It won't be easy, I met a few people from the UK who came out for Dr. Who and Torchwood stuff. You just have to save up and be committed to come out for SDCC.
I don't consider Preview Night a full day of Comic-Con since the convention is not open the whole day like how other conventions have "day-before" activities.
What's fun about comic con is that when you have a four day pass (or any on that day), you're more than welcome to walk in those panels free, just as long as you beat the crowd due to room capacity. :P And yeah people who wait last min. in line for a pass to get in Comic Con do wait all day. I've seen the line go as long from 6am till 2pm.

That's why you got to plan your day during SDCC. What's even crazy were the people who sleep overnight for the line to go into Hall H.

Hey, from what I heard the earlier the better. People actually stay in line through out the whole day just to get a ticket.
