Do you do one string at a time? Do you do one and then leave it in tune and then do another string? or do you do one and then make the others slack and then move on to the next one.
so i just got a schecter hellraiser c-1 fr, and the trem is a little tight when i go to do dive bombs. if i just removed the middle spring in the back, would that solve the problem? i'm a noob to floyd's, so please help.
Ya know dude if you turn your guitar the other way you can lower them if they're too high and raise them if they're too low. That would make a lot more sense.
Easy way to remember which way to move the saddle without turning guitar upside down. If the fretted note is sharp then make the string longer by moving saddle back. If fretted note is flat make the string shorter by moving the saddle forward.
what would you recommend i do if... My G string is sharp and i have moved it all the way back and its still sharp. but there is no more space to move the saddle back. So its stuck sharp... What would you suggest i do? its really pissing me off that fking g string
@viperabs tuning the screen completely flaccid? you mean when its still sloppy get it to a desired note and intonate from there? then after intonation bring it back up to pitch?
my Peavey's bridge (its a '96 predator) dont do jack squat when i mess with the saddles, i can intonate a TOM almost perfect (darn you G string!) yet trems i'm hopeless with. I'm buying a new bridge for this thing anyway, its a POS
ok i have a noob question i just got a guitar today form the pawn shop and it has a gotoh tremolo and i can dive bomb with it but i cant do a pitch raise do some whammy bars only do a dive bomb action???
hey dude, i tried to intonate my guitar with a floyd rose today. i play in drop c tuning and the low C string was just a bit to high in the 12th fret. so i adjusted the bridgepiece towards the floyd rose. but now i tuned my guitar again and it's even worse than before. i put the bridgepiece as far as possible but it's still worse than before, how is this possible? i mean its about 40 cent off the note. what can i do? i'm already in the 2nd screwhole and there are just 2. please help!
@Heineken1712 That's very odd, but are you intonating after you tune the string down and then tuning it back up after all is locked down? You may want to put a piece of tape to make a mark where the saddle is so that when you move it you can reference where to move it to. The second position and the first position screw holes can achieve the same position if the fork is slid correctly. You must pay attention to this.
i have a question man , the g-string on my ibanez guitar wont inotate properly its in tune on the open g but on the 12th and 24th fret in sharpe then the open g , ive tired moving the screws both way on the saddle and it still makes no difference , can you play help me
@pault0070 Unfortunately the g-string never really intonates correctly because floyd roses do not address the compensated nut necessity. Look up "compensated nut" and you will be able to read about what I mean. The g string just doesn't sit in a position that can be played close to the nut and be in tune while also maintaining perfect tune up the neck.
@viperabs I have a problem. My guitar is intonated, but the octave some of the strings seems to be out of tune. Let's say I play an E on the B string on the 5th fret, and play the E at the B string on the 15th fret, it isn't equal. The octave seems to be a little bit flat. What should I do? Would love an answer from you or from anyone else! (I have a PRS Custom 24 with tremolo)
@viperabs I watched it again but didn't find anything. Let me explain the problem a bit more detailed. My guitar IS intonated. The harmonic at the 12th fret is all equal to the note at the 12th fret. But, when I example play at the 5th fret on the B string, it isnt in the same pitch when I play it an octave higher on the same string at the 15th fret. It is a little bit flat. If it really is in the video, please tell me! :D
hey bro .. can u help me .. after i intonate and tune the guitar ... it goes way out of tune when i lock down the locking nut ... is that suppose to happen ?!?!?
Hi I have a problem. I just bought a new All parts Schaller Floyd rose and a 24 fret neck for my Jackson professional v. It originally came with a 22 fret neck, but I like 24. Anyway, the neck does not have a fretboard extension. The neck itself is longer (as 24 fret necks usually are unless made by Ibanez). And my trem only has 2 holes, not three. Should I take it in to a pro, or is there a way to fix it myself?
@AJD7792 I don't see the problem with this. They might have designed the 24 fret neck to be extended with 2 frets on the nut end of the neck instead of the pickup end. You follow? I wouldn't worry about the trem unless it creates a problem in adjustments.
@viperabs hey man i like your videos there really helpful. I got a dean razorback with a floyd rose and i got the brige floating like it should be level with the body and all however i cant get it to stay in tune. Im puttin daddario 11-49 on it cus im trying to tune down 1 1/4 step so i can play with the pantera cd cus thats how dime tuned his guitar. Ive done tryed intonateing the bridge and i just keep haveing problems with it not wonting to stay in tune and i cant figure out why can u help
One thing that tripped me up on intonation was that you need to retune the open string after you move the string's saddle before checking the 12th string tuning again. So its tune the open string, check 12th fret tuning, move saddle, tune the open string, check 12th fret tuning, and repeat till the 12th fret is in tune. And the amount that you need to move the saddle can be significant...
thanks for being technical, a lot of videos just say to "crank on this" and "adjust that" without any technical knowledge like the exponential spacing of the frets. great video and keep up the good work!
@darren0512341 well there is more than one ec 1000 and there are variations on the woods used and the pickups and that is what is gonna give the tone so let me know which one your talkin about and i can help you better but aside from that im suprised you are deciding between a single cut style guitar and a double cut style guitar
@viperabs You can check it anywhere, It will just be a tone down from the open note but it should still be perfectly in tune. You could use the 19th fret if you wanted to lol
could u plz tell me which has better tone and sustain - 1)tremolo or fixed bridge.

How about a Kahler fulcrum where there are two small screws that poise the height of the saddle for each string? I felt I wasn't going to mess with that and let a guitar shop tune things. They can check of the truss rod is also set right and if the nut has wear and tear, or the frets perhaps, need "redress" <-cool, eh?
im working with an edgeIII. my high e string is sharp at the 12th sharp at the 5th flat a tthe 24th and flat at the 17th. what do I do?! also all the other strings are fine
-only do the low dive bombs and not the high. I figure I gotta adjust the bridge or springs from the back of the guitar but being my first I didn't want to make a noob mistake and break it (even though it's under warranty). Your instructions are sweet and simple and I hope i'll be able to use this.
Wooh! You are a God send. I just got a new guitar with a lock system, fine tuning system and floyd rose trem, it'll be my first and I didn't know squat about how to fix it. One I didn't know i was supposed to loosen the locks when I was trying to tune it. I tune my guitar down to Drop C. Two, once I did get it tuned down i tested out each fret on each string and found some didn't make any sound at all. Just like a dull mute, so I used the two wholes and raised the bridge a bit. but then i could-
great vid,im setting up my seven string Ibanez and my low b is sharp.now i know what to do thanks to you.I also blocked the floyd to become a fixed bridge, old trick i learend back in the 80's
I have a pacifica, and my high e is flat. Ive tried moving the saddle closer and closer to the point where it came off the screw. What the heck is the problem?
I really actually think that they started the whole harmonic tuning gimic so that shops could make a lot more money on people, intonating their guitars. Especially people that spend over a grand for their instrument. It's as easy as checking a fuse on a car and replacing it, you'd be surprised how many people are too lazy to do that too, i worked in car audio and people get charged 35 bux for being too dumb to replace a fuse
like i mentioned and like he describes rather than by harmonic which is more confusing
and tricky and not even neccesary, though possible. check out my guitar build(s) and rebuild by googling "Woodstock Symmetrical Strat" whic is on an Ibanez thread and talks about my projects. I'm a newly discovered builder and love building guitars.
Hey, I got a problem. I've intonated the guitar so that every string is in balance between open string and 12th fret, but lets take the A string as an example. When I play it open, it's a perfect A, but when I play the 3rd fret it's a sharp C. the D is olmost perfect and the 12th fret is perfect. Get my problem? Please help me!
@wannabeeguitarproo the guitar is not a perfectly designed instrument, unfortunately, and the angle created by the string when you use the first few frets of a guitar causes a minor mis-pitched notes. Look up "compensated guitar nut" to see what I mean.
@viperabs What the hell? It's a gibson les paul 60's 2004 model, cherry sunburst. Costed me about 2225$ (orifinal price about 4500$.) Shouldn't I be able to expect that it's at least perfectly tuned?!? ergh..... Thanks annyway for the help...
@viperabs I have been using a crappy, inacurate tuner, So I'll get a good one and intonate the guitar again. But if it's still wrong, and in a worst case scenario, I'll have to change the nut right? Once again thanks for the help, and by the way guitars are really expensive here in norway, so i'm guessing the guitar has a total value of 2200 - 3000 $ :)
@wannabeeguitarproo Changing the nut may fix your problem, but there are a few other factors that can affect it other than the nut itself. Height of nut, depth of cuts, string thicknesses, how hard you play, how even the frets are, etc etc.
@viperabs Okey, but it was the tuners fault :D Thanks a lot, I appreciate it man. It's great that there is people out there who bothers to help others :D
I noticed that my guitar was always sharp on the higher frets and I didn't know why. I thought my guitar was poorly crafted, but I did this and now it's A-OK. Thanks, great explanation and nice guitar.
hey, im having an intonation problem with my ltd kh-202 floyd rose guitar, i think im gonna be posting a video showing what the problem is. do you mind go check it out later when i uploaded it so you can give me some tips? thx
That depends: some of those models came with speedloader setups, and I can't give you really a tutorial on setting those up. Otherwise if its a normal tremolo, then yes.
excellent video dude. Everyone should watch this video if they own a guitar lol. my question actually for the video about your floating trem balance walk-through. At the back of the guitar, in the trem unit cavity, the two screws that hold the springs in place, is it good practice to have them equal distance? For example, one screw tighter then the other.
Seems like it's going take an eternity to intonate a floating trem... If you have to loosen the strings a little, isn't it going to take for damn ever to get it right, since you have to keep tuning them to get it to float properly again?
Yes, it will. Nobody ever said Mr. Rose was a genius at guitar design. After all, why the hell do you put a knife edge against a dulling surface that will be under heavy load and continuous use?
No trem at all, actually. If you can't grasp the concept of how a tremolo works and how do adjust it OR if you aren't willing to put the time into setting it up, then don't bother getting one. A strat-style trem only disallows for the trem to sink into the body. It doesn't prevent it from coming out of the body (for instance if you tune down or use lighter strings).
I have another ? for ya. I finally got my Omen-6 in tune, but, my action is gettin pretty high. I know that this has something to do with the truss rod in the neck, along with the telscopic bridge, but, i don't wanna mess things up. any input before I take it in to a dealer?
When I try to intonate my Low E string (6 th string), when I press the 12 fret, it's on "E", but when I press down the 22 fret, it say "D", is my intonation wrong?
Awesome video! Question: what tuner(s) do you suggest for accurately and reliably intonating an electric guitar? How does one go about intonating an acoustic guitar when the bridge does not have adjustable saddles? Do you just need to find a string gauge that will match your acoustic guitar to try and get decent intonation?
Tuners like pitch tuners or like tuning pegs? I'm assuming you mean pitch tuners: which just about any will do. I personally have a Sabine rackmount model and a Sabine clip on tuner. The more expensive, the less tolerance it probably has. You can read the info on them before you buy and it will say the tolerance. There really isn't room to intonate acoustics unless they have a bridge that sits on the body. I'm with you on the string gauge idea.
Man, you have no ideia!! I thought my guitar was broken or damaged and now I just realize the intonation was all messed up!! Thanks a lot dude!! You're the best.
when dealing with a tremolo, should you tune then lock it up then intonate it? or just tune, leave it unlocked, intonate, then lock?

I really actually think that they started the whole harmonic tuning gimic so that shops could make a lot more money on people, intonating their guitars. Especially people that spend over a grand for their instrument. It's as easy as checking a fuse on a car and replacing it, you'd be surprised how many people are too lazy to do that too, i worked in car audio and people get charged 35 bux for being too dumb to replace a fuse
redlinerl480 1 year ago
i would advise to do it
like i mentioned and like he describes rather than by harmonic which is more confusing
and tricky and not even neccesary, though possible. check out my guitar build(s) and rebuild by googling "Woodstock Symmetrical Strat" whic is on an Ibanez thread and talks about my projects. I'm a newly discovered builder and love building guitars.
redlinerl480 1 year ago
I just rebuilt my Ibanez guitar, converted from tremolo float bridge
to tunomatic fixed bridge gibson style, when i went to intonate it for the first time
in my life the other day, i did it the same way as you describe. just tuned it perfectly
open string then checked the twelfth note for each string. it worked perfect.
i don't know why people say you need to do it by harmonic

Hey, I got a problem. I've intonated the guitar so that every string is in balance between open string and 12th fret, but lets take the A string as an example. When I play it open, it's a perfect A, but when I play the 3rd fret it's a sharp C. the D is olmost perfect and the 12th fret is perfect. Get my problem? Please help me!
wannabeeguitarproo 1 year ago
@wannabeeguitarproo the guitar is not a perfectly designed instrument, unfortunately, and the angle created by the string when you use the first few frets of a guitar causes a minor mis-pitched notes. Look up "compensated guitar nut" to see what I mean.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs What the hell? It's a gibson les paul 60's 2004 model, cherry sunburst. Costed me about 2225$ (orifinal price about 4500$.) Shouldn't I be able to expect that it's at least perfectly tuned?!? ergh..... Thanks annyway for the help...
wannabeeguitarproo 1 year ago
@viperabs I have been using a crappy, inacurate tuner, So I'll get a good one and intonate the guitar again. But if it's still wrong, and in a worst case scenario, I'll have to change the nut right? Once again thanks for the help, and by the way guitars are really expensive here in norway, so i'm guessing the guitar has a total value of 2200 - 3000 $ :)
wannabeeguitarproo 1 year ago
@wannabeeguitarproo Changing the nut may fix your problem, but there are a few other factors that can affect it other than the nut itself. Height of nut, depth of cuts, string thicknesses, how hard you play, how even the frets are, etc etc.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs Okey, but it was the tuners fault :D Thanks a lot, I appreciate it man. It's great that there is people out there who bothers to help others :D

@wannabeeguitarproo
in addition to what viperabs said, perfect pitch depends on how well ur frets are dressed..

at 4:44 Armond, instead of going through the trouble of detuning the guitar w/ a floyd, can't you just dip the bar to get to the pegs at the saddle.
aerofr33k 1 year ago
@aerofr33k Yes, however it will still be very difficult to hold the bar in a dive position while intonating.

@viperabs
o ok, thanks

I noticed that my guitar was always sharp on the higher frets and I didn't know why. I thought my guitar was poorly crafted, but I did this and now it's A-OK. Thanks, great explanation and nice guitar.

I have another video called "How to Balance and Float your Electric Guitar Tremolo by Armand" that tells you how to balance the bridge.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs i already watched it. i just want to know the best way to do it with what i have
jonnyboulanger 1 year ago
Its universal.
viperabs 1 year ago
good video i never knew i had to do that...see i dont know much about this but do u recomend the same techinque for a B.C. Rich Beast?
luckylucka77 1 year ago
That depends: some of those models came with speedloader setups, and I can't give you really a tutorial on setting those up. Otherwise if its a normal tremolo, then yes.
viperabs 1 year ago
and thats why kahlers rule and floyds kinda suck boys n girls ;)

intondation is when you get your tune-o-matic and your floyd-rose bridges and let them marinate in WTFROFLCOPTERBBQ sauce over night.

Z0ul0u 2 years ago
excellent video dude. Everyone should watch this video if they own a guitar lol. my question actually for the video about your floating trem balance walk-through. At the back of the guitar, in the trem unit cavity, the two screws that hold the springs in place, is it good practice to have them equal distance? For example, one screw tighter then the other.
shaynetrain1234 2 years ago
Ideally they SHOULD be equal distance. Thanks for checking my vids out!
viperabs 2 years ago
Seems like it's going take an eternity to intonate a floating trem... If you have to loosen the strings a little, isn't it going to take for damn ever to get it right, since you have to keep tuning them to get it to float properly again?
HaySupYo 2 years ago
Yes, it will. Nobody ever said Mr. Rose was a genius at guitar design. After all, why the hell do you put a knife edge against a dulling surface that will be under heavy load and continuous use?
viperabs 2 years ago
Thank you, man, there's no guitar technicianin my town, so you saved my ass. :D :D
cezudas 2 years ago
Which is less of a headache for a beginner: fixed or floating trem? I'd like to possible use drop tuning every now and then.
CleverDjembe 2 years ago
No trem at all, actually. If you can't grasp the concept of how a tremolo works and how do adjust it OR if you aren't willing to put the time into setting it up, then don't bother getting one. A strat-style trem only disallows for the trem to sink into the body. It doesn't prevent it from coming out of the body (for instance if you tune down or use lighter strings).
viperabs 2 years ago
I have another ? for ya. I finally got my Omen-6 in tune, but, my action is gettin pretty high. I know that this has something to do with the truss rod in the neck, along with the telscopic bridge, but, i don't wanna mess things up. any input before I take it in to a dealer?
KooK3 2 years ago
If its high action for the frets closer to the bridge, then lower the bridge. If that isn't the case, message me up.
viperabs 2 years ago
You make this sound soooo much easier than the music guys behind the counter do! I love it! TY
KooK3 2 years ago
Its because I don't want your money!
viperabs 2 years ago
Thank you man, you really rock
I have one question though:
When I try to intonate my Low E string (6 th string), when I press the 12 fret, it's on "E", but when I press down the 22 fret, it say "D", is my intonation wrong?
metallicaforlifeee 2 years ago
Its 24th fret, not 22nd. Count the frets as notes, the 22nd SHOULD be a D.
viperabs 2 years ago
Heyy which guitar is the red one???
its soo nice
CRESPUCIO12345 2 years ago
Awesome video! Question: what tuner(s) do you suggest for accurately and reliably intonating an electric guitar? How does one go about intonating an acoustic guitar when the bridge does not have adjustable saddles? Do you just need to find a string gauge that will match your acoustic guitar to try and get decent intonation?
Thanks a lot Armand!
specialkswizzle 2 years ago
Tuners like pitch tuners or like tuning pegs? I'm assuming you mean pitch tuners: which just about any will do. I personally have a Sabine rackmount model and a Sabine clip on tuner. The more expensive, the less tolerance it probably has. You can read the info on them before you buy and it will say the tolerance. There really isn't room to intonate acoustics unless they have a bridge that sits on the body. I'm with you on the string gauge idea.
