  • WOW!! Awesome.. Your home is beautiful :) My GF and I are looking for a bus and just stayed up late to watch all your videos to this point! Just a couple of hours ago you were parked on the farm in the snow with your kitchen blown away and now it's so pretty! Much love from the southern US!

  • I *really* like your videos, I *really really* liked this one!! Nerd r me. Would be interested in some crude measurements on the rooms ... your bus seems bigger than mine. Also how wide are the doors inside? Thanks!!

  • @mudspringer I uploaded our bus plan to imgur and I'll send you the link. That has all the measurements. I'll also add the link in the description of the video.

  • CO2? Don't u mean CO??

  • @BLR1GBattlemaster yes, yes... every time we watch this video we facepalm.

  • incredible home. Two big questions from me:

    1. what do you plan on doing when your girls grow out of theirs bunks?

    2. how is the insulation? I can't imagine your home being able to keep heat very well in the winter with all the windows? Or are they double-pane?

  • @Biker790 If we are still traveling when the girls get bigger we will upgrade to a bigger bus. We might even move into a house someday. The insulation is quite good... we insulated all the walls and double-insulated the places where windows used to be, and it has a better R-value than a mobile home. The windows are a weak spot but it makes up for it in other ways.

  • wondering why you would mount the 12v water pump out side?

  • I'm fascinated with the Seperatt. I know Nicole says it doesn't smell but how is it overall? Pros, cons that sort of thing. How often do you end up emptying it and how gross is it when you do? I'm weighing getting one for myself so your feedback will be very helpful. :) Thank you and this project looks awesome! Great Job!

  • @Cypressmyst We love it. It's an amazing and simple piece of engineering. There are 3 adults and 3 kids using it at the moment and we can go 3-4 weeks before we empty it. Of course it's not like a conventional toilet so there's a couple of learning curves. One is usage - if you use less toilet paper you don't have to empty it as often, and you do need to 'flush' it after using it by pouring a small amount of water in. We keep a cup on the bathroom counter for that purpose.

  • @Cypressmyst Also... when you empty the bucket every month there is a somewhat unpleasant task of tying up the compost bag and putting the lid on the bucket. It's not that bad though. You just tie it, put the lid on, take the whole bucket out of the toilet and carry it out. Then I usually clean the whole inside like you would any regular toilet. One neat feature is that every time you use it, the bucket turns so you never have a pile of material growing in one area. We like it!

  • @steampunkbus Thank you for taking the time to reply. I do believe we will get one and give it a go. :)

  • where will the kids sleep when they grow up?

  • @GabrielBacon I would guess the family would move into a house once their trip/project is over, or after few years at most. If I recall correctly, John is studying to get into medical school, so I'm sure he'll settle into a house once he embarks on his career.

  • @GabrielBacon I'm really hoping they move out of the house and start their own families when they grow up.

  • @steampunkbus it's just that the beds seem kid size. a bit small for a teenager, no?

  • @steampunkbus I mean when they become full grown. those bunks are kiddie sized

  • Isn't that plywood underneath going to rot when it gets wet?

  • Those beds will need to be larger when they grow up?

  • Found video via reddit. Love your home. If you ever need a more efficient, higher output alternator for charging the batteries I recommend the Fitzall-220. I believe yours outputs 60amps. The Fitzall-220 outputs 110amps at idle and 220amps when driving. I use it with my lil Kia Sould and 4 batteries. I do a lot of outdoor djing and I'm also the goto guy for electricity when our apartment complex gets the power knocked out. I got mine from powerbastards com but I'm sure you can find it cheaper

  • What did this entire project cost?

  • @anakinseviltwin $35,000

  • That is an awesome job! I'm looking to do this as well. What was your budget and do you have any tips?

  • @harpersvids $35,000 over a period of two years, so we didn't have to put that together up front. As for tips, I would say that there are a lot of school bus conversions out there but it's really worth it to do the research and do a good job and not just slap something together. Cheap is quick but pay a bit more and you'll have something worth money and that will last a long time.

  • Computer actually run from DC power...

  • That's an amazing bus for sure.

  • Sheittt. My folks did this back in the 80's on a hippie commune.

  • steampunk trailer trash

  • Hm. A family of 5 in a bus. Seems cramped.

  • fuckin hipster

  • @deputy1389 Calling people hipsters is the new hipster. I think this project is pretty damn impressive. Guess it would have been totally different if it was an old man in overalls or something?

  • @drewblood Nope, just he'd be an aging hippie fuck.

  • Im wondering why you didnt put ina tankless waterheater???

  • @jdyrj777 budget.

  • love it

  • Whats the weeeeeeeee sound 10:10 ?

  • @stermr That is an alarm that goes off until the air brakes have reached a reasonable air pressure.

  • Wow. The bus looks great. You all did a great job on the conversion.

  • very cool

  • this is a tc 2000, right?

  • @TheMorton54 Yes, it is.

  • Very inspirational. :) May I ask what your total cost of getting your bus to 95% complete has been?

  • @MichaelAlahouzos $40,000 or so.

  • Tin Tin! 8D

I used to LOVE those comics. owo

  • Very Nice. I like the carpet on the stepwell. That will be good for noise. I knew the visibility for your door would be horrible. My bus has a the old jackknife door, and visibility with that isn't even that good.

  • was it cheaper to build your own bus instead of buying like an RV?

  • How is the gas mileage?

  • Looks awesome!!! :)

  • @Keira2694 We have a furnace with air ducts through out.

  • @steampunkbus What kind of furnace?

  • @stermr propane.

  • What happens if engine is on and charging batterys and shorepower is plugged?

  • Great job!

  • Paint the door :P

  • @BuntAsHell We are going to. We are waiting till we change the paint on the whole bus.

  • John, I loved this video. Thank you so much for making it.

Sometimes through the build, when you've been caught on camera you've been... tired and "get that camera out of here!" LOL.. It's really great to see you grab the camera and just share with us what's awesome and fun about this project to you.

I'm quite jealous of the beautiful living space you all have, and with all that metal, I hope you're socking up on fridge poetry magnets, and getting touristy magnets in all the places you visit.

  • If you can - try to add Solar Panels to the roof of your bus. Im guessing with your current power set up, wiring for a couple of solar panels would be tricky but might be worth the effort. Excellent work! Beautiful bus!

  • nice bus!!!!! you put a lot of time into it. i am re-doing one myself and you have given me a lot of nice ideas to help. a lot of people laughed when i told them i bought a bus to convert and this goes to show that you can do it.

  • How is the visibility while driving with the rv door? / how many amp hours in your battery bank? :)

  • @timmylc Visibility is poor, and I hope to add an additional window.

The battery bank is around 500 amp hours.

  • so when are you leaving?

  • Excellent tour. You're doing a styling job! Nice to see the process come together.

  • wow the bus is looking so amazing! you guys really did a great job!!!
