you got to remember that this is being played through a camera / video camcorder. so the sound is going to be off because it gets digitalized. Its the same concept why your voice is different when you listen to your voicemail greeeting.

But the base price of the car and all the modifications cost me a grand total of 4k. Such a fun Daily driver while still getting 30+ mpg.

Not through a cat-back, even my friend's STi can't get those gains with just that.
But yes with head work, you are about right. It's still a waste of money for those gains. Cams: $300ish, head work with PnP about $400. Might need to upgrade your cam springs as well.
Getting power from a non-forced inducted 4 cylinder is pointless and a waste unless it has V-TEC or any other variable valve timing system.
