why does everyone keep referring to the original "novel"? - it was a play, based on an earlier vonnegut play called penelope, circa. 1960. the look of the thing is typical crappy tv quality, as are the sets, and worst the direction itself which is right out of some antiquated handbook. can imagine it being remade as a film, like wes anderson meets the loved one, but vonnegut is rather dated - may take some distance to vivify him, or forget him completely.
I saw the movie when I was 16 and thought it wierd which soon led me to purchase the play itself. I don't understand why Vonnegut hated it. It was a great commentary on clash that had taken place between the post WWII generation and the generation living through the Vietnam War. My mother who was not a very literate person eventually also read the play after I was done. I think it was good piece considering the era it was making comment about.
I saw this in film school around 1980. As I recall, it didn't get very good reviews, but everybody in the class seemed to like it. I sure did. The minimalist amusement park set for Heaven is deliciously eerie.
I read the novel in the '60's and loved it -- in a strange sort of way. I guess I had forgotten about the movie -- don't think I ever saw that. Thanks for the insight.
f.y.i. - the actress playing wanda june was found guilty in 2000 for possession of an elephant prod.

Any idea where one could find the movie in it entirety?

@dwilla Sorry, no. The author wanted all copies pulled. I just happened to catch it on TV one day and VHS'd it.
