She now keeps in contact with people from her old life, but for the longest time it was just her and my dad (soon followed by me and my siblings). My dad was worth the risk my mom took, and it all worked out. As is my husband. He's the only one I ever considered uprooting completely from the small town life, and moving into a big city where I knew noone but him. A big city, 2.5 hours away, and notorious for crime. Sure, at times I miss living within walking distance of my parents, and the cozy feel of a small town...but I have grown to love it here as well. It's nice to have a lot more places to shop, eat, walk and just go see!
