  • i like the "easy" windows,and i love linux.. so i delete w7.

  • All PC have their problems no Os is perfect. I just wish everybody decided to boycot the drms then most of computing would be free. saying that, I don't think everything should be free. by free I mean free of Drms. if the software good, I am willing to pay for it especially if its open sources. when its all said and done, I like all three OS for what its worth.

  • I understand that Microsoft has the most drivers and stuff because most people use it. Mac builds its own computers so for the most part drivers are not an issue on a Mac. Windows is a good Os, but they treat their customers like pirates. In my opinion, the only way to improve Microsoft is for everybody to boycot them till they treat us like paying customers. I choose Linux for Freedom of use. I am willing to buy a linux Pc because freedom not free.

  • Remember Windows is made by Microsoft a huge Corp while Linux is a community effort(Gnu & Open Source).

  • dude it is not a fair comparison.

linux is for IT peeps while windows is for all.

the other thing is that when u say linux u r really refering to a group of different things put together like the kernal, the shell(command line interface[CLI] i.e. Bash), gui (window manager i.e. KDE/Gnome..etc.)

Regardless of all that I would say Ubuntu is really impressive for a linux distro. cause the bluetooth works out of the box and the 3G modem also works out of the box. so it is still improving...

  • Well, after this entire episode of disillusionment, I decide to install openSUSE 12.1 on both my desktop computer AND my netbook. So you can pretty much disregard this entire video.

    Sorry for the trouble.

  • @VenomousWoe Hey thanks for your patience with my last comment. I'm not just saying that because you converted LOL... Responding to the comment you sent me, let it be known that ANYONE can walk through a windows machine (even remotely) so I need to first state that your comment about viruses and the like as being preventable in a windows machine is an illusion (even lots of bandaids will eventually leave the owner reinstalling and counterproductivity). your ceiling looks brighter now.

  • Sad....I'm embarrassed to be American .... LOL doh! I tried this and it wasn't perfect...wah.....I want to go back to viruses, malware, spyware, trojans, and worms because it's so simple....wah.....I want to go back to slower computing and less flashy graphics .... Linux is what you make it into....simply personalize a distro to your field of expertise (but

please don't share with us what that might be).

  • @kenhendrick Ah, but viruses and malware are preventable, and Windows is aesthetically appealing enough. As for the slower computing thing, no kidding. Takes Windows fifteen seconds to open a fucking program, lol.

  • People said the same thing about Apple Mac , because Mac also didn't have any software for almost 20 years , and then Mac OS X came out and more companies started making software for it. All Linux desktop need is more than 10 percent of the market-share than software companies will make software for it. Mac OS is based off of idea's Apple took from MkLinux, BSD, and NeXTSTEP. Did you know that Apple's MkLinux project was Apples first open project ? Now Apple Mac is open base on Linux , and BSD .

  • @maw88ify That 10% market share will only come around if Ubuntu or some other Linux distro does something bold and amazing like OSX, as well as introduce greater compatibility with Windows and OSX software. Unless if the WINE project gets funding by Google, I doubt that the latter will happen.

  • You CAN pick and choose elements you like from different distributions and add them into others. This is the beauty of linux. What linux users enjoy is tweaking our systems and customizing our systems. You are not limited in software from repositories at all, You can always download a tarball and compile from source. Linux is more geared towards people who enjoy setting everything up how they want. It isn't for everyone. If you don't want to learn a new OS don't switch. To each their own though.

  • @gamerguy610 Compiling from source is not a viable option for most users. The easiest way to get software for Linux is either from repos or as a precompiled binary, and I've heard that doing the latter introduces a security risk (although the same could be said of downloading Windows software). That's what computers are all about for most people; getting things done quickly and easily, and Linux just doesn't do that as far as the desktop is concerned.

  • @VenomousWoe How exactly isn't compiling a viable option? Yes, it is possible to have dependency issues and whatnot but those are for the most part easily resolved. It's not always quick or instant and you may have to learn a thing or two to set things up how you want them. If you want something you can just start up and use without learning anything new or are not switching to Linux to meet a need that windows is not satisfying for you then why would you even switch. If you want windows use it.
