i miss sp. i lived in the airforce housing on 25th st( i think it was)..up near the navy housing. i loved playing around the old WW2 gun emplacements.
Anyone know where Dennison Ave. is? I was born in San Pedro in 1966 and left for Philadelphia in 1971. My folks were East Coasters and I guess I am too having grown up in Philly. My Mom was a bit of a cultural snob about CA in general and my Dad loved it but threatened a divorce if we didn't move back East.
Our little house was on Dennison (Denison?) Ave. near the beach and I remember it well. Riding my Big Wheel around the block... I also remember lots of neon signs on the major boulevards
all you people talking your shit. Pedro didnt want your ass thats why it was so cruel to you. bahahaha DRO city is the shit. I was born and raised here. I love it here. You have everything you need in my city. Great places to hang out. Good food. Good people. Shopping areas. It's great. Fuck off if you don't like it!!!!
I used to live in San Pedro around Gaffey...moved out. It's a shithole down there. But there's many great places in San Pedro up above Gaffey or in the higher numbered streets.
It's pretty safe, never been messed with by anyone. I've lived in 'good' neighborhoods that were more hostile . Downtown near the water, lots of people look homeless, strung out, tweeking, etc. Like a toilet to outsiders, don't blame them for wanting to stay away.
@herpaderp1000 wtf san pedro is safe as shit lol, it has its problems but its not exactly a South Central or Eastside Long Beach, i lived there a year ago its actually very safe
I loved this video. I came here 9 years ago and love it. I have heard once you come, you never leave. I understand why.
For all the bashers out there. At times it can be weird and scary here. But in truth that would be most places. Stop looking for the bad and enjoy the good. This is a wonderful city!
@herpaderp1000 certain parts are dirty and unsafe, just like any city in any part of california. everywhere u live there are either mexican, black or white dudes up to no good. so bad mouth san pedro all you want but the o.c. is dirty too. torrance is also very dirty in some areas.
It's nonsense to claim that San Pedro is less than perfectly safe. In addition to a regular L.A. Police presence, there are also independent security forces patrolling the downtown business district . Any improvements to be made need to be made in the national economy - When that improves, so will Pedro.
Yep, any posting about San Pedro crime or graffiti always attracts a few comments from people who bash SP for the sake of bashing it. They either make up lies about it, or just say it sucks with no substantiation. Graffiti: when did u last see any in downtown San Pedro? Too many people are living in the past, before it got cleaned up, trees trimmed, etc. Anyway they can cling to their illusions about an unpleasant San Pedro; - who cares? The rest of us know the truth... How? We look around us.
What high standards you have! We should all be lucky to be part of a wealthy community with private patrols boasting a zero crime rate. Truth is, no urban city is exempt from shady bits and to judge the whole of San Pedro, home to many more peaceful middle and upper class neighborhoods than not, is both cavalier and offensive. It also affects good people who have invested businesses in the community and who must deal with unfair misconceptions. These people deserve a more balanced opinion.
Sad that the same 10 people always seem to find the posts on San Pedro and yes #2047utube, I agree. The easiest job I have is to bring anyone here, because the stuff they hear is so far from reality they are amazed. All cities have crime, but SP is statistically lower than many other parts of Los Angeles. i.e. 8 property crimes reported this month - for a city of 85,000 people. Not perfect, but I suspect complainers ARE the problem. Best move to a gated community somewhere.
Dirty and not really safe? Ridiculous and not true - San Pedro is actually a lot of things, and many of them spectacular and beautiful. It's also a city with urban, suburban and residential areas. Rich, poor, middle class, it's all San Pedro. Don't believe anyone who tells you their little block perspective makes up an entire city.
@veewat I was born and raised in Pedro but now live in Houston TX and I just visited 2 years ago and it is still my favorite city and I have to agree with the comment on their Lil block perspective. In fact San Pedro has been known for years as LA's best kept secret...Everyone I know from Pedro has always had that PEDRO PRIDE...
I've lived in this town my whole 28 years of life and can't wait to get the F***K out! These days Pedro isn't any safer, cleaner. Maybe just a tad bit better-looking. I do love the history of this town. I live down the street from one of San Pedro's oldest graveyards dating back from 1800. But thats all that really interesting in this town. Not much.
come on military city gay calm down bang bang why u say that uz a hoe lol must be oh forgive SD or havin class n hard workin people oh and for havn clean air if it wasnt for SD's bay and great scence of living SOUTHERN CA would just be trash so sorry we make up for LA's poverty and lower way of life
Facinating! It's good to see someone make a historically valuable video. Please provide more if you can. Would like to see a view from west side of Palos Verde hill, where I lived when I was 5-7 years old. I went to Miralest school. If you know that place, a video or stills would be interesting.
dude this made me so damn happy i miss pedro so fucken much had to move to gay ass hesperia where the fucken weather suxs ass everyday, but dude love the vid, so bad ass, its crazy to see like all the sailors in the shot at wats now called ports o call pretty crazy to see all those old pix never knew there was pix out there of the old pedro

@veewat yeah, well, even though Pedro has improved, the shady elements of the "city" really lowers its overall standards.
