Hehe that is so true. I loved how quiet it was on the trains too, you would almost never hear a phone ringing since everyone has it on manner-mode (in other words, silent). The Japanese are really polite people, which is needed in a country that has such a high population density.
They are really friendly in general (except for the odd old man who will give you a strange look), just don't expect them to speak English. Best advice is to be as respectful as possible.

LOL When I went to japan that excaltly how it is, like before school starts and around 1530-1800 there are tons off ppl on the trains.

They are WAYYYY more polite then their neighbours to the west!!
I found the Chinese quite depressing and rude, was good to head over to japan and see a smile on peoples faces
