Ariamaluum, I do not believe that at all. You do not get to win over 30 title in men's tour without being able to hold own serves. Actually Edberg did not play well in 92 open especially compared previous year, but it was a pure display of what a top notch player is capable of even without playing his best. Lendl, Chang, Pete are not well known for chocking. Their 5th set record is probably superior to Roger federer. Edberg made them choke by keep attacking the net.
There are a lot of people who say that this match was not a classic at all, because the standard of play was so low with so many unforced errors. But actually, if you look at the stats, you will find 67 UE by Edberg and maybe around 40 made by Chang. Considering the length of this match these numbers are relatively low and I think furthermore that the contrast of styles and also some remarkable volleys by Edberg and some gets by Chang make this match very recommendable.
By the way, Stefan Edberg had 254 (!) trips to the net in this famous 5 1/2 hour five-setter of the US Open 1992 against Chang. You won't find anything like that anymore today. Nowadays with the absence of serve & volley players 50 approaches to the net are considered a lot in a five-set-match!
if you wanna dissect edberg games, hes weakness is his 4hand. He disguised it well, but if you play with it, im sure it will collapse under pressure.
