I've finally found the name of it and the artist after 9 years---been searchin so long for it. You gotta see the show, it's about a young couple , one of whom is murdered.The song fits tight as a glove.Long live Berry ,Strummer, Lennon and rock and roll !!
Oh, wow; I used to love that show, and didn't catch that!---I might not have heard of Holly then....anyway, I always thought it was a travesty that Homicide never got the Emmy, it was so great. I still wonder if it was petty jealousy, the TV folks not wanting to give THEIR award to a moviemaker (Barry Levinson) who unlike them could win an Oscar [bigger whoop than an Emmy by several orders of magnitude] some day.
nobody sings like Holly. NOBODY. I'll listen to her over Diana anyday...she has more feeling to her voice as far as I'm concerned. I never understood why she didn't shoot to the top the way Diana Krall did - she deserved more credit for her talent than she's received thus far.
I remember the first time I heard this song...haunting. The feeling of despair and the desperate need to have someone love and take care of you in your darkest moments...I completely realte. Great song..
This and "I Told Him My Dog Wouldn't Run" are my faves from Dark, Dear Heart. But I like the album version better. But I really like the arrangements on this. The video is so beautiful!

I first heard this tune (written by Laura Harding and Aaron Davis) on Holly's 1997 album "Dark Dear Heart" (a personal fave, great collection of introspective songs that get ya right *there*). Laura Harding also had a hand in my favorite track off the album, "Onion Girl". Not that anybody asked, but there ya go :-) Thanks for the terrif upload!
This is a beautiful song, but I'd really like to find the acoustic version, with just piano, bass and drums. This version has too much stuff in it, I'd say.
This is one of the most tranquil love songs I have heard, absolutely love it :)

Just off the top of my head, here are some differences in the 'Dark Dear Heart' version:
--It doesn't have the high harmonica part at the beginning
--It's more straight singing; Holly sticks closer to the melody and rhythm
--In this one she says "Should I lay my head..." and on DDH she says "Could I," which I think is the correct/better lyric
--There is no background vocal (as at1:48-2:10)
--She sings more quietly, not in volume only, but in feeling too
Overall I prefer the DDH one.
