I'm pretty sure if you hook your remote wire to Yellow which is constant hot your amp will be on all the time whether the car is on or off. Check for switched power I'm pretty sure it's usually red. Switched power will have 12v when the key is on and 0v when the key is off.
Great video bro! Quick question, the blue remote wire for the amp goes to the yellow constant from the car??? Also, how would I connect the front speakers to the amp if I wanted to??
color codes are the same but my output converter has different colored wires . it has 8 wires (black grey stripe)..blue...yellow....black....(grey black stripe)... (white black stripe)....white.... grey
i have a feeling it's just all the same, your yellow, blue, and black is probably for inputs and one output. that yellow is connected to your constant 12v, black is ground, and your blue is most likely a remote turn on for your amp, so i'm assuming you won't need to tap into the accessory wire but instead the constant 12v with the yellow wire. hope this helps
god thank you! wish it had better lighting but this video is life saving. ok maybe not that deep but i love the factory look (weird huh??) but want my subs
@phamsihung No,no,no. I meant to say I had no problem doing it with my truck but now that I have a Mazda 3 I do not see any holes or anything that I can run my wire through
take the headunit out, open it up, go look for the "RCA mod" and braze a pair of line-outs onto the circuit board and be happy with the best quality you could get from the stock HU.
i have a Mitsubishi eclipse 2000, that does not have the rca output and i cant find a sloc, or line out converter any were , do you know if i can connect wires strait to the radio
Instead of using that a regular line output converter, i would recommend something like a LC6i, which preamps the signal so you don't lose much sound quality when you start cranking the volume up.
@iverson954360 you could, or you could also get the something from MTX called the Re-Q, it actually focuses just on the sub output. but it also costs more. the LC6i is good too, i think i would go with the LC6i just because it's able to do so many inputs and outputs. thank you for the information about the LC6i
Question: OK so i plan on doing everything you have done here.... am i also able to connect a LOC to the front speakers to connect a 2 ch amp? I wont connect the LOC to the wires going to the speakers... just directly from the output of the head-unit. then take my speaker outs from the amp and connect to the front speaker wires i had cut off in behind the head-unit? this way i will have 2 front speakers running off the amp. back speakers running off the head-unit, and my sub off its one amp.
@11Deaner, if your amp came with a high level connector cable, you should be fine without the LOC, don't use a LOC for your speaker outputs to your speaker amp. so yes, use a LOC for the subs, but tap into the rear speaker wires, and use the outputs from your fronts to input into your speaker amp. if both amps came with a high level input cable, then just use those instead of using the LOC or high level converter which will normally cost about 20 to 50 dollars,
when installing an amp for a LPF to run subwoofer which speaker wires do you splice open? I am wondering because it only gives options for the rears and fronts, no sub option. I'm curious as to how i get power if i were to splice open a rear speaker to the rear speakers? thanks :)
tap into the rear speaker wire outputs. there isn't a sub output option, the lpf wouldn't be needed in the case of a subwoofer output being present. the lpf will filter out the higher frequencies that exists in the speaker outputs. your amp is the power, the rca that goes to your amp is the signal you're receiving from your speaker outputs that you tapped into.
because i plan on putting 2 12's in my mazda 3 with a thousand watt amp and thats the only thing i need really and i cant find it anywhere so if you could please send me a link where i could get one or a store it would be much appreciated.....
@Heyitsme8888 sorry i can't, cuz i don't own this vehicle, but if i work on another, i'll make sure it's better quality than this, hopefully it helps out a little even though it's dark, thanks for watching
@phamsihung thanks man. BTW, what's your opinion on ground loop noise isolators? i'm thinking of adding an aux connector like aux mod or grom and hooking up one of those cheapo Sirius receivers plugged into the cigarette lighter
@Heyitsme8888 those isolators do work, but i don't trust them so much, i'd rather just redo the entire system to make sure everything is correct. i.e. cleaning up ground connections. depending on your vehicle, sometimes their cigarette lighters are always on even if you turn your vehicle off. so watch out for that. it'll be better to tap into an accessory line to power on/off your radio
Hey had a question iz every yellow wire da turn on wire? N wat is t-tap? Cuz I been tryin to help my boy out wit his amp n he has a i30 wit Bose speakers n fartory radio n we just found out dat we need a adapter cuz all da speakers in da car have lil amps with dem so were a lil lost?? Any help man?
no, not every yellow wire is the turn on, some people say t tapping is using the plastic butt joints that taps into the wire they want, and some people say t tapping is simply tapping into the wire they want
my adjustable LOC has 2 brown ground wires. However you just mention one ground wire on the h/u (black/green). What do I do with my LOC's 2 ground wires?
DO NOT FOLLOW THIS HOW TO. This guy has no knowledge of car audio installation. He taped the high level output wires to the factory speaker harness. This will create interference after it is put together. This guy is not a professional. DO NOT FOLLOW THIS HOW TO.
why are you hating? let me ask you this, where else can you find the high level output? at the speakers? even if they are at the speakers, it doesn't make a difference since they are still connected directly to the HU not through a factory amp, so how does it create interference?
Using a high to low level converter is fine is the connections are done properly. You twisted the wires together and taped them. That is hardly a good connection which will lead to interference.
i didn't just cut them and twist them like how house electical is done, the way i twisted them on, is the same way as doing a T tap, only thing i didn't do there was to solder the joints, i didn't show the soldering parts in this video, and i'm hoping that everyone understands that soldering is the best way. wire connections that aren't done properly doesnt' cause interference, it leads to a system either not working, shorting out, or having ground loops. any more questions?
Keep in mind I was not asking you any questions. I am not wanting advice from you. There is no way to twist a wire on that is the same as a T tap. A T tap is just as bad as taping a wire. The proper way would be to use heat shrink tubing with and adhesive inside to keep moisture out. An solder is the only way to do this properly. Do you have any more questions? You also didn't say anything about soldering connections in this vid.
it started off by you saying that there will be interference when i connect it at the harness. how is a t tap bad? it's kinda obvious that if i don't use butt joints, i'm going to solder it, and by looking at the wiring job, can you find one person on here who thinks that it's a bad tapping job? besides the fact that i didn't use heat shrink? T tapping the wire is the same thing as considered soldering into it, T tap is just a method of joining the wire
let me rephrase, i'm not using T tap plastic joints, what i mean is tapping into the wire and soldering it is the same method you are trying to explain to me, i think we're just misunderstanding each other, but i don't get your point about the interference, if you can explain it a little clearer
Just to clarify the 2nd part of my qustion, i meant to ask if after i have already installed an amp that conncects to all 4 oem speakers+ subwwofer i wanna repalce the oem speakers with new ones, would i need to run wires into the doors in order for it to work through the amp or jusr take the doors apart, take out the old speakers and put in new ones using oem wires.. thnx!!
you can't use low level converters for the amp that connects to the 4 oem speakers, you would have to use the high level, which will cost about 3 times more than regular low level converter. if you want to swap the speakers, you can simply do it. you don't have to change oem wires
so if i just follow your directions from the clip would all my 4 speakers go through the new amp? how big of an amp (how many watts/ channels) do i need to buy for my 4 oem speakers (25wattsX4) + a 400watts RMS subwoofer? Thnx alot!!
no, in this video i'm just showing how to hook up an amp to run subwoofers. the low level converter will only allow low frequencies to pass through, so just bass to the sub amp
Thats a really great video dude thnx alot!!! i just got one question, if i wanna get an amp and connect all 4 oem speakers+ a new subwoofer into it how do i do that? do i use another LOC converter? also, if i ever wanna replace the oem speakers with new ones can i just use the same wiring i had for the oem speakers with the new amp? thnx!!
hey man thanks for the video, but i have one question, does the LOC needs to be connected to any other wires other than the speaker wires? Im trying to connect a system in to my car, but i just need to know how to connect the LOC correctly. oh one more thing, for the remote cable, you just connected it to the yellow cable right, The memory? correct me if im wrong, thanks man.
the accessory wire isn't actually the memory wire, it's just a signal to turn the radio on and off, the power wire is actually what keeps the memory. so yeah, connect it to the yellow wire for remote to give signal to your amp to turn on. same concept. but anyways, the LOC only needs to be connected to speaker outputs from the Head Unit. and the then connect it to your rca's. thanks for watching
this was a very GREAT device to be created because i also have made use of it, except i have a diffrent converter for general and ford vehicles with BOSE stock radios..i have an oldschool cadillac and wanted to keep the oldschool look to it but under all oldschool appearance i have two 600watt kenwoods hooked up to a 760watt pioneer amp and everything is knockin hard "Thanks scosche products"!!
very nice DIY. Everybody always asks me how I hooked my subs up to my stock radio in my Mazda 3. I got it done at a sound shop so I had no clue. I'll be sure to send them this video from now on. haha
like you said, little more light and it would be perfect
i never had to touch my radio at all to install my amp with a factory radio. all i did was find the fuse that controls the radio, cuz any other fuse would keep the amp on, wrap the remote wire around it, popped the fuse back in, and tied my converter to my 6 by 9s in the back. i had a 91 bonneville and i had that factory radio the whole time. i never popped my radio out to hook my sounds up
you mean the 6 by 8's in the rear doors? a lot of people do it at the radio cuz all the signal is there, the accessory wire the i tapped into is the same fuse that controls your radio to turn on. whichever way you do it, the main idea is to just get remote turn on signal and audio signal. no matter what type of vehicle
i'm from canada, so it cost me 17 taxes in. you shouldn't be spending more than 20 bucks on it. don't let the sales people try to trick you into buying a converter that is adjustable, because those are just for high level. you want the low level one
yes, for the 2007 it would exactly the same, watch part 2 for the complete install. you can get that converter at a Best Buy. i think they carry the Stinger brand. just get the regular low level converter or SLOC
Thanks man. But, I ran into another problem, I cant find a hole in my cars firewall to run the bettery cable. I might just goto circuit city and let them do it. You think they will charge less since they are going out of business and I already have more than half the wires ran?
watch part 2, i show you how to get it through the firewall. and if you do bring it to some place that installs amps, they might charge you more since their excuse is that they'll have to remove and re run the job you did on it, so it'll take them more time. i use to work at a car audio install bay, but that's just my take on it
NEVER get anything done to your car at Circuit City or Best Buy if you can help it. They will charge you out the ass.
Just go to a local sound shop. They'll hook you up for half the price.
As for the firewall, If you look kind of behind the battery cover, you'll see a hole conveniently placed in the firewall. Its already got a rubber grommet lining it. The other side of the hole comes out where the pedals are
hey great video man. Just a quick question, how can I install a 4 channel amp for the car speaker, I already have the subs and stock stereo on a 03 accord. would i use the same cables or would i have to do the wiring al over. the amp that i have already installed was done by someone else so i dont know..
if you want to install the new 4 channel amp, you'll have to wire your stock stereo speaker wires into the 4 channel amp, either as high signal or low... when you do low signal, such as RCA cables to the amp, you'll have to use signal converters for the high frequencies to work... and these converters are like 45 dollars a piece, and you'll end up needing two of them, then from your 4 channel amp, there should be a "sum out" rca pair, which you daisy chain it to your sub amp. you can do it
Nice vid... But I have a 1995 S10 blazer and I cant seem to get the dash off to remove the factory radio. If anyone could help that would be great. Nice video too bro.
have question?? can i hook up 2 different brand amp. to 1 Speaker??? and also if i have two 12in kicker in 1 box can i have 2 different amp hookup to each 1??
1 - i don't think that's a great idea to hook up two amps to one speaker because of the timing of the amps would be off.
2- you can hook up different amps to each one, but this all depends on your amps too. i still wouldn't recommend doing it that way. but are they both 2 channels? or are they both mono?
this way is actually easier (in my opinion), tapping into the backdoors takes more time, plus, you have to get at the accessory wire anyways, no point in doing each back door, then going under the dash to get at the accessory, or run longer wires to reach the LOC. kill two birds with one stone by doing it all at the front, and i wanted to show how to remove the radio too
this is actually a friend's car, i threw in a small rockford amp, the p300.2, and two ten inch rockford punch HE2's (200 rms each). I'll post up my own system sometime :)
Thanks, this video helped a lot!!

Just to clarify the 2nd part of my qustion, i meant to ask if after i have already installed an amp that conncects to all 4 oem speakers+ subwwofer i wanna repalce the oem speakers with new ones, would i need to run wires into the doors in order for it to work through the amp or jusr take the doors apart, take out the old speakers and put in new ones using oem wires.. thnx!!
smomo10 2 years ago
you can't use low level converters for the amp that connects to the 4 oem speakers, you would have to use the high level, which will cost about 3 times more than regular low level converter. if you want to swap the speakers, you can simply do it. you don't have to change oem wires
phamsihung 2 years ago
so if i just follow your directions from the clip would all my 4 speakers go through the new amp? how big of an amp (how many watts/ channels) do i need to buy for my 4 oem speakers (25wattsX4) + a 400watts RMS subwoofer? Thnx alot!!
smomo10 2 years ago
no, in this video i'm just showing how to hook up an amp to run subwoofers. the low level converter will only allow low frequencies to pass through, so just bass to the sub amp
phamsihung 2 years ago
So to hook up a amp on a factory stereo you need a adapter for the rca cables and the remote start wire where does it hook up to in the stereo??
GETaLIFEb0z0 2 years ago
the remote turn on is hooked up to the accessory wire of the vehicle, just like how i showed and in the description there would be the colour codes
phamsihung 2 years ago
Thats a really great video dude thnx alot!!! i just got one question, if i wanna get an amp and connect all 4 oem speakers+ a new subwoofer into it how do i do that? do i use another LOC converter? also, if i ever wanna replace the oem speakers with new ones can i just use the same wiring i had for the oem speakers with the new amp? thnx!!
smomo10 2 years ago
hey question, where does the remote wire go to? any help
knuthfamily 2 years ago
one end goes to your amp, one side goes to your vehicle's accessory wire which is yellow, the colour codes are in the discription
phamsihung 2 years ago
hey man thanks for the video, but i have one question, does the LOC needs to be connected to any other wires other than the speaker wires? Im trying to connect a system in to my car, but i just need to know how to connect the LOC correctly. oh one more thing, for the remote cable, you just connected it to the yellow cable right, The memory? correct me if im wrong, thanks man.
gerarodo 2 years ago
the accessory wire isn't actually the memory wire, it's just a signal to turn the radio on and off, the power wire is actually what keeps the memory. so yeah, connect it to the yellow wire for remote to give signal to your amp to turn on. same concept. but anyways, the LOC only needs to be connected to speaker outputs from the Head Unit. and the then connect it to your rca's. thanks for watching

thanks for the hint man.

this was a very GREAT device to be created because i also have made use of it, except i have a diffrent converter for general and ford vehicles with BOSE stock radios..i have an oldschool cadillac and wanted to keep the oldschool look to it but under all oldschool appearance i have two 600watt kenwoods hooked up to a 760watt pioneer amp and everything is knockin hard "Thanks scosche products"!!

very nice DIY. Everybody always asks me how I hooked my subs up to my stock radio in my Mazda 3. I got it done at a sound shop so I had no clue. I'll be sure to send them this video from now on. haha
like you said, little more light and it would be perfect
5 stars man

i never had to touch my radio at all to install my amp with a factory radio. all i did was find the fuse that controls the radio, cuz any other fuse would keep the amp on, wrap the remote wire around it, popped the fuse back in, and tied my converter to my 6 by 9s in the back. i had a 91 bonneville and i had that factory radio the whole time. i never popped my radio out to hook my sounds up
IamHPilla 3 years ago
you mean the 6 by 8's in the rear doors? a lot of people do it at the radio cuz all the signal is there, the accessory wire the i tapped into is the same fuse that controls your radio to turn on. whichever way you do it, the main idea is to just get remote turn on signal and audio signal. no matter what type of vehicle
phamsihung 3 years ago
my speakers were in the back by the wind shield and the back end of my speakers stuck out in the trunk and i just tied my converter to them.
IamHPilla 3 years ago
how much did the convertor cost u?
IBERTO1 3 years ago
i'm from canada, so it cost me 17 taxes in. you shouldn't be spending more than 20 bucks on it. don't let the sales people try to trick you into buying a converter that is adjustable, because those are just for high level. you want the low level one
phamsihung 3 years ago
yo dude where did u get the convertor and can this be done in a mazda 3 2007?
IBERTO1 3 years ago
yes, for the 2007 it would exactly the same, watch part 2 for the complete install. you can get that converter at a Best Buy. i think they carry the Stinger brand. just get the regular low level converter or SLOC

Thanks man. But, I ran into another problem, I cant find a hole in my cars firewall to run the bettery cable. I might just goto circuit city and let them do it. You think they will charge less since they are going out of business and I already have more than half the wires ran?
Ahezerith 3 years ago
watch part 2, i show you how to get it through the firewall. and if you do bring it to some place that installs amps, they might charge you more since their excuse is that they'll have to remove and re run the job you did on it, so it'll take them more time. i use to work at a car audio install bay, but that's just my take on it
phamsihung 3 years ago
NEVER get anything done to your car at Circuit City or Best Buy if you can help it. They will charge you out the ass.
Just go to a local sound shop. They'll hook you up for half the price.
As for the firewall, If you look kind of behind the battery cover, you'll see a hole conveniently placed in the firewall. Its already got a rubber grommet lining it. The other side of the hole comes out where the pedals are

hey great video man. Just a quick question, how can I install a 4 channel amp for the car speaker, I already have the subs and stock stereo on a 03 accord. would i use the same cables or would i have to do the wiring al over. the amp that i have already installed was done by someone else so i dont know..
mita1212 3 years ago
if you want to install the new 4 channel amp, you'll have to wire your stock stereo speaker wires into the 4 channel amp, either as high signal or low... when you do low signal, such as RCA cables to the amp, you'll have to use signal converters for the high frequencies to work... and these converters are like 45 dollars a piece, and you'll end up needing two of them, then from your 4 channel amp, there should be a "sum out" rca pair, which you daisy chain it to your sub amp. you can do it

Nice vid... But I have a 1995 S10 blazer and I cant seem to get the dash off to remove the factory radio. If anyone could help that would be great. Nice video too bro.

Remove (2)
screws above the speedometer cluster. Remove the ashtray and (1) screw exposed in the
ashtray cavity. Remove (2) screws from the lower steering column trim bezel and remove the
bezel. Unclip the dash trim bezel, disconnect the light switch wiring and remove th e bezel.
Remove (4) screws securing the climate control panel and remove the panel. Remove (4)
screws securing the factory head unit/pocket assembly and disconnect the wiring.

Quick question... on the color coding on the side, you say Accessory is Yellow... is this the color you mean for the remote wire?
soccajj 3 years ago
yes, that's what you would connect the remote wire to, it triggers the amp to turn on. so yes, it would be that wire
phamsihung 3 years ago
Thanks alot :-)

have question?? can i hook up 2 different brand amp. to 1 Speaker??? and also if i have two 12in kicker in 1 box can i have 2 different amp hookup to each 1??
xCrakH3aDx 3 years ago
1 - i don't think that's a great idea to hook up two amps to one speaker because of the timing of the amps would be off.
2- you can hook up different amps to each one, but this all depends on your amps too. i still wouldn't recommend doing it that way. but are they both 2 channels? or are they both mono?
phamsihung 3 years ago
Man you doing it the hard way.
I just tied it into the back doors.
CME911 3 years ago
this way is actually easier (in my opinion), tapping into the backdoors takes more time, plus, you have to get at the accessory wire anyways, no point in doing each back door, then going under the dash to get at the accessory, or run longer wires to reach the LOC. kill two birds with one stone by doing it all at the front, and i wanted to show how to remove the radio too
phamsihung 3 years ago
that cool
What kind of sub and amp r u runing
CME911 3 years ago
this is actually a friend's car, i threw in a small rockford amp, the p300.2, and two ten inch rockford punch HE2's (200 rms each). I'll post up my own system sometime :)
