Famous Blue Raincoat is the 6th album by Jennifer Warnes. It debuted on the Billboard 200 on February 14, 1987 and peaked at #. 72. Originally released by Cypress Records, it was reissued by Private Music after Cypress went out of business. Released in January 1987, Famous Blue Raincoat is a tribute to Leonard Cohen, with whom Warnes had toured as a backup singer in the 1970s. The album's songs span much of Cohen's career, from his 1969 album Songs from a Room to his 1984 album Various Positions
Good video except I was sad to see it cut off the song. My favorite line is "Thanks for the trouble you took for her eyes, I thought it was there for good, so I never tried."
What really happened the evening of May 24,2005? Was Travis killed? or do I believe it was suicide? I think he was murdered and you will be held accountable for his death!!
wow, i have i tear in my eye. I can honestly say that my life was altered with Leonard Cohen's words and often by his cynicism on love and life. I am glad to have known his music, and often find myself frustraded when people don't know who he is. we need to keep his memory alive!
I know, haha, reading my comment I can see how it comes across like that. But when i mean "his memory" I just mean he is one of the forgotten artists from the 70's and 80's. I want to go watch his show in Boston..

danyel. we miss you. we don't blame you for Trav's suicide. It must have been so awful that night when you came home and found him dead. I am so sorry
Check out Cliff Le Jeune's live performance of this and a few other Cohen songs... you may not have heard of him because he is an actor from the east coast of Canada but I heard Cohen sent him a present after he heard his disc!
an unusual and deeply felt reading....too bad the lyrics are less clear than other readings since, well, cohen is a poet after all, who figured out how to popularize his poetry in song. (or returned to the ancient tradition of the troubadours actually)
This has been one of my all time favorite songs for many many many.. many years. I love the video and I love what Tori Amos does with it. So what album is this from? There is actually an album of Leonard Cohen cover songs that I DON'T HAVE!!
inconstanti, we don't call people ass other then to their faces. Crass. The cover is in fact quite strong and included on a CD of Cohen's covers alongside with some big shots. It's hard to take anything much father than Cohen's taken it. So what!?
What an ass. You actually SHOULD do covers because you like the song. Why would you do them if you didnt like it? This song by the way, never appeared in a Tori Amos album, but on a record of Cohen's covered songs. He chose them himself so what can you possible say about being a good or bad cover.
this cover isnt very good. its so obvious and pointless. she doesnt bring the song anywhere further than Cohen, which in my opinion is what covers should be about if you're goin to release them. you shouldnt do covers just cause you like the song, but hey its the easy way to fill up an album or a concert.
I follow your point. Quite easy to take one of the best song of cohen and say "wow! what a feeling!" Unfortunately, the voice is so tortured, as always by her anyway, and make it sound quite unbearable; reminds me an advertisement for cats food (sheba maybe) The best covers of cohen are to be found on "i'm your fan". Not all of them but still.
Also, Cohen isn't even American, so why did that poster implicitly insult Americans by saying that the only reason why someone would defend Cohen would be if that person were American. Again, this is a great cover, but it just bothers some of us that Cohen isn't getting his due; he should be credited, that's all.
No one bashed Tori until someone overreacted and called someone else a "fucking retard" with "shit in [his] mouth" simply because that person had said Tori couldn't have written this song. I love both Tori and Leonard and I think this is a great cover, but people are entitled to the opinion that, even though Tori is good, Leonard was a much better songwriter than Tori. I certainly don't think Tori is bad in any way, but Leonard is in a class by himself.
your a fucking retard! Your probably American, how could you say she couldn't write such a thing, she has written music that has touched and helped people all over the world. Keep your shit in your mouth, thanx babe!
Oh look....a slavering Tori Amos fan. Between her and the golden girls, they have the confused and awkward teen female market shored up. Tori Amos could like a thousand lifetimes and still come nowhere NEAR the talent and poetry of Leonard Cohen. That's why she's performing his music, not vice versa.
I'm a very big fan of Leonard Cohen's peotry and music. But you have to understand that Tori really does move and help a lot of people through her music, she's an artist as is he, why are you watching her video if you disagree so?
Amos performs various artist's songs. Infact, you never know what she will play at a concert. Her covers exist because she loves and respects the tune and loves and respects music.
The "song is" Tori Amos COVERING Leonard Cohen's famous Blue Raincoat. The original is far better than cornflake girls, but if you have to use a cover at least credit Lenny.
