  • Outstanding songwriter and singer. Only seen her once back in the 1990's when she was performing at a venue in Pasadena, California. Her voice is so good!

  • Thank you Ms. Wheeler for sharing your talent with the world! Switch Northern for Southern, though...I'm in Alaska :)

  • thank you tony and cheryl! cheryl, i met you in february in covington, kentucky. you gave me your autograph and sang "northern girl" for me when you asked the audience what song they wanted to hear. i framed your autograph, have your "different stripe" c.d. and you are my favorite female vocalist of all time. nobody tops your excellence. by the time i'm through riding around richmond, kentucky everyone in town will know your songs because that's all i play! thanks again~ penny

  • She needs to tour with Jann Arden, boy two of the best on stage personalities around today.

  • Pretty song.even though shes singing Northen girl ,.is make me home sick for the hills,.Every time I hear it!...love her music!!..just cant get enough of her beautiful voice,..and style!

  • Wow what a voice ! Just close my eyes and I see angelic faces everywhere ! Sheer genius this lady !

  • @AJBluesman

    She's great.

She used to visit my adult book store whenever she came thru town

sold her many strap-ons over the years!

  • @jojojigaboo Is she a lesbian ?

  • @AJBluesman

    yeah. she's married now.

Nice woman, but she can get a bit raunchy off stage !

  • @jojojigaboo Well that's her personal thing ! Can't comment on her sexuality...Musically gifted people are on the high side when it comes to sex, thats what I have observed Lol !

  • Is Maryland really the North?

  • @VASINGER That depends on how you look at it...I have a friend from Texas who calls folks from Oklahoma "yankees" :-) Seriously though, she is singing about being homesick for Maryland (in the south) while traveling in New England "It took a New England sky to teach me how to say, I ain't no northern girl, I been too long away" , and then she describes Maryland with such love she could be a one woman Maryland tourist department, she makes me want to go Baltimore, Annapolis, the coast :-)

  • @gurlsingerfan yes, thanks. I wasn't tuning into the lyrics as I should have been.

  • @VASINGER She sings she ain't no northern girl, she's been too long away.

  • Cheryl with Mark Oconnor and Michael Johnson..Don't get any better

  • Que bien canta y que grandes musicos son todos

  • I just wonder why she sings "I ain't no nothern girl I've been too long away." She actually moved farther north to MA, so she would be more of a northern girl.

  • This song should be called home or goung home.

  • I love these heartfelt songs that Cheryl sings..what a truely beautiful song this one is that paints a picture of this Northern town. What a beautiful voice Cheryl has and it magnificently has you drawn in to each and every word.

Thank you for posting this from all of Cheryl's fans.

  • Cheryl is such a gifted singer/songwriter. I've loved her music for years and have had the great pleasure of seeing her in concert many times in Cambridge. I agree wirye, Cheryl is awesome!

  • I just found about Cheryl today. I was looking up the song "Addicted" by Dan Seals and found the video of her singing with DS.

What a treat to see Michael Johnson (one of my favs) performing with her.

  • i loove her music

  • Shes is awesome!

  • I love her music ... I think this is my favorite of all her songs. Have been listening to her since the 1980s when they played her stuff a lot on Boston's WUMB folk radio station.

  • What a fantastic surprise to hear - and see - Cheryl sing with Michael Johnson and be backed by a full band of incredible musicians ... Mark O'Connor, Harry Stinson, etc. Thanks for posting Tony! Great for everyone who missed these spectacular performances on American Music Shop ...

  • One of my heroes. Nobody writes and performs like this lady. I thank God for Cheryl Wheeler.

  • I've been a huge fan of hers since 1997, as of yet I have never seen her live but from ALL accounts I will not be dissapointed. She is so underated as both a singer and of course a songwriter, I know she is well known and respected as such but everybody in this country should know her name....she is a gem.

    Peace

  • see her perform live if you can. not only does she sing beautifully but she's very funny and humble about herself. one minute you're crying next minute laughing. i can't say enough about her in concert.

  • This song never got the airplay it really truly desrved ...it is a masterpiece. I am transposing it to the male voice ,,,,have had to move the capo up a few places in order for me to sing it properly

[ I have a deep voice ] but it is turning out beautifully ... I hope it gets more recogition

from this point of view . just think of this song, sung with the deep voice of tom rush ,,,,or gordon lightfoot ,,,cheryl would be a millonaire !!!!!!

  • it's northern GIRl, though...

  • But it would be quite simple to sing it "northern boy"...wrap your mind around it ...it works

    Mike

  • Does Cheryl ever come to Colorado...I would love to see here live.

  • We see Cheryl almost every year at the Ramshead, in Annapolis, Md. The entire audience probably only has a couple of hundred people and is very intimate. If you get a chance to see her in such an informal atmosphere, you should do it. It's great and she's great!

  • How have I lived before hearing her?

  • First heard Cheryl at a small folk festival in 94, sittin on the grass in front of a UW-La Crosse lecture hall, she came out sassy and sharp like somebody's kid sister...then blew us away with "Howl at the Moon"

  • Yup. It was Cheryl who wrote the Suzy Bogguss classic 'Aces'

That was where I first discivered her - (i always read songwriter credits and google them lol)

    This song is awesome...

was one of my songs when I moved away to uni, then when i came home....along with Suzy's 'Letting go' and so mnay others - Dixie chicks 'wide open spaces' the wilkinsons, Patty Loveless, ......

  • Damm, What a voice!!!!!!

  • I cannot BELIEVE I had not heard of Cheryl until today. What a find ! Thanks, Tony, Thanks, Horus !! :)

  • I can't imagine what it would like be to be in her shoes here . I am a man . I only know that she has such understanding of the guitar and walk downs ...imagine having Michael ,,Jerry and mark behind me ,,,and still she SHINES !! thank you , so much Mike in N.H.

  • Tony - thanks for putting these out here - she totally rocks! Jamie L. in Towson, MD (near Timonium) :)
