The polices failure to tackle the initial riot and looting, was the primary catalyst to the widespread looting that followed after. People simply realised they werent going to get caught. Gove is right though, the cuts have made absolutely no difference to the ones doing the rioting. Maybe if these riots had taken place a few years after the cuts then they could be a cause, but not a few months. The people rioting weren't protesting, they were simply stealing and causing criminal damage.

actually this problem emerged from teh de inustrialiseation in the 80s were towns no longer have an industry to support the people into work, therefore there are no longer enough jobs in the areas were the towns developed from industry, therefore you have no option to give people benafits or if you dont you get crime simple. after the miners strike we have had about 3 to 5 generations who have only ever lived on the doal, and its not their fault there are no industries left and too few jobs

You could be forgiven for thinking that the woman on the right of the picture was still a Government Minister, and the gentleman to the left an Opposition MP. A truly breathtaking display of naivete from Harman, and shows how out of touch she and her Labour cronies really are. An absolute disgrace. Harriet Harman was uttererly destroyed in this debate. I kinda hope the riots continue for a short while so it pushes the people more to the right. The idea of cutting these scum off from benifits and evicting them from council property is awesome. The next step is to revoke there british citizenship and deport them to the country of parents \ grandparents origin. The wishy washy left will be on the run very soon and good riddance.

You can tell she's just paying lip service to the issue of law and order or the protection of the weakest members of society who were attacked by the criminal rioters
