  • make sure you have adb installed correctly... qbking77 has a great video. search "How to install the Android SDK, ADB and Fastboot on your PC"

  • Thanks! worked perfect.....no problems

  • Comment removed

  • @ThePsychoPumpkin yeah flashing the second hboot one gives u son

  • for the second (PG05IMG_hboot1.4.0000.zip) file, do i have to put that on my phone too? because i did the 400 mb (PG05IMG_MR1_no_hboot.zip) and i still have S-OFF

  • @justinbaker0321 i have alternate links in vid description

  • @nat3mil ah, I apologize, hadnt read the link names for the dropbox. thanks for the quick response.

  • Hi, Ive made it through the first parts fine, im not exactly a noob, but when i try to download the 2nd set of links to do the unroot, the links will not open the dl page. do you have any mirrors or other places to get those PG05IMG_MR1_no_hboot.zip files?

  • It just says 'about:Blank' for 30 sec then i get 'unable to connect to..." I've tried it on my desktop as well with different browsers, I believe multiupload's website is down

  • @glyder114 yeah its either named incorrectly (check for a extra .zip that windows could be hiding) its in the wrong place (not on the root of sd card) or the download is corrupt (check the md5sum to be sure)

  • i put the PG05IMG no hboot file on my thunderbolts sd and renamed PG05IMG and thunderbolt read it and everything but didnt ask me to update and instead went back to the fastboot/ bootloader screen. any idea on why this happened?

  • Any tips you can give me to unroot my phone if the screen isn't working? Basically my phone dropped, the screen doesn't work, and now I have to take it into Verizon for a replacement but I don't want to do that with the phone rooted. Thanks. :)

  • @Nebrida23 do you know that its turning on? or is it just dead?

if it is turning on, you could do this but would be completely blind, very hard

if its dead i dont think verizon would be able to tell its rooted

  • @nat3mil it's turning on, i have sense 3.0 and can slide the ring up and you can hear it making noise and stuff if you know where to click. should i just claim it's lost?

  • uh yea it says my internet cant find the PG05IMG_MR1_no_hboot.zip - c64b4367086fff4f51ec3d5d766a0456 file and when i do cached copy i cant download it

  • @ComptonCarty i am adding new links now, check the vid description

  • @nat3mil thank you they downloading now =P

  • @Justinurban03 u must downgrade first to root. Instructions for that can be found in the video description of my rooting video

  • @LeoLove810 type what I say in the video cd c:\tbolt

  • when I type cdc:/tbolt is says: isn't recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch files.

    What do I do!?

  • @johhall ty :)

  • Rooted and unrooted all in one day. These are the simplest instructions! If you can watch this video, you can root and unroot. nat3mil Rocks!!

  • @johhall can you help me then? Ive tried every methon and cant get it to root! i have 2.11.605.9 which is why a lot of methods dont work..... ugh any ideas?

  • @DRL805 the direct download and rapid share mirrors work fine, for both files

  • @DRL805 what link specifically doesn't work for u

  • @nat3mil the files in the video at 7:20 and 7:32 from the second part of the guide.

  • @nat3mil PG05IMG_MR1_no_hboot.zip, and PG05IMG_hboot_1.4.0000.zip

  • Hi, i got the tbolt.zip download from dropbox but i cannot get any of the other files because the fbi seized the download sites. Can someone please put them in dropbox and post the link. I have to send my phone back in 2 days and cannot unroot!!! Thank you!

  • can someone please email me the tbolt.zip file? im completely stuck without it, and i can not get it from the link, or anywhere online

  • @Frandiglious ive got ur back ;)

check the link section of the video description for a new link!

  • @nat3mil YES thank you!!

  • ugh that makes no sence its keeps trying to force an update and i just wanna unroot it

  • @KraqRox boot to recovery and clear your cache partition, then it will work fine

  • @nat3mil so it boots up after about 30 seconds then start to shutdown and i just wanna unroot it and to do it with this updatge i keep trying to download

  • @Frandiglious try unrooting

  • @nat33mil that was my thought as well but in order to do so, i need that stock firmware file that has been taken off the internet. or am i missing something?

  • @Frandiglious both downloads work perfectly fine for me from the direct download link on multiupload

  • @nat3mil thats really weird, i get redirected to a page saying that the site has been siezed because of copyright infringement and money laundering. i cant get the file anywhere

  • @LosOjosdeDorian53 its a chat client, there is an online one, Google it

  • My phone changed unroot for unrest. :)

  • Hi Nate! Sorry to bother u again, but I need to unrest really bad. What is an IRC client?? And where do I download it from?? Help please!!

  • @Frandiglious u never get to the bootloader?

  • @nat3mil no it just goes straight to the update attempt. the problem is the result of accidentally accepting an OTA update after rooting with revolutionary. now the phone will function but when i select recovery, it just goes to a white HTC screen and then the black update screen for about 2 seconds and then an error symbol. im lost

  • @nat3mil how do i install a custom rom newbie here

  • @pctechwizzard I have a video for that

  • Got stock on the same step. I got FAILD remote:not allowed. Tried again, got OKAY. Did the next command and got FAILD unknown status code

  • @pctechwizzard u flash a custom rom

  • i need to downgrade from the new ota and btw @nat3mil once i root how do i make it so i dont have to deal with these ota updates when rooted

  • Thanks Nate!!! I'll do that then. From step 1st step on command prompt, right??

  • @LosOjosdeDorian53 Idk what would cause that. I'd reboot computer and phone and try again.

  • ran out of space. lol So I thought I BRIKED it. But I turned it on and it was fine! I still need to unroot. Please give me some advice!

  • Hi Nate! Got 2 start by thanking you for ur awesome videos.I have done it successfully b4, bt I could not do it this time. All went well until i got to fastboot screen.5:28 did ''fastboot oem mw 8d08ac54 1 31302E30'' then fail. I gave it another try and it gave the OKAY this time. So I went ahead. did the next command ant it FAIL. And the phone wuldnt respond to anything. I tried to find an answer to the problem, but did find anyone with the same problem. I ended up taking the battery out.

  • @Frandiglious why the u stuck in bootloop? If it's cuz ur phone tried to update just boot to recovery and clear cache partition and Ull be good

  • @nat3mil every time i try to boot to recovery, i get the white HTC screen like its going to work and then it tries to software update. black screen with the update symbol and then an error symbol and it stays like that. i think i need to unroot and go back to stock and re-root?

  • Does anyone have the tbolt.zip file they can email to me? im stuck in boot loop and the file in the link is gone and i cant find one anywhere. it would be MUCH appreciated

  • @nat3mil. thanks.

  • @Nat3mil can I get update from Verizon without that triangle and android guy popping up or do I have to unroot update and then root again. HELP. Keep having to wipe cache to get phone working again.

  • @mrbodeem12 u wont be able to unroot, take the new update and root again because the new update is unrootable. I would suggest just flashing a custom rom like bamf forever 1.10 and u will not get anymore ota notifications

  • subed nat3mil

  • @nat3mil thanks works good no issues :d im now unrooting phones for friends who the root screwed there phone up

  • i got the same problem as (thebigthn) i tried the wifi but it just stops at FAST BOOT when is shows up on my phone then cmd tells me (wating on phone) is there a part im missing

  • any chance you could email me those files since multiupload appears to be down

  • nevermind, im just going to install a custom rom

  • I think my micro usb is broken. Is there a way to unroot without a computer or through the SD card? Also I had tried a program called ADB wireless but when I type 'adb devices', I don't see the serial number of my device, only the ip address that was assigned by ADB wireless.

  • @thebigthn if u can get the wireless adb to work then u should be able to unroot,, ive never used it so idk what adb devices is suppose to show sorry

  • perfect, thank you!

  • does your volume up button have to work?

  • @sgoss7091 yeah

  • im still scratching my head on that one but it also has *** Security Warning on top and still says s-on????? and when i try to just restart my phone it powers off by itself

  • @ryandively sounds like u flashed the pg05img files out of order. there is a huge warning on the guide saying if u flash the hboot one first u get a security warning. I dont know how to help you from this point.

  • @ryandively how did u get son if u weren't able to finish the video?

  • Comment removed

  • @nate3mil no it doesnt

  • @ryandively did it try to take an update? is that why u are unrooting? if so, boot to recovery and clear cache partition, then u can boot ur phone up normally.

  • @nate3mil I have tried downloading it again and recopying it to my SD card but still wont work and now its stuck in a loop where it keeps shutting down and going into the HBoot menu

  • @ryandively so it doesn't ask u to update? Redownload the file it might be corrupt

  • @nate3mil i have the same problem with the orange bar after the blue bar loads and my Mecha XD ship S-ON but still is not unrooted NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Worked flawlessly!

  • Hey i have a question for you......every time i have to take a update from Verizon Wireless i have to wipe all my data so i can avoid the update and then un-hack my Thunderbolt.......my question starts at is there a way to back up all your apps so when you re-hack your phone you can just redownload them and not have to scratch your head looking for them all over again.

  • @MrRickahlack831 yes the app mybackup root will backup ur apps and data. but u cannot unroot, take thenew update, then reroot. the new update is unrootable

  • @nat3mil Which update version is that? and is there anyway to stop the update? what are the perks of new update?

  • @MrRickahlack831 details can be found in the video description of my rooting video

  • Worked great thanks for the awesome walk through

  • UPDATE: Seems the first PG05IMG_MR1_no_hboot.zip I downloaded was corrupt. I re-downloaded from another jump site and was able to get the upgrade request... the rest was gravy.... thanks for the video nate. Worked great.

  • I'm not getting the update request seen on 10.08, is there something I can do?

I'm trying to find the answer in previous postings, but there's so many! Would appreciate some help so I don't screw-up my life companion. ;-)

  • why does it say "error: device offline" when im just about to finish with my last too bootloads? please help thanks!

  • @blaketorok turn usb debugging off and on again

  • @CRSmith215 u can go through my rooting video

  • @nat3mil -Ok thanks.

  • @nat3mil -Ok, thanks. I've got it back to the original state from February 2011. You're the greatest! Never found anyone else w/ easy rooting/unrooting instructions as great as yours. You have a solution on here for every potential Thunderbolt problem. Thanks.

  • -I don't how that happened. But its causing the whole unrooting process to fail. I used your methods to root and unroot before and they always worked. I don't understand why it fails now. Its not your fault though. Do you know how I can get it back to saying "Ship S-OFF"?

  • @CRSmith215 yes. if u have son ur already unrooted

  • @nat3mil -But I'm still rooted because my phone still has all it's files and everything is still the same. So "Ship S-ON" is not a good thing if I'm still rooted, is it?

  • My phone is also saying MECHA XD SHIP S-ON. Could that be the problem as to why I can pass unroot boot screen sucessfully?

  • Hello, I did this before and it worked great but why at 10:08. after loading zip and my progress bar is blue. My progress bar turns orange. And I dont get the option to update. Why?

  • @CRSmith215 -My phone is also saying MECHA XD SHIP S-ON. Could that be the problem?

  • hey i just wanted to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! you all are awesome.......it work great. This is the best video to follow step by step.......THANK YOU

  • my phone tried to update, and the next thing i know, it went to the recovery. when i select reboot, my phone powers up and then after about a minute or so, it powers it self off. this keeps happening everytime i reboot it. need help please

  • @Alex870441 boot to recovery and clear cache partition

  • @nat3mil I had the same issue this morning! I am trying your suggestion right now... By the way, would you recommend getting this update? If yes, do we need to unroot first? Thanks for all your help

  • @whooots the new update is unrootable so you wouldnt be able to unroot take the update then root again. its best to just flash a custom rom like bamf forever 1.10 and be done with it

  • @whooots How do you flash a custom rom like bamf forever 1.10 and where would you find it? I rooted my thunderbolt and have no idea how to do it. I was planning on unrooting it but I would prefer to keep my phone rooted without having it reset and going through this when an update comes out

  • @sgoss7091 get bamf forever from my blogs thunderbolt page. Use my how to install cusyom rom video to flash

  • @sgoss791 where is your blogs thunderbolt page?

  • @nat3mil What do you mean by "boot to recovery and clear cache partition? Do you mean at the Revolutionary screen in the menu after a fail, that you "wipe cache partition"? I've tried "wipe data/factory reset" but after several hours the new software update will fail again, and I can only go to the Revolutionary menu.

  • I need help. I rooted by HTC Thunderbolt using your other video. Everything went well and was sailing along smoothly until this morning. All I can do is fast boot my phone. If I chose any options, the phone goes to the htc screen and stops there. I cannot get my phone to boot up. My PC doesn't recognize it as a hard drive when I plug in USB either.

  • @SweetLotusCreations it tried to update itself. No problem just boot to recovery and clear cache partition. Ur phone will boot up fine

  • @nat3mil Thanks for responding. I did that and it does the same thing. Reboots to htc screen and stalls there.

  • @SweetLotusCreations then from recovery restore any backups u have or wipe cache and data and flash a new rom . Ur data will be wiped

  • @nat3mil When I get to the part where you run the abd devices in command prompt. All it says is "Devices shown" It doesnt show my phone or serial number or anything.. Any idea whats goin on?

  • @scubasteve12192 make sure drivers are installed, also make sure usb debugging is turned on. uninstall ANY syncing and antivirus software. also can try rebooting computer

  • Great video, but for some reason I keep getting stuck. At about the 3:50 mark of your video I type (from the command prompt cd c:\tbolt then get the c:\tbolt> then copy and past "md5sums hbooteng.nb0" and get a response that says 'md5sums' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • @gusparker12 u must not have copied the folder correctly. Check the folder and make sure there's not a tbolt folder inside a tbolt folder

  • Your video guide has helped me many times. lol

  • Will this work to unroot tmobiles htc Sensation?

  • @JJECKLE13 nope

  • Since this video was made has there a shorter way yo un-root?

  • @designwebs not that i know of.

  • @nat3mil, Do you happen to know if you get an OTA notification and take it does that unroot your your phone or just brick it?

  • @designwebs neither. The update will fail and ull need to boot to recovery and clear cache before ur phone will boot up.

  • can someone help me unroot my htc sensation xe and go back to the stock rom after revolutinary? please help!

  • Thanks man yet again. Used you to root the phone. Now there is a minor update, and as I have learned through the fourms, I will need to unroot and then apply the update and root again. If I am wrong someone please correct me. But I did unroot and was a good thing to learn in case I was to need to unroot anyways for another reason. All worked great, but took longer than expected but first time for me always takes much longer. Thanks a lot man ,and keep up the good videos.

  • damn my brother thank u very much man i thought i had brick my phone good looking out bro godbless u

  • need help i downloaded the bliss hd theme from here and i flashed it with rom manager and noow my thunderbolt doesnt boot, it wont pass the thunderbolt boot logo and keeps restarting can you help me please ?

  • @santiico01 u don't need to unroot. All u need to do is turn ur phone off hold volume down and power button. Select recovery. Then u can restore a backup or wipe and flash a new rom

  • I LOVE YOUUUU <333333

  • whats wrong with the link ? D: i still havent gotten it

  • @trevor11596 what link?

  • YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!!!!

  • 2 words... THANK YOU.

  • Thanks Nate for an excellent tutorial. I unrooted yesterday (I am a total newbie...took half the day) but it worked! Thanks for your time and expertise!

  • it is under portable devices..

  • @trevor11596 yeah it shouldn't be there. Make sure u have usb debugging on, settings, applications, development. Uninstall the portable device driver and install the driver in the video description.

  • @nat3mil kay thanks man!!

  • Comment removed

  • i went to a different computer and still the same thing... do you think it might be because i did a factory reset on my phone?

  • @trevor11596 nope, just have to have usb debugging on, in charge only mode and drivers installed and it should work. Go to device manager, is ur phone listed under android phone ?

  • @nat3mil ugh.... idk what to do man... i did everything you said and it still wont show up how do i get android phone into the device manager ?

  • @trevor11596 just by installing the driver and turning usb debugging on. It should install then. It's the same for when u rooted ..

  • @nat3mil do i have to run the driver after installing it or what ? do i have to put it somewhere?

  • @trevor11596 no. Just install it.

  • @nat3mil still nothing i just restarted my computer after i installed the driver.... still nothing.. im doing everything exaclty right wtf... >.>

  • @trevor11596 reply to my private message

  • when i copy and paste the adb devices my phone doesnt show up any advice?

  • @trevor11596 reboot phone and computer, reinstall drivers, uninstall any syncing software like HTC sync or itunes, turn off AntiVirus, turn on usb debugging

  • @nat3mil ugh..... i did everything you said and it didnt work my phone still isnt showing up

  • @trevor11596 well something on ur comp must be messing it up. I would check again for syncing software , or try on another computer.

  • Many thanks my friend, your vids helped me root and they also helped me unroot.

  • FInally got it to work for me!! Nate!, you are the man! Thanks for all! I needed to de-root since my speaker phone quite on me. Now I can get a replacement and root again. Thanks as always....

    Cueto

  • Help- Im stuck. My volume up botton is smashed and doesnt work. Im stuck at the PG05 image to start update. Vol up -can t choose yes. I have no vol up. What do I do?

  • @robretina1 that's tricky , Idk

  • Nate, im having issues when I copy fastboot device into command prompt! Its not recommending my device like it did before! I tried twice and keep getting to this point where if I dont see my device I should NOT continue. Reboot device...I do notice that when i try this my device becomes UN-recognized from my computer...like I have removed it.. Please help bro

  • @Cueto700R is USB debugging on?

  • Nate, your tutorials are amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. I was wondering, if I decide to flash the new rooted OTA update to stop it from automatically downloading to my phone, will this unrooting process remain the same? Would I need to flash a nandroid backup of before the update first? I've had some trouble ever since rooting with Revolutionary and am undecided as to whether to keep it or not.

  • @Falnky unrooting will always be the same no matter what ROM u are on. So no u wouldn't have to restore or anything.

  • By data, do you mean apps & text messages but SD card will be ok?

  • @ny4321 yeah

  • You're a life saver!! Now if I flash the rooted version of the update will I have all of the stuff they are pushing in their update? Also, will it eliminate the possiblility of them forcing updates on me in the middle of the night?

  • @ny4321 yes its the exact update just rooted and all the crapware is taken out. U won't get any more forced otas, ur data will be wiped however FYI.

  • I know people like me are a pain but I dont know how to boot to recovery or how to find my cache partition in order to clear it. So sorry, I really am trying to learn this stuff. THANK YOU!!! :-)

  • @ny4321 turn phone off, hold volume down + power button. when in white screen select recovery, in recovery select clear cache partition (or wipe i dont remeber exactly what it says) then reboot system now
