This is really disconcerting. This fellow, Geoffrey Simmons, writes books critical of evolutionary theory, and yet he seems woefully ignorant of the latest developments. His knowledge of the current state of paleontology is especially atrocious, given that he seems to be under the impression that there's little or no evidence for the evolution of whales, when in fact the past 30 years have given us a wealth of fossils that describe whale evolution quite well.
"It's beyond my comprehension". Simmons admits that he doesn't understand how basic biology. Since he doesn't understand it (the details are too difficult from him), it is natural to "make up a solution", that if a designer. ...but there is no evidence of a designer, and there is massive amounts of evidence and explained mechanisma for evolution.
The sad thing is the intelligent design people come to the table with absolutely NOTHING. THEN a person who has devoted their life to studying evolution comes with TONS of evidence and has to listen to the same crappy arguments. Well people have done plenty of experiments where they put an eye patch on a newborn monkey and the pruning does not occur. This shows that the activation of certain neurons activated by light keeps them alive, leads to pruning of those not activated by light, and thus its a trial and error process. It's even more frustrating because that's exactly what science does already. Every scientific theory is under tremendous scrutiny every second of it's existence from all corners of the world and, as is usual, the theists claim that there's some sort of global conspiracy of scientists to obscure (their) Holy Truth in order to push some sort of satanic global scientific agenda...

This is just amazing, Pz Myers is a developmental neurobiologist, the exact place where simmons is making his nutbar/crackpot claims.
Simmons has memorized statistics about the brain but has no comprehensive knowledge about how it works. I suspect that Dr.Simmons is a doctor from St.Diploma-Mill medical School at Xerox University.
Holy shit! We need to study the development of testicles in Geoffrey simmons because his gigantic balls are drawing resources away from his brain for their growth.

Indeed, what a scientific theory is still seems to elude him even though he some how got into the medical profession.... supposedly.
Also, the process of fossil formation and the decomposition of tissues seems to escape his grasp as well. I don't think I'd want him as a doctor (of any sort).
He needs to observe something decomposing over time, then maybe he will grasp the reason there isn't a fossil for every danged thing that ever lived and died on this planet.

regarding synaptic pruning which they talk about, Simmons says "how do you know that the pruning is conducted by trial and error and not design"? Well people have done plenty of experiments where they put an eye patch on a newborn monkey and the pruning does not occur. This shows that the activation of certain neurons activated by light keeps them alive, leads to pruning of those not activated by light, and thus its a trial and error process. Simmons a obviously a moron.

Simmons loves the argument from incredulity (I find it hard to believe, therefore it can't be true), which is, of course, a stupid way to argue. But hey, he's a creationist, what do you expect?

If that's the case, all atheists should accept the Bible and all Christians should accept that there is no "God" - because it's so difficult for each of them to believe they both must be true. Brilliant! Simmons is not making the argument for creationism. He is simply not convinced of the conclusions put forth by the theory evolution. And evolutionists say Christians are gullible... :O
