Yes, Jobs took more credit than was due, but you have to know that was his nature, and Woz's nature allowed him to not care. Also, Steve didn't leave the company for NeXT, he was fired and forced to start something new, which was the creation of NeXT. After NeXT began to fail as did Apple, eventually he got involved in Pixar, and from there he was back on at Apple.

However, Steve DID leave Apple for NeXT which was solely his creation which crashed and burned. You are right that he did go to Pixar next and back to Apple AFTER Apple BOUGHT OUT NeXT. Steve Wozniak left Apple himself, feeling he could not do his creative new projects at Apple and founded CL 9 and more companies, and wrote his bio in 2006. It was never his intention to be CEO of anything that big, he just wanted to create hardware and software and he was happy with that.
