Just had an endoscopy without sedation. I vomited several times during the procedure. I thought it would be like swallowing food but no - more like 2 fingers down your throat, so you will dry-vomit a few times. I felt the tube inside me only half of the time. Whenever I felt it moving, then I vomited. I also had a few seconds of a choking sensation when gagging with the tube in me. Bit nerve-wracking but if you're a chilled-out type/dont mind things inside u, you can do it without the sedative.

that was OK I guess...and yeah they usually put you under for the procedure...unless u love to gag and splatter lol; I would have never made it that far because the 1st gag would be the last and Id live with never knowing what is wrong in my stomach! cool video BTW :)

First one I had done when I was around 15 yrs old and the second one when I was 22 (am 23 now). The first time they just sprayed my throat and the second time no sedatives at all and to tell you the truth there was no difference. The procedure looks scary but it isnt really. Youll just gag a lot and thats it, and boy are your stomach muscles gonna be sore afterwards. You can breathe normally so dont be scared that the tube will block your airpaths or something. The first time i had this done i had no sedative and freak out half way through and pulled the endoscopy camera out, the second time they got as far as my lips before i freaked out! having it done on monday with sedative, not looking forward to it one bit and feel for anybody whos having it.

I blame the stupid mouth guard as it makes it near immpossible to swallow. the only way i can describe it is like clostraphobia

I have to get this stupid thing done tomorrow. I'm TERRIFIED. Thankfull,y I will have sedation. But your bravery and ability to be calm throughout the procedure makes me feel less afraid. so thanks for that!!

I have been told that I have to have the same procedure because of acid reflux, and suspected ulcers. I must admit to being a complete pansy when it comes to hospitals & ops, plus I'm also going for a colonoscopy which as I hear isn't very nice either. I want drugs for both & wouldn't even consider it without.

I have An upper one and it was fine...I did not take anything to knock me out, must took a muscle relaxer. I have memory of the day and I was fine (and this was when I was 14!). I got a drug called verced. You just really don't care what's happening and you balance is really off.

I had an upper GI and a colonoscopy one after the other (yes,they did change the scope!)The "sedative" did nothing for me as I have been taking Fentayl and Lorazepam for years (along with loads of other meds)The upper GI is the worst going down,best bit is when its out and over!The colonoscpy was fine.

The procedure is called EGD, and often times lasts only about 5 minutes.  It doesn't hurt and the only discomfort is when your gag reflex is set off, but since you didn't eat or drink anything since the day before it's only a dry heave. I had mine unsedated and it was a piece of cake really, now if you want to talk about an unsedated colonoscopy you're NUTS

I just had my EGD Today....They gave me some stuff to sedate me..And i completely knocked out, i remember gagging but i dont know when or nething else...I just remember laying in my bed and the nurse waking me up.

Thanks for documenting this, I am going tomorrow for about the 14th time. The drugs cause amnesia so I never recall a thing. I always wondered what was going on while I was "out". AAAGGHH! GAG MEEE!

I go every few years too.. But they always give me Versed & Demerol to knock me out.  There is simply no way that I would want to be conscious during this. YUCK!

I'm having this done for SEVERE acid reflux and scarred/inflammed oesophagus etc etc.Hope this will solve this nightmare of mine.Great video!!!

What country was this? Most in USA want and demand sedation. You had a hiatal hernia and Schatzki's ring. If the medicine does not work, you may need a hernia repair surgery in the future

im due to get an endoscopy next week and im only getting the throat spray,not sedation. Im rather nervous as it seems painful and i noticed you coughd alot, whats it like as it seems uncomfortable and does it make you belch when they put air into your stomach? Its seems scary does endoscopy.

wow dude you were either very brave or very stupid... I've had that same thing done 3 times because of problems down there... I only remember 1.5 of them... It was horrible and words can describe it... Do you realize you could have had some serious problems had you started to get that goo in your lungs? Or worse even, if you had coughed and choked like that because you werent relaxed enough and had that tube puncture somethin??? yech.

It wasn't bad. Coughed up a lot of bile, but didn't hurt afterwards. Little bit if a sore throat, but nothing to whine about ;)

I insisted to have the option to get knocked out. Here in Holland they are not keen on knocking you out for everything it seems...

did not give you a Sedative to help you relax more.

Yeah, it felt like I was choking the whole time, and they kept reminding me to breathe! I had the option to be knocked out for the procedure but opted not to. It wasn't too terrible...
