  • This was a thoroughly enjoyable video. I was lucky enough to visit Harris and Lewis when I was employed as a land surveyor. I stayed at a lovely guest house in Tarbert owned by Flora Morrison who`s hospitality was second to none. Thanks for posting this. Cheers.

  • I really enjoyed this. Its been a few years since I have been to Lewis. It brought a little tear to my eye as although from London I have strong connections to Lewis and on my many trips to visit have always felt sad when leaving on the ferry or plane. Thanks. It was lovely.

  • excellent video

  • My moms ancestors the Morrison's are from Lewis they came to America in the 1740's. Thank you so much for this, it's like going home after all these years!!

  • @Bigborewoods

Glad you enjoyed the clip - my grandfather was also a Morrison - he was born at Ness on the northwast coast of the island

  • @Bigborewoods My website on my profile has lots of photos of Dun Eistean at Ness in Lewis, where the Morrisons used to be based, its an archaeological site but open to the public and connected by a bridge to the mainland.

  • Looking forward to our fifth visit to Lewis in the summer, beautiful place.

I came across a beautiful old sideshow on youtube about Lewis "Tuigainn Leum - Donald Macrae - Gaidhlig Superstar " , worth having a look at.

Nice video thank you for posting.

  • some day I'll get there :S

  • thanks for that, are you going to the mod next year?

  • Absolutely excellent video

  • We have just come back from our 4th visit to the wonderful Isle of Lewis.

Will go back next year def and we love the 720miles (takes us 18hrs) to get here.

Love your accent and lovely video, thanks for posting this.

  • Brought back memories. I did almost exactly the same trip as this one. Only difference, I sailed from Ullapool to Stornoway first and then visited all the attractions. Definately going to watch many more of your videos.

  • I love Lewis - the Blackhouse village was good value and a great place to stay - I even got a christmas card from them. lovely people - lovely place.

  • @racampbell6 I'm so excited to find this. My GGG grandfather John McLeod came from the village of Gearrannan. He was born in 1815. How wonderful to see this.

  • @noneil100 I am delighted that this meant as much to you as it does to me - my mother was born on Lewis - I love the island and I love the people - I just can't get up there often enough. I am glad you enjoyed the Gearrannan clip.

  • @racampbell I neglected to tell you that he left the Isle of Lewis as a young man and came to the Pacific Northwest where he worked as the head sheepherder for the Hudson's Bay Company and lived his life in Washington State. He married an Indian princess and has many descendants here now. He tried to go back once but was robbed of all of his money and never got back to Scotland but corresonded with his family there.

  • Such a beautiful trip - Many thanks for sharing this

  • Glad you enjoyed it Paul.

  • Andy, thoroughly enjoyed your video of the Lewis trip. We were a wee bit luckier than you and were able to camp under good weather at Uig before catching the first ferry in the morning to tarbert. The blackhouses look fantastic and after showing the wife your video I think we have the seed planted for a future holiday, she has family in Stornoway too, it would be a good visit.

Keep up the good work, I'm away to watch some more of your clips :-)

  • Cheers!

The people who manage the Blackhouse village were very helpful - I even got a Christmas card from them this year.

I found it very cheap for three nights.

whereabouts was the place you took the first photos on Harris - thats the kind of shots I like taking

  • Am away to look at the harris slideshow now so i can answer that one :-)

  • Andy,

The first pics in the Harris DXPedition slideshow are from Two Waters Lodge, in the Liceasto area of Harris, not that far from Tarbert.

    AlanC.

  • I am a sucker for that kind of scenery and end up using twice as much tape as I should.

  • That's the beauty of the digital age, running costs are nil... Shoot as much as you want, bin what you don't need and reuse the media. I love it!

  • I never re-use a tape - I file them all. What film do you use on the Canon - I used to have drop-outs on the standard Sony tapes, but I find the Sony HD tape very good quality.

  • Oh right, I suppose I'm a scrooge then :-))) I prefer to store the media electronically and reuse the tapes, saves money that way.

With the Canon XHA1 I have been using Pro HD Tapes at 23 quid a pop, if I was paying I would be using something cheeper to be honest :-)

But I'm not, which reminds me I'll need to get an order in for a 5 pack when I get back to work, we'll be needing them.
