Ok everyone loves to pick on this man. I agree that he is not ready for a title match yet but hell he is really young. I am a huge fan and can not wait to see him progress through this sport. Just because he is tall does not make him a muntant or freak. He does not have an unfair advantage since he does not have the longest reach. Sure he's not the best fighter out there but he seems like a good guy and clearly has lots of talent. The best thing about him is his fights are almost always entertaining which makes him one of my favourites.
he's only 23 so he just stopped growing about 3 years ago so now he can gain more weight, i think once he gets a little bit older he might have a chance for a title shot.

@jimmicrackhead12 Indeed steroids are very illigal in the UFC luckyly. Steroids are just a stupid way to grow muscles too. If Struve gets to 270 lbs he'll already weigh more than any other fighter in the UFC. He'll probably get to 280 or 290 if does some power training. In about a year or so he'll be pretty much unstoppable. His only problem is against heavy hitters, so he should taken them down asap.
It's not about countries. Let's put it this way..All we see in europe is ufc and similar contact sports. Outside of the US the american fighters struggle to keep up with european fighters. Especially in K-1! And I get that UFC is something totally different but for me it's like watching a barfight, it's entertaining but I can't see it as a sport. And what I'm saying about the kicking is, is that american fighters usually forget to optimize all their weapons! Not trying to insult anybody!
As for Struve I love this kid. His kickboxing is not on the same level as the Dutch K1 fighters, he wouldn't be able to keep up with them. Like he said before I don't have the talent to be the best K1 fighter that's why I choose MMA. He's only 22 & he makes a lot of progress every year. He killed trashtalker McCorkle, was very nice. xD

You're right, he turned 21 three days before he fought JDS. Still a very young fighter. At that age it's almost impossible to compete with the best in the HW or LHW division. He still needed to develop in so many areas. Same goes for JDS, he's not the same fighter as he was 3 years ago now was he? Most are at their prime at the age around the 30.

Struve needs to put on some more muscle- he could easy push the 265 limit by adding only 20lbs, so he will still be lean and fight as usual. It would give his stand up more strength, and then he can put in bigger power into his kicks and punches

Stefan Struve is now on of my top 5 favorite Heavyweight fighters.....Tonight at UFC 117 he had a great come back after being dominated and beaten in the first round...He came back in the 2nd round and started throwing punches and got the KO...What a beast

Height is actually useful EXCEPT in infighting. Shorter guys at a given weight class have more fast twitch muscle fibers, so there hooks and uppercuts in close will domilish a lankier guy who gets careless and lets them in. A shorter guy like Shane or Brock would easily break Struve's ribs, if they so desired.
To reiterate my point, this guy needs to bulk up. He's tall for the division but not "big"
if he really improved his boxing abilites he would be unbelievabe.. height is a really big advantage if you know how to use it. more places to move you head. longer reach. longer arms meaning more power at the end of your punchs. needs to really torque his body with his punchs and he can dominate other stand up people.

Struve NEEDS to be AT 265 lbs. he's 6'11" and 247 is just way too LOW for his height lesnar is 6'3" and he's a 265 lbs. so can Stefan. Sure, Struve is a bit weaker than the 265pound 6'3" monsters, but he's can still grow like 30 pounds or so. Apart from that he's got a huge height+reach advantage and very big legs opening up many new options on the ground in both defence and offense. That's what makes mma so interesting, height has pro's and cons when both fighers are maxed out in weight
It's interesting. I wish him all the best, it's time for the Netherlands not to only dominate kickboxing (k1 etc.) but gain some ground @ mma
@kentbrockton i dont think that this will be a stand up battle because nelson is smart and knows struve has him in reach and struve has longer arms and legs so he can get submitions in situations most cant like kendal grove thats just my opinion though you do make good points

I question his chin; I mean he got rocked in the Dos Santos fight and in the Denis fight (not even going to both to attempt to spell his last name). He's got heart; he showed that in the Buentello fight but I don't know if he's got all that great of a chin. Kind reminds of Arlovski a bit in the fact that he's pretty physically talented but can't take much of a punch.

Dana says he is in the mix, and although Stefan has room to grow, i think he can hold his own against the top guys right now.

Struve needs to put on some more muscle- he could easy push the 265 limit by adding only 20lbs, so he will still be lean and fight as usual. It would give his stand up more strength, and then he can put in bigger power into his kicks and punches

@TheSupermanspence Well I have to agree with you, if he continues to take a pounding in his fights he won't last long, hopefully this won't be the case. But the kid is tough and determined which are great qualities you have to admit. Also if he gets taken down that really isn't a problem for him, he is excellent on his back, and now he is working on striking I think in about another year provided he keeps himself from gettin rocked he will do quite well

Height is actually useful EXCEPT in infighting. Shorter guys at a given weight class have more fast twitch muscle fibers, so there hooks and uppercuts in close will domilish a lankier guy who gets careless and lets them in. A shorter guy like Shane or Brock would easily break Struve's ribs, if they so desired.
To reiterate my point, this guy needs to bulk up. He's tall for the division but not "big"

if he really improved his boxing abilites he would be unbelievabe.. height is a really big advantage if you know how to use it. more places to move you head. longer reach. longer arms meaning more power at the end of your punchs. needs to really torque his body with his punchs and he can dominate other stand up people.

Struve NEEDS to be AT 265 lbs. he's 6'11" and 247 is just way too LOW for his height lesnar is 6'3" and he's a 265 lbs. so can Stefan. Sure, Struve is a bit weaker than the 265pound 6'3" monsters, but he's can still grow like 30 pounds or so. Apart from that he's got a huge height+reach advantage and very big legs opening up many new options on the ground in both defence and offense. That's what makes mma so interesting, height has pro's and cons when both fighers are maxed out in weight
It's interesting. I wish him all the best, it's time for the Netherlands not to only dominate kickboxing (k1 etc.) but gain some ground @ mma

I question his chin; I mean he got rocked in the Dos Santos fight and in the Denis fight (not even going to both to attempt to spell his last name). He's got heart; he showed that in the Buentello fight but I don't know if he's got all that great of a chin. Kind reminds of Arlovski a bit in the fact that he's pretty physically talented but can't take much of a punch.
