@mtbxcfreak The book is worth buying for the backing tracks alone! The tabs are REALLY good, maybe a mistake or two (with some legato or hammer-on parts), but otherwise spot on! Keep the music alive ;)
@samoanbigboii Sorry, it's in a book. But you can find some decent ones on the net. Get one, listen to the original, correct the tab and practice - a great way to learn!
@54ACKO54 it's from the book "Jam With Carlos Santana". But I recommend listening and playing with the original record - it's the best way to learn it.
@Rodrigo3141 Sorry, I don't have the tabs for this; but search the internet, there are many tabs out there. For incorrect tabs, correct them yourself, that way you will learn a whole lot. And listen to the original recording as much as possible, especially the little nuances in Santana's playing.
About my vid - around the third minute I gett off beat, cause it was quite hard for me to hear the backing track, but then it gets back on track. But for everything else - listen to the original. It's meant to be played that way. Santana rushes certain phrases, other times his delivery is lazy and relaxed. It's a matter of taste, phrasing and character. Watch some of his live concerts, especially aroung 87-92 (his best Europa renditions in my opinion come from those tours).
I had no compressor running - my complete setup is posted in video description. It's the bad mic on the cell cam. I have a webcam now, my later videos are of better quality. BTW, checked out your sweep picking - NICE!!!
I can read notes for piano really good (I played for 6 years and am now relearning how to play it), but I read notes for guitar REALLY slowly, so I use mostly tab. But the best way to capture the feel of the original is to listen and work it out (never rely completely on tabs, even guitar magazines get it wrong sometimes). Greets!
Everything I used is in video description - only a Boss delay and that's it. See my Samba Pa Ti comment section, where I explain how I got the tone. Greets!
I have an Epiphone Les Paul. Just about any solidbody with a bit more weight and two humbuckers is pretty good for Santana style of music. An Epiphone SG, Les Paul, Yamaha SG, Ibanez ARC, Yamaha AES etc. will get you in the ballpark (well, considering that you're running a tight budget). The rest is in the tone (check for the Santana tone guide on the Samba Pa Ti video I made, I get into the details in the comments on the vid).
Took me a week to learn the notes and how to play them in the right sequence. But it took me 2-3 months of listening to the original and getting the nuances to sound somewhat close to the original (don't worry, I wasn't drilling this exclusively for 3 months, I played a whole lot of other stuff inbetween). But I learned this when I was really beginning to learn how to play so...
You dont know much about Santana. He didnt rip it off them. Carlos made this song in the 60's it was until the 70's he released it. Santana is a old band so other people use his stuff. Nice cover.
Not to step on any toes, but Los Angeles Negros released Y Volvere in 1970, Santana wrote Europa with his keyboardist in 1975 (according to Santana interviews) in 1975. Santana's "inspiration" is obvious, but he made this song his own (just like he did with Peter Green's 'Black Magic Woman'). So in the end, Europa is IMHO still one of the greatest guitar instrumentals ever.
Are you sure? at first he didn't name it Europa. Until the Earth,Fire and wind tour in Europe where he decide to play it for the first time. Well doesn't matter. Is the a Epiphone LP Standard?
men great tone, great feeling, too bad the mic couldn't get more of the great sound you was playing... but 5/5 men...
I read your description about the video and I saw that you have the backing track... is there any chance to get it from you?? I mean can you send it to me please?? I'd really apreciate your answer...

I think Santana originally used either a Leslie rotary speaker or a chorus pedal, I'm not sure. I used the modulation mode on my DD-20 GigaDelay Boss pedal, but it's obviously not the same as the original recording. A tremolo or vibrato effect pedal might also do the trick.
