without Midnight Run we wouldnt have Adult Swim, & if Adult Swim wasnt run by Aholes I would enjoy watching it more.
I miss Toonami so much & it pains me to say this but Maguzi (a watered down replacement before robo-jarjar tom) was at least entertaining.
CN is trying to save money by importing Canadian shows & making retarded live action shows, which in comparison is probably cheaper than producing an animated series.
I watched Toonami since it first came out on March 17 1997. I remember eating pizza on that day & was watching CN then it came on & I was like wth? It was fun watching all these awesome shows. Such good times.
And I believe you were referring to the adventures Tom had on the Absolution. They were week long events that you had to help Tom w/ decisions regarding the Absolution. The first was "the intruder" where they were attacked by the blob. After Tom got his new suit he destroyed a part of the ship to get rid of the blob & you had to go to Toonami.com to decide the new parts for the spaceship.
The second was "lockdown". This is the one you were talking about that came on w/ DBZ: the android saga. Tom & Sera tried to rescue a ship using an army of droids they called the docks. But they get trapped by a tractor beam & have to fight some monster using the docks. Then the last on was "trapped in hyperspace" where Tom & Sera go to hyperspace & get trapped there by some guy.
Yes...just yes...you hit every point, you rambled, but yes, it works...you made the points I agreed with 100%... also the events you were thinking about are called 'total imersion events' TIEs. for short. INtrUdEr, was 1, LockDown, was 2, and Trapped in Hyperspace, was the 3rd and last one. least, i think it was...
you know whats really sad i remember sailor moon better than all of those shows. also i stopped watching once they moved it to the weekend. also when i think back to toonami i think of the same years of toonami as you.
Toonami was such a great experiment to have been a part of. You look at cartoon network now and can't help feel kinda bad for the kids growing up with it. I have really early memories of toonami with Ranma 1/2. That show was not like anything I'd ever seen and I was really little but I remember I had a red headed barbie I used to pretend was girl Ranma lol. Then later I remember SailorMoon of course, Dragonball and my personal favorite Reboot (which you should do a review of :D)
so that's toonami for me, the way you have ronin warriors, sailor moon, gundam wing, and dbz I have batman beyond, big o, and both dragonball series and of course the awesomeness of naruto and my forbidden fruit, rave master.
I later watched more rave master online and had those same feelings but realized it was a very poor dub. later it had yugioh gx, naruto, one piece and samurai jack. I watched and loved all of these. and I watched it till it ended with the two narutos and samurai jacks.
I remember thinking how could tyler recommend igpx this is terrible. (i've never been to into mechas except seeing ggundam with a friend and loving it) I hated the fighting but they had a date episode which I remember being really great for the characters and reminding me a lot of the yugioh date episode with johnny steps. I remember just by the opening of rave master thinking that it was so epic, and was funny, very cool fights, had kids heart in the show, and a strange sense of humor.
I couldn't stay up to watch certain things with my parents deciding bed time and no tv in my room. all i saw was yugioh gx, duel masters, some anime I can't remember, and justice league, which I didn't care about because it wasn't an anime. my friends would always talk about rave master and igpx and I would never get to and feel like I was missing out. one time my parents were out and watched two igpx episodes and half rave master (they got home).
for the longest time there was only one tv in my house (and if my dad wanted to watch it I had to do something else) and every kid I knew had one in there room, and when I got a tv in my room they were like "how could you not have one" and I remember one girl who had a tv being excited to get a fan which to me would have been essential and was always in my room since I was born. so since my parents could take over I didn't have a tv to keep me up with so it was almost making me sleep.
then they got samurai jack which I loved. I remember having the samurai jack movie (3 eps spliced together to sell the movie. jackasses.) and remember there were always those C.N. temporary tattoos and I would always wear jack. as I got older it became only saturday and they had yugioh gx, justice league, duel masters and anime I don't remember.
I remember cardacaptors being on there too one day when I came home followed by sailor moon. (which I uniquely admitted anything i liked and was ripped on forever ,like powerpuff girls). I also remember seeing a mecha not sure if it was gundam where some dude tries to get some chick and ends up fighting her brother and destroying something important where she leaves crying.
when I was younger I would come home from kindergarten and toonami would be on when it used to be a weekday block. it would have batman beyond(to this day my favorite non anime animated series), big o(did not follow it at all as a kid but loved the style and characters seemed cool to me), dragonball and dragonball z (alternating days or right after the other which confused the shit out of me when i was a kid considering i couldn't yet read to pick up on the z in the title to differentiate.
That's wierd . I remember watching Toonamy as a kid, ( in Romania ) but they weren't showing animes : they were showing Justice League, Batman "of the future" ( I swear it wasn't Beyond ) and x-men evolution . That was actualy how I discovered these shows
The only thing I remember from Sailor Moon is that it had this really hot chick named Zoizite...and then it turned out that Zoizite was a guy...and...yeah...so...uhhh....how bout them New York Jets?
@blowshimselfupdude actually, dbz uncut didnt air on the mid-night run. There was gundam wing uncut! but not dbz uncut. dbz uncut played at one point but not the time you're think of. just saying :D
oh man I remember when I started watching Toonami. I saw it late at night at my grandmother's on there late night airing and I couldn't but love almost ever anime they put up on it. IT was hard watching it on the day slots cause when the anime's aired my parents would change the channel to hunting shows....woah was me at times, but I still caught with all the series somehow... don't ask how, but I did it. BOO'YAH! I miss Toonami now though. I wish they just kept it going.
I think it's cool that you grew up at the brink of the last great cartoons. Plus, you had anime and really good anime at that. I wished cartoons went back to expressing mature themes. Though, it's probably not that bad as I think it is.
Oh man, Toonami. Wow, great memories there. Such simpler times back then. I watched Toonami since Moltar was the host, then eventually Tom. I have to admit I didn't like Tom at first but he grew on me.
DBZ was my favorite show as well, but there were some solid lineups that supported DBZ.
i like your video explaining how toonami was good, remember they re-aired dbz again back un may of 2008 then they took it off again. dont worry you can watch ronin warriors on youtube.
Tom was the best host in Toonami.

Tom gets his third suit by some event that happened on Toonami.com which they never showed on t.v. but I've never seen it so I'm not really sure.

I went back and watched 'Ronin Warriors'; it was grossly dissapointing to say the least.
It's kind of like going back and watching TMNT episodes, it's always going to be disenchanting. (sigh)...
Still. I like the desert themed ronin because of his relationship with his nemesis.
