  • god i suck at ping pong

  • @Bassisbeastiful Oh well. At least there's room for improvement :)

  • hello, would this be a valid strategy? I first use my forehand rubber(inverted) as my backhand to initiate the chopping rally then twiddle to my long pimples for BH and chop from there?

  • @aznfluteboy Yes, twiddling your paddle is definitely a valid strategy which a lot of choppers use.

  • ten ziom nie ma czopa

  • my coach keeps telling me not to use all of my arm to do a backhand chop stroke. He said only use my forehand to the chop.Is it much better to use my whole arm or just use my forearm to do the chop?

  • @jonasbrothersrulz120 For a push over the table you only need to move your forearm. For the backhand chop when you are further away from the table you can use a little bit more of your whole arm. If you watch the video though, you'll see that the forearm still does most of the work.

  • I mean like short pimples

  • @liontoxicatorR Long pimples can really help when chopping. Short pimples not as much.

  • DO PIMPLES HELP,WHEN CHOPPING ?

  • no czopem grasz świetnie powaga... ale ten drugi też ładnie ciągnie:)

  • PING PONG TALKIN BLUES 2 is now uploaded to Youtube....thanks....Dan

  • Lol I do my back hand chop different I chop the ball in front of me , But it still works

  • table tennis is more addicting than drugs

  • @majuro57 the best kind of drug

  • I'm fairly new to the sport so I just need to know a little more about how the stroke works. Will a stroke like this only work against a topspin stroke coming at you or can you use it against a backspin stroke as well? Also, does this work best if you're far away from the table only?

    Thanks!

  • @garciasteven Yeah that is right. It is to be used far away from the table against a topspin stroke. Check out our website for more lessons such as the push which is a backspin stroke used against a backspin ball close to the table.

  • Do you need long pips or anti spin rubbers on these?

  • @yobmas722 You can use either. They have slightly different effects from each other. As demonstrated you can also use normal rubber.

  • you must have a very weird rubber tyo be able to chop topspin, or alois gives not very much spin

  • wow,attack is completely defended.

  • gracias :))

  • @hamdj005 please dont insult our religion... it means alot to us. why can't you answer in a peaceful manner?

  • Wow this is such a nice stroke! I remember seeing a match where one guy kept spinning/smashing and the defender was backhand chopping the whole time, it was a very long point and its so nice to look at :P sadly enough the backhand chopper lost lol. Anyway im going to try this out soon!

  • @Survive0The0Hell sounds like a good match. It sure is a fun stroke to play the backhand chop.

  • Excellent video as always, but almost all of the great choppers of our day use pips mostly long pips on their backhand-Joo Se Hyuk, Chen Wiexing, Panagiotis Gionis, and Hou Yingchou (who uses short pips). You have to go back to Norio Takashima to find a highly rated inverted chopper who used it in his backhand. Even he used an off beat inverted rubber-Plous. Even the great Ding Song used short pips on his backhand. So I am not sure that suggesting inverted as the way to go for a chopper is ok.

  • @iandemagi It is a good point you make. The top defenders simply aren't using normal rubber for chopping anymore. In the video we suggest that you get better control when using long pimples.

Attackers can still use this chop infrequently in matches if they are forced back from the table so the demonstrations with normal rubber are more for this type of player.

  • I use long pimple and often after the match I win, my opponents calls me pussy and tell me the reason I won is because of the long pimple.

  • @freepond Well last time I checked long pimples were legal, so your opponents can say what they like. The fact is it is a legitimate way to play and if they can't beat you that is their problem. Just keep up the good work and keep beating them!

  • @pingskills yeah but im way too far from reaching to the semis/finals.. thanks though ;)

  • @freepond You're welcome. Keep enjoying your Table Tennis. Maybe one day you can reach the finals!

  • I can't really hear what they are saying due to the poor quality of my speakers. When I ask my friends how to do a backhand chop, they say to use as little strength as possible. Is this true?

  • I do this everytime I play pingpong. Im really good at it but i didn't even know I was doing a backhand chop. Just practice a bit and it becomes really fun.

  • @ItsABigFatCat Nice work. It certainly is a fun stroke.

  • is the backhand chop good defence against a topspin or a powerfull one?

    thanks in advance!

  • Hey ping skills I have a very important question that i need answered, Which rubber is best for chopping? Long pips, short pips, anti spin, or regular rubber, really looking forward to your reply and i'm thinking about being a premium member :)

  • @13CatShitOne37 Again this is a personal preference but I would go with long pimples. Most of the best choppers in the world use long pimples.

  • @13CatShitOne37 Long pips certainly, however you will need to work a lot on getting to know how to use the correctly, its very hard.

  • when i back chop or forehand chop, the ball just hits the net. why is this?

  • @azndung I'm not sure. If the ball is always hitting the net, then try aiming a bit higher. You can do this by opening up the angle of your bat or by not coming down as much.

You can always submit a question to "Ask the Coach" on our website. By doing this we can answer in more detail as we don't have the same character limit as we do for the comments here.

Good luck with your Table Tennis.

  • way better than that fucking pubic haired dude from expert village

  • Ye .It isn't easy but don't very hard .

    Excellent tutorial

  • so hard to do it i try again and again but i cant :/

  • @osdmtp1 Try focussing on the start and finish position as we mention in the video. See if you can get someone to hit a lot of balls to you so you can practice. Stick with it, it does take time to develop.

  • Why does a comment in which some guy is saying he wishes his own father to suffer for eternity, getting so many thumbs up on a table tennis video?

  • do u guys mess up

  • would it work with a 9 spin 9speed 8 control butterfly spin rubber or do i need a different rubber

  • I love to chop!

  • @2012wyvern Good to hear!

  • we must use long pimpled rubbers for chopping? other choices?

  • @pokemon17007 No you don't have to use long pimples. A lot of defensive players do though. You could use normal rubber or even anti-spin. However long pimples is the most common on the backhand for choppers.

  • I am a big table tennis fan & play it in my university club I really want such type of video I really enjoy it.

  • @Muh794 Thanks for letting me know. You can find a lot more Table Tennis videos and tips on our website. You can even subscribe to our free newsletter.

  • why is the black guy always getting used????

  • is the long pimple rubber banned now i heard something about it

  • @haylenj08 A few long pimpled rubbers were banned but there are still a lot that are legal. Rubbers need to be approved by the ITTF.

  • @pingskills thanks m8

  • @haylenj08 You're welcome!

  • @hirofuntv2 - I went to the store yesterday and unfortunately, they only have one DHS Hurricane by Wang Li Qin and a DHS Skyline by Ma Lin. I use an old Joerex bat which helped me develop my playing style. I also use Butterfly Addoy and Pan Asia. I wish to improve my spins and game so I am asking which rubber and blades are good. Thank you for your tips.

  • @hirofuntv2 - Pipped rubbers are not available here. Are there any alternatives regarding these? I use close-to-table top-spins for my attacks and chops for my defense or while I play my strategies first.

  • - I'm kinda new to Table Tennis. Is it good to chop when your bat have very little or no grip at all?

  • this technique is the specialty of joo hyuk (koreano) the number 5 in the world of table tennis, thanks for show us

  • this technique is the specialty of jose hyuk, thanks for show us

  • watch the other guy. the one feeding the ball. that's what he's doing.

  • Defense is the best!

  • @DeutscheBankAkte I play tournaments and i was given the award of best defense

  • where am I here? I thought it is a room to learn about table tennis but no, I landed in a room where they discuss about god and heaven. Funny me who was so wrong. Good luck to find out the reality when you are dead.

  • on another topic... Great video, i like the way you guys teach strokes

  • Aussie's ftw

  • however thinks hes a busterd they can rot in helll wether it exists or not

  • wow, spin against chop !

  • I have a question about you're movements.

I live in Europe and here it is teached that if you are right-handed , you're left foot always have to stand before you're right foot.

When i see you moving you're right foot is always in front. Is this because it is teached on another way in America or ...?

  • if you chop you must turn sideways to get backspin in the ball. You can't use the backhand chop if your left foot is always in front. Otherwise It will looks like the chop of Chen Weixing

  • yeah i live in australia and i got taught to play left foot in front. but i do see a lot of backhand shots played with right foot in front.

  • those are only standard ready position anyway. in game all hell breaks lose use which ever leg is more efficient

  • Ew how dare you insult these guys by calling them American, quite clearly they are Australian lol

  • i'm confused. you said left foot always have to stand before your right foot.

that's the same as right foot is always in front.

    go figure!!!

  • i came 3rd in my schools table tennis comp, it was fun!

  • haha my school has one tomorrow thats really weird.

  • congrats!

  • @criticaltinker thanks lol

  • LOL

    filmed @ MSAC

  • are they from australia ?

  • how can you say that you dick head

  • he is my dad you bastard? you wanna take on his duties?

  • where was your faggot god when the quake struck Haiti? having a nap was he?

  • heaven doesn't exist... - I promise.

  • oh and i suppose you have proof then, if you realise just what a dickhead your being then you would sort your life out, its people like you that make me appreciate my own family and life.

  • @hamdj005 give the lord a chance and visit a local church. or if u do not wish to atleast pick up a bible and read some of it. the intense passionate scriputres and writings may change ur opinion. if not well keep beliving in what u believe in. oh and btw i play j pen and is 13 years old rating is 1786 U.S rating

  • @ hamdj005 If you want to know why the tragedy in Haiti happened, then read the Scripture: the answer is in there.

and unless you have seen the light and have been filled with the spirit, you will never understand. It's the same thing as trying to explain University math to a five year old, it's pointless.

  • you are the 5 year old in this. you feel the need to fill your expendible life with the ridiculous idea that your going to live forever. ha ha.

I can't wait to try out the backhand chop. nogod.

  • wow thats unreal

  • Either of these guys ever get anywhere in the table tennis world?

  • yeah he's played internationally

    he's hard!

  • yes, olympics

  • Yeah I thought they looked pretty good!

  • Did Jeff use long pimples during this session?

  • lol! when in the red side no! When on the black side yes!

  • yeah he did

  • wow the guy in the green shirt wears the shortest shorts ever

  • Extremely Better Way To Learn

Wayyy Better Than Expert Village. ^^

  • TRU!

    ^_

  • Just watch the one on how to hit backspin.

  • could you go more in depth ie. the shoulder position and your elbow positions in forehand and backhand chops, also the different spin shot that are more defensive ie. side spin defensive shot. thanks for everything!

  • is it advisable to use chop in game, even ur not in defence mode..??

i mean,i always use chop, even im more pro than my opponent..

  • This really depends on your overall style. Attacking players would not use the chop in normal circumstances. This is mainly a stroke for defensive players or for when an attacking player is really on the back foot.

  • Totally agree with what pingskills say, but none the less, I'd day back hand chop is the 'funest' moves in ping pong

  • @arneljoseph21 what pingskills said is right. its all about style.. generally most people like to attack first and defend second, but learning to chop is always a good idea since you never know when you might need it. i'm not pro so maybe my opinion doesn't matter as much.. but i like to chop to buy myself some time and throw the attacker off a little. they'll have to switch from a distant drive to a close range push. unless they're good enough to loop.

  • When you put the rubbers onto the paddle, should they be the same? Or one smooth and one pimpled like in the video?

  • It really depends on the style of game you play. If you play defensively most of the game and chop a lot on your backhand, then long pimples are worth considering. If you don't chop very much on your backhand then I wouldn't bother with long pimples.

  • Oh okay. Thanks =D

  • where could i fnd a bat that has normal rubber and one side and pimples on the other? also that isnt that dear to buy

  • For this you will need a custom made Table Tennis bat. This is where you buy the blade separately from the rubbers. Then you can purchase a normal rubber and some long pimples. You should be able to get this from most online Table Tennis stores.

  • thanks for the advice, btw you guys are great and have helped me loads, i played with my friend today and he was blown away my my forehand smashes and flicks lol

  • Is this also called a siao??

  • It doesn't show how to chop from a chop =[. Or is that very rare and shouldn't be used? xD.

  • did you watch the whole video?

  • should i be making contact with the ball when my are is at a 90 degree angle? also should one side of my paddle be devoted to offense and the other to defense ?

  • Yes, for choppers one side is usually a smooth rubber while the other side is a long pimple rubber. the angle of the bat depends on the ammount of topspin on the ball. some long pimples are not affected by spin as much as others. but if a shot has alot of topspin, the bat must be close to a 90 degree angle but when it does not have as much topspin, you should open the bat abit more.

  • Are you guys going to make at penhold vids?

i would like if you did

  • Its not that easy to chop in the styles shown here.

Fantastic examples on how to chop in different styles.

  • i love the ping pong tips and training . keep up the good work.

  • very useful video. Thanks alot!

  • jejee man im a player whit a long pipes ruber (feint long 2)

i like ur style but not its the beter u have to atack

  • I'm an all around player, and I use chop rather than looping. I was thinking of buying the pre-assemble timo boll racket. What other rackets do you recommend?

  • hey, since u r an all round player i had a query. How do u return a chop drop shot on either side, u cant top spin it since its not bouncing high and u cant do a conventional chop like this vid or the forehand vid since the ball is going to fall short on the table and bounce twice before coming towards the start position for this shot

  • you just use the push=) which gives you no spin or backspin

  • that's a great skill !

  • very useful for defense!

Slows down aggresive players attacking pace

    LOVE IT

  • i'm definitely a beginner to table tennis but i tend to be somewhat of an aggressive player. would you recommend the long pimple rubber or the inverted rubber ?

  • I would recommend a normal inverted rubber especially considering you are an aggressive player. I think it is also a good choice for beginners to learn how to spin the ball and control spin. Long pimples are far more suited to defensive players.

  • @pingskills: Is it good if you are an all-around player? Defensive and offensive? I was thinking, if you have more weapons the better, right? thanks!

  • still having trouble with this one

  • My style of playing is top spin forehand and slice in backhand D:

  • mine too and i am also southpaw witch makes it even more ackward for my oponents :D

  • I love using this technique.

Specially vs people who don't play much xD

  • i'm british, but i play with the penholder style, will these shots and all your other tips still work or should i do them a different way, please reply.

  • Chopping is very difficult using the penhold grip. The principles are the same for most other strokes. If you have any Table Tennis questions then try out the Ask the Coach section of our website.

  • it's unheard of. impossible.

  • i wouldn't say it's impossible, just that there are very few players that would make the chop their primary shot with penhold. Even Ma Lin has been known to chop when he's in a tough spot and needs to slow down the pace.

  • Wouw... What really amazes me in this video are Alois' forehand topspins against that heavy backspin! Amazing consistency!

  • Nice Vid, but, I have a question... how can you smash it if it is choped??

  • You need to play a forehand topspin against backspin. We have a video on that too. Take a look at our website or have a look on our channel.

  • the shots are high...

  • i own that shot lol its a good shot 2 use

  • i play long-pips on backhand and cobra ultra 2000 in forehand

  • Nice man, that's awesome!

  • you briefly mentioned paddles, is there like a good generic paddle that you can recommend. I'm not a pro, a good balanced paddle would be good

  • There are literally thousands of different types of bats available. As long as you choose reputable Table Tennis brand you cannot go wrong. For people starting out we have 3 premade bats on our website that we recommend. We will soon be adding some custom bats to our website for those looking to upgrade to a more professional bat.

If you have any other Table Tennis questions then try out the Ask the Coach section of our website. We even have an RSS feed so you can stay up to date.

  • i'm using some butterfly paddle, but for some reason my serve just isn't nearly as good as yours demonstrated in your videos. Is butterfly a good table tennis brand?

  • Butterfly is a really good Table Tennis brand. The rubbers will eventually wear out though and depending on how often you play, you will need to replace them over time.

Take a look through some of the questions on our Ask the Coach section of our website. We talk about how to generate more spin on your serve. You could also purchase our DVD Serving Secrets Revealed where we go into great detail about how to develop your serve.

  • what brand do you use?

  • I'm using a Butterfly Primorac OFF- blade with Butterfly Tenergy 05 rubbers.

  • how do you know when you should start using blades and rubber combinations as opposed to a pre-made bat?

  • If you start playing at a Table Tennis club and start playing a few times a week, then I would recommend getting a custom bat. This way you get a good blade which will last you for years and change your rubbers as often as needed.

Remember if you have any questions then try out the Ask the Coach section of our website. There are heaps of questions there and we even have an RSS feed so you can stay up to date.

  • @pingskills funny coz it's almost the same as my wife's paddle. She has Primorac-2000 AN off+ with cermet and tenergy 05. I have Timo Boll ALC with Tenergy 64(forehand) and Tenergy 05(backhand) both 1.9 thick.

  • Is he changing the angle of his paddle when he slices?
