the new vocalist is doing an ok job but hearing derek singing this gives me goosebumps even with this live recording. i really wish he didn't have to bounce he completes this band vocally
haha i dont know if anyone noticed that kenee played the solo wrong, hahaha i think he was drunk or something hahaha actually he makes mistakes frecuentjy when he plays his solos
i love people slaggin off drummers. he couldn't keep up, he wasn't fast enough. he only had one style. FUCK OFFF...........JUST FUCK OFF NO ONE CARES!
@mikebaldy16 Their drummer is great dude, they wouldn't replace Nick fucking Pierce with a piece of shit, there are alot of factors that can make the drummer fuck up live, go to Sickdrummer and watch Lyle Cooper slay a couple of songs on their, hes great trust me.
@mikebaldy16 Are you completely retarded his blasts are perfectly on time throughout that entire part it may sound off to you because of the china hits he throws in between but I assure you he is on time
@lookralphsbak ok just to get this straight the line up is michael keene- guitar, lyle cooper-drums, geoff ficco-vocals, steve jones-guitar, and even brewer-bass right?
Mikael Keene said himself that Akeldama was poorly structured, but its alla amazing cuz its all THE FACELESS! Mikael mixes the albums himself in his studio and he strives for perfection, so you can bet that the albums sound exactly the way wants them too. Both albums have their ups- no downs.
And they've gone through like, 5 drummers or something, probably because Mikael Keene is a perfectionist and would drive any drummer crazy!
One of my favourite bands- i'm too excited for their new album :D
@mikebaldy16 dude, lyle cooper is so much fucking better than nick pierce. Nick pierce in my "opinion" couldn't keep up or even give it the sound that their music has progressed to which they obviously like. And there is definitely nothing wrong with the timing of his blast beats.
haha u guys are high lyle cooper is fuckin sick as fuck at drumming. keene is dope at guitar new album is gonna be sick this songs sick hahaha just needa all get ur shit straight if u got shit to talk.
Alot of people seem to forget that while lord Marco toured with then during the akeldama days aha that Elliot sellers was their first drummer who did their origional recordings
Yea i dont understand people who cant see planetary duality as the best possible progression from this band. Its litteraly a masterpiece. Akeldama is too, but planetary duality is much more mature in every aspect
@mikebaldy16 Nick Pierce did not play every song in Akeldama. They had a collection of drummers either playing one track or more. Navene Koperweis is the drummer on two tracks and Brett Batdorf plays drums in An Autopsy. I think Cooper's style is great! It fits with what's happening musically and I am almost sure he's put many hours in composing the drums for an improved musical image. Of course, this music is guitar-based. Given that fact, the other instruments will have some monotonous lines.
@mikebaldy16 you're insane. nobody could ever top the drumming in Xenochrist. he's just melding a vast number of styles into one, you can hear the preciseness of his jazzy ghost notes
@mikebaldy16 lyle does not get off at 45-1:00! what are you talking about! lyle cooper is one of the best drummers in the tech/death world. i do agree nick peirce was amazing on akeldama, but planetary is a more evolved album. and lyle cooper is PERFECT for this sound. his timing is amazing live and his style is superb!
@mikebaldy16 Yea, you're right. I don't know. It's a fairly new song and who knows how much they practiced it. I think this was one of the earlier shows of the tour if not the first show of the tour so maybe that had something to do with it.
@lookralphsbak I'm a drummer and I prefer the stuff on Planetary Duality. It's much more varied. I don't only look for constant blasting, and while the drums were great on Akeldama, they weren't even that--if you want some great blasting, listen to Origin or Fleshgod Apocalypse.
@mikebaldy16 I'm not a drummer so I don't notice any of those things haha. Drums on PD sound awesome as do the drums on Akeldama. I'm a guitarist so the first thing I usually pay attention to are guitar riffs. Both albums have many memorable riffs and every riff on Planetary Duality is not only good but fits/flows perfectly.
@mikebaldy16 Akeldama is an awesome record but Planetary Duality is wayyyyyyy better in terms of progression, technicality, and sound. lol and the production for PD is wayyyy better than Akeldama lol.
People shit on Michael Keene's clean singing, but face it. It sounds great on record and considering that he is the main songwriter he gets to do it as he pleases. Not to mention the fact hes an amazing guitarist.
@DDzSlaytanic I agree, his Cynic and Holdswoth influence really shine through in his songwriting. he doesnt rip anyone off, but you can hear where hes coming from.
Early summer 2011 I believe is when its do to release right guys? Also I love the clean vox and Ill keep saying it. So enjoy the band as they are, and if you don't like then get the fuck out you donkey rapping son of a motherless jackal .
i dont if i like the clean vox with them or not.... i am really excited to hear the new album though. hopefully they'll keep the same sound the had on Planetary Duality instead of Akeldama. "Sons Of Belial" is a fantastic song but the clean vox just kind of didnt need to be there
@jokerthesmoker666 I can't imagine them going back to the Akeldama sound, they are definitely gonna keep the cosmic sound and get more progressive and technical... THE FACELESS, OBSCURA, AUGURY TOUR IN 2011?! Hopefully!!!
@lommstein Wait...what do you mean?? Just a lil confused, you're talkin about a new singer on planetaryduality that wasn't on akeldama?? It was the same singer on both albums. No members changed except for the drummer. They had like 3 diff drummers on akeldama
@actionsail Well i'm just going off what i heard from my bro. i heard that the singer on akeldama went to finish college, so they got a new singer but i might be wrong...
@jokerthesmoker666 idk dude, i mean in most their songs the clean vox is all i look forward to, they utilize their talent like no other progressive/tech band i know.
@jokerthesmoker666 I've heard a lot of rumors that the new album is gonna have much more clean vocals, they're not leaning towards the whiny-ass type shit, but something that manages to fit. Either way I'm super excited for the new album
This song sounds like it has parts of some Akeldama songs thrown on top of sounds of aliens fighting interdimensional beings with a Meshuggah chorus. Needless to say, I love it.
Hell yes now they have a new myspace layout which says "NEW MUSIC COMING SOON 2011". Feb/March release maybe? Either way, this song is incredible and I can't fucking wait for the new album.
@lookralphsbak actually yea its not that hard, you put headphones on and turn it up and im basing it off of everything i hear...i compare to EVERY other live band shitty or not and with shitty or not quality and sure enough this song sucks real bad. Really really bad, im ashamed actually. I'm a huge fan of them too.
@Nocturnalseve this is actually very groovy and extremely powerful, true "the faceless" song. If you like their previous material (mostly Planetary Duality) and don't digg this, the you just simply haven't listened to this track enough to understand its incredibility. These guys have worked hard for this song, and there is an albumfull of material still coming :)
@matteoboscolotube ONE OF! They are definitely one of the best in their genre... Check out Augury dude... If you love Obscura and The Faceless (you obviously do) then Augury should be right up your alley! Technical/Progressive Death Metal with influences in many other genres... They take technical death metal but have their own sound and aren't technical for the sake of playing fast and cramming as many notes into a bar as they can.
@R34n1mated lol don't take that the wrong way peoplpe. I meant that you get like a totally different vibe from him then the other bands. I had never seen a band like them, with a frontman like him. Like constantly making jokes and stuff. He was wierd. But good.
@blankbrian hahha yeah after the burial sucked dick... in fact most of the bands, haha, less burning the masses, offspring of time is outstanding, you guys should check it out right now, i put all my confindence in this upcoming album, god damn im exited
@anteojitus I'm definitely pre-ordering the new Faceless album... Especially if the preorder package is amazing. Fuck this time I'll spend the extra 15 or 20 bucks and get a hoody instead of a t-shirt unless there's a package that includes both a hoody and t-shirt
anybody know the model of ibanez the other guitarist is using? i think its an s series but im not sure, model? saw these guys for the third time last thursday, easily one of the best live bands for me... nice upload :)
The Faceless have always had clean vocal segments. Pestilence, A Prophecies Fruition, Sons of Belial, Coldly Calculated Design. The clean vocals here are fine. Done tastefully.
@L3Gi0n5 yeah I dont mind the use of clean vocals on there two albums, extremely minimal but more effective because they are so rarely used, i hope they keep it that way for next album
@AnimistOfficial I thought that too when I first heard this song. Opeth influence like whoa, especially with the way they transition into it and out of it, with extreme heaviness right before dropping right into a melodic but metal section, and then out with more heaviness and craziness.
Keenes vocals always fit with the song. when i heard they sing alot, i complained, but then i realized its like that in all the albums they have, and it sounds fucking amazing.
Is Brandon still in the band? This is not him playing here, and I have seen some Summer Slaughter videos, where an other guy is filling up on bass instead of him... Does anybody know something about that?
@Ofidrius There isn't much detail and i don't even think the faceless announced that
yes Brandon is gone and this guy took his place.
if you go to their myspace it doesnt say anything about this and there is a picture of the band and this fresh face is there. His name is jared lander.
I think its all very odd cause brandon and keene founded and started the faceless together....
I hope this is gonna be where Planetary Duality left off, concept wise. I loved the whole outer being thing, it made the album dark imo, i love it. Cant wait for this
@boogiensarah I heared he based this new album off the book the singularity is near while planetary duality was based off the book children of the matrix
@boogiensarah I heared he based this new album off the book the singularity is near while planetary duality was based off the book children of the matrix
@boogiensarah I heard he's basing the new album off of the book the singularity is near while planetary duality was based off of the book children of the matrix
HOLY FUCK YES!!!! i heard about this ran through my house to find my laptop and slid through dog piss with my bare feet. TOTALLY WORTH IT CANT FUCKIN WAIT!!!!!!!
an Eidolon is basically a phantom copy of an entity, it's more commonly defined as an "astral being", but put simply, it's like having two of one person
@gotmilk742 Yea, I was told they were playing a new song and asked to record it for Metal Injection. I got the entire set recorded but uploaded this first for obvious reasons haha.
I actually like Michael Keene's clean vocals. I hope they do more stuff like Shapeshifters or incorporate those sort of ideas into their new album. Regardless their new album is going to be awesome.

The Faceless have always had clean vocal segments. Pestilence, A Prophecies Fruition, Sons of Belial, Coldly Calculated Design. The clean vocals here are fine. Done tastefully.

Clean vocals or not, they're The Faceless, they do what they want.
sonofamitch56 1 year ago
Is the clean vocals really necessary? Jesus Christ. Just keep it brutal.
L3Gi0n5 1 year ago
@L3Gi0n5 yeah I dont mind the use of clean vocals on there two albums, extremely minimal but more effective because they are so rarely used, i hope they keep it that way for next album
davejago 1 year ago
@davejago It was more of a vocoder on the last album which was bearable. This song is awesome but it could do away with the random clean vocals.

Love that Clean vocal Chorus part, with PERFECT CHORDS, OMG ITS SOOOO GOOD.
66Ganon 1 year ago
@AnimistOfficial I thought that too when I first heard this song. Opeth influence like whoa, especially with the way they transition into it and out of it, with extreme heaviness right before dropping right into a melodic but metal section, and then out with more heaviness and craziness.

Keenes vocals always fit with the song. when i heard they sing alot, i complained, but then i realized its like that in all the albums they have, and it sounds fucking amazing.

I actually talked to the original bassist Brandon, he said he is just taking a break to write new music.

everyone stfu about keene's vocals, he did it on akeldama he did it on planetary and he'll fucking do it now if he wants to :P
it's the least he should be able to do seeing how no one else in the fuckin world can write this shit
theartofshred 1 year ago
Is Brandon still in the band? This is not him playing here, and I have seen some Summer Slaughter videos, where an other guy is filling up on bass instead of him... Does anybody know something about that?
Ofidrius 1 year ago
@Ofidrius There isn't much detail and i don't even think the faceless announced that
yes Brandon is gone and this guy took his place.
if you go to their myspace it doesnt say anything about this and there is a picture of the band and this fresh face is there. His name is jared lander.
I think its all very odd cause brandon and keene founded and started the faceless together....
delthefunkeehomosapi 1 year ago
sounds kinda opeth influenced...i like it a lot
AnimistOfficial 1 year ago
@AnimistOfficial Indeed, the chorus (?) sounds a lot like Opeth.

I hope this is gonna be where Planetary Duality left off, concept wise. I loved the whole outer being thing, it made the album dark imo, i love it. Cant wait for this
boogiensarah 1 year ago
@boogiensarah I heared he based this new album off the book the singularity is near while planetary duality was based off the book children of the matrix

Yeah dude, it's definitely the Eidolon Reality
an Eidolon is basically a phantom copy of an entity, it's more commonly defined as an "astral being", but put simply, it's like having two of one person

I actually like Michael Keene's clean vocals. I hope they do more stuff like Shapeshifters or incorporate those sort of ideas into their new album. Regardless their new album is going to be awesome.
