrics!!!

  • You'd never guess this is the same group that sang "Boogie Oogie Oogie"

  • @TheBollywoodBoy I don't beleive that it is. There was indeed a group called A Taste of Honey, but this is not that group. This is a song entitled A Taste of Honey, and is a "standard". It's been covered by many groups through time, although I'm not sure if A Taste of Honey has ever covered their namesake.

  • @disord3r This is the same group. "A Taste Of Honey" was formed in 1971. The group members were Janice Marie Johnson, Carlita Dorhan, Perry Kibble, Donald Ray Johnson. In 1978 their hit "Boogie Oogie Oogie" went to number #1 in Pop, R&B, Club Play, and Disco

Singles charts, and in 1981 "Sukiyaki" went to #3 in Pop charts, and #1 in R&B charts. I got the album "Twice As Sweet," this song came off of so I should know.

  • @FrankeyHoboken Your facts are right.

  • @disord3r sry but u r wrong. The groups name is "A Taste of Honey" and the name of the song is called "Sukiyaki". It is the first English version of the original Song done by and Japanese artist named Kyu Sakamoto who has passed .

The song is beautiful no matter which language.

  • Beautiful imagery.

  • Such a sweet vocal - Makes you wonder what could have driven her man away from her - Unless there's something she's not telling us !

  • holy crap this girls voice is excellent, lovely translation, probably the best english cover.

  • translation from what?

  • This is a japanese song and it became popular in western countries ages ago, naturally people starting singing it english, this is one of the covers.

look up Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto for the original

  • Wow. Interesting, thanks.

  • wow what a sweet love song how niiice!!!

  • i like the joey fatone version

  • It doesn't get any smoother than this

  • Hey, u found the song I was talkin about!

  • la-di-da-di

  • Id like to think, that If played loud enough, this song would effectively quell an otherwise unruly crowd.

  • Hi thanks for updating this peaceful and classical music

  • I remember this song and A Taste of Honey. They were so talented and beautiful. I remember when they won their Grammy for Best New Artist for Boogie Oogie Oogie, while they were performing on stage it was reported that their jewelrey stolen from the dressing room. This song is so beautiful and haunting. It still sounds good today. Thanks for the post and the memories.

  • What catches my attention more than any other instrument, is the harp. I think?

  • Love that guitar paired with her silky voice

  • @TheWarpedVinyl actually it's a Koto being played, it's essentially a Japanese harp

  • @TheWarpedVinyl actually, that is the beautiful string instrument Japanese call Kodo or Koto, the Koreans call Kayagum & the Chinese call Go-jin. this one was the first song in which I heard that splendid instrument.

  • Shivers down my spine.....if I was only there with her......thank you!!

  • I really love the English lyrics to this and the arrangement...beautiful voice as well. I have hunted for this so long and thank goodness I have found it.l THANK YOU!!

  • can somebody please send me this song please

  • ima sample this song and it's gonna sound good over my beat lol

  • la di da di

  • my favorite song and lovely pics

  • Nice vinyl rip; it reminds me of mine, except cleaner. This is such a beautiful song.

  • lodi dodi we like to party!

  • soothing song

  • omg i love this song i just did't know the name of the song thanks 4 posting this song

  • this song has such a beautiful melody! :)

  • slick rick!

  • great song

  • Was glad i found this song.... I use to hear it while driving in my car on the radio. I love hearing it, you didn't get to hear it often.

Women love this song, as their is always someone you can think of that has taken their love away from you...and at the end of the song you get to say goodbye.....

  • so touching

  • Uhh... Not that I'm disagreeing, but I heard that the English version was written by the lead singer of A Taste of Honey, but to avoid claiming rights and crap she sold it to not Kyu Sakamoto, but some other Japanese person (I forget who; maybe that Ei guy?) so she could put out the song. The original Sakamoto song was about a man about to be executed. It had nothing to do with a broken heart; as you said this is NOT a literal translation. It may be wrong, but that's what I heard.

    Smile! :)

  • this version is original lyrics that were inspired from the japanese version the lyrics didn't fully translate so that the song flowed properly the original lyrics where "i walk with my face up high"

  • Ei was the songwriter.

  • this song is actually a very ancient japanese song...

  • ummm... as far as i know... it's not ancient. Old, like maybe 50-60 years, but not ancient.

  • @TYV29 I heard something like that when I was 13 too!

  • oh my god, the pics are soo beautiful!!

    I LOVE it!

    Thank you!! =D

  • dis is a very beautifal song

  • I liked this group, especially Boogie Oogie Oogie, but this one was a great one as well. Thanks for the post.

  • I like this version and I really like the pictures that go with it they seem to give it a nice touch.

  • This song is so awesome!

  • A very big hit in spring of 1980. After going to Japan, I really appreciate the beauty of the melody. If you ever have a chance to stay in an onse (Japanese outdoor hot spring), you will REALLY appreciate this even more. I had the wonderful pleasure of going to the best one in Ureshino and they really treat visitors like royalty. Expensive but it's a taste of a little bit of heaven on earth. Wonderful country and wonderful people there.

  • i haven't heard this song in over 10 years, what a great trip down memory lane!

  • Bone Thugs - Bless Tha 40oz

  • WONDERFUL!!!

  • oooooooooh take me way on back!

  • There's sadness in this song that brings back a beautiful memory of this Japanese boy who I fell for when I lived in Seattle. We had this amazing chemistry and eye contact. I remember him nuzzling by my side as we walked in the cold the evening we met.

I wanted to contact him, but the mutual friend who introduced us wouldn't give me his email.

When he left with the group at evening's end, I remember he turned around and looked back at me. Keep hope alive.

  • Wow... It's easy to forget just HOW NICE "Taste of Honey" is and how many nice tracks they have.

After listening to all the crappy, new songs that lack the fundamentals of real music this is an absolutely refreshing break from the mindless droning of brain dead, slack jaw troglodytes.

THANK YOU TASTE OF HONEY and FrankeyHoboken

  • I love this song... I like this video, very cute!!!

  • my country japan

    my favorite country

  • Because this is their version of an earlier Japanese song, released in the early sixties. This is much better. The original was in Japanese {making it incomprehensible to most Americans} & the vocals weren't nearly as good.

  • my favorite song....

  • Although most people know this band of boogie oogie fame this is a true classic.

  • a classic.

  • agreed.

  • she is so sexy

  • Scratch that, Janice practically rewrote the song in her own version. That's TALENT! :)

  • HAHAHA

    those pictures are absurd

  • Hmm, does anyone know why this group made a song with oriental sounds, and a Japanese name? THe band is American right? I don't think I have ever heard another song like this, here in the Western World...this is so original, and timeless. Her voice even sounds anguished as she sings, it sounds like she could burst into tears. Amazing and so lovely.

  • I heard that Janice Marie Johnson (the singer of this song) heard the original on the radio and figure it be covered albeit its American translation. Who knew the original song was depressing? LOL Great cover too. :)

  • In 1963 this song was a #1 hit in the US. I believe it was the first foreign language song to hit #1 in US history. It has been rerecorded several times in several different languages. I have at least 2 Spanish language versions and a german version as well as the original by Kyu Sakomoto and this version and the later English version by 4PM Dawn. I really like them all (except maybe the German one). I do have very fond memories of slow dancing to this version in the early 1980s.

  • Old post I know, but it's not 4PM Dawn, it's either 4PM (For Positive Music) OR PM Dawn, 2 totally different groups.
