The opening lyrics are, infact, identical to Learning to Live. Aside from that, there are many other similarities in many of their other songs (riffs, drum patterns, etc.) that indicate they were heavily inspired by DT.
@thepalemonarch I was just about to write the exact same thing! The vocal melody and everything, the groove, bassline, drums beat, chord progression... I wonder if they did it on purpose?
I think dream theater is as far as you go skill wise in music. these guys are epic none the less. ive grown to love pagans mind and i really hope people in the us wise the fuck up and start listening to prog metal instead of this lil wayne bullshit
Nils has said in interviews though that Dream Theater is definitely his biggest influence lyrically and melodically, so I guess its more of an homage than a rip off.

EndOfYourDays , These guys probably wouldn't be like this if it wasn't for Dream Theater
matman912808 2 years ago
Probably not, but they're still better.

That's your our opinion,
I think Pagan's Mind is pretty good, but I over all favor Dream Theater

Yes, Dream Theater is very good, but now I think that their music resembles more the rock which has of the metal

Yeah, I think they keep moving a little more to Mainstream

Learning To Live by Dream Theater - same lyric and very similar bassline at that point

Oh wow I didn't even notice that.

Just getting into these guys. Great attack with the heaviness and love the strong attachment to melody. Too many bands lose that.
