This is why you destroyed the motor...... First off a 5700kv motor is for a lighter car.... Maybe an on road car. But any way the 4600 is the best one since it has more torque than the 5700 and will not heat up as much.... If it was up to me i would stay in the 3500kv range since the rustler vxl is a 3500kv!!!!
If you go on rc tech there are forums about the mamba max and that the 5700kv and the 7700kv is for lighter cars like buggies and on road cars!!!!!!!!!!!!
how did you get the pinion to stay on the mamba? the shaft is kinda short and mine keeps flying off. i tried using loctite and putting it really tight but it still keeps coming off.

Im not sure with the novak systems... i can tell you what not to get though like the mamba max motors (5700K) due to overheating not over gearing. I have actually had the most luck with the VXL motor that comes with the Rustler mixed with the Mamba Max ESC.
seriously you should upgrade that thing to the brushless systems... I really like the Mamba Max ESC and it has done very well with the stock Rustler motor.
I have the stock rustler and looking at - Castle Creations Mamba Max ESC/5700kV Motor Combo. Is that all I need its just a stock XL-5? I also have a 7.2 V NiMH 4500 mAh battery with deans connectors that I am using. How fast do you think I could go, and how much run time? lmfao, you cant run a brushless motor on a brushed esc, just go to towerhobbies or amainhobbies and get the mamba max system or sidewinder system by castle creations
you need a new tranny. the xl-5 doesnt have steel gears in the tranny like the vxl does. also, the vxl has a stronger steerign servo(not nessesary but nice) and slightly stronger drive shafts and larger ball bearings at the wheels(not bushings) with that battery it will do 35mph and will accel quicker than your xl-5 motor. also, you should get a slightly longer runtime than you get now. you can go lipo for $100(2 lipos and a charger)
you can use your current xl5 and go into the tranny, theres only 1 gear i think its the iddle gear that is made of plastic, get the metal one, they do sell it, thats how i got mine. Change the gear and youre ready to go lipo. I think mamba would replace his motor same thing happened to me and they sent me a new one. hope this helps

Drop your pinion down a few teeth. Slow it down a little but will save you some money on motors. Super speed though. what was that ESC and Motor? All Castle Creations?

you have to have a brushless esc. brushless motors cant work in stock esc's or there will be no signal cus the motor has three wires. the mamba max kit has good price and its faster than vxl
The rotor (magnet) is suspended between the windings by the front and rear bearings. It will not be able to spin if you remove the rear endbell. The heat most likely melted the front bearing or the rotor was completely demagnetized.

mamba esc's are byfar some of the most powerfull and strong esc's around for 1:10th - 1:8th scale rc cars. Vxl motors are alright but the VXL esc is pure garbage
Just an opinion to add on to this here, the VXL motor would be a wiser choice over the mamba max (5700) that i have used. I don't have any other experience with any other motors as of yet. I agree 100% with you on the Mamba ESC.

mamba maxx is shit 1st motor shaft broke after landing a smal jump got the motor back from warenty overheated fixed my self did it again but ran fine then went to put in the battery later an no go esc fried but no signs of destruction what a waste of 200.00

he's been running a VXL motor whole video.the first part atleast,who knows what happened to the mm motor,he's probably holding it with a clamp (rotor part that holds pinion) so it causes it to fuzz out like that.
i think he was showing the abuse the vxl motor can take. i'm sure he ruined his mm motor during normal driving. i have the rustler vxl and the motor is bulletproof. i ran 32/76 gearing with stampede tires (way too high for any motor of that size) and hit 190F. the only thing that made my motor run weird is the dent i put in the side of it by doing a 50+ ft jump. now, it cogs but still runs.
my speedcontrol stoped working probably...so i opened it and saw that one of the little black squares inside of it was burned. i pretty sure it was caused by water , since i drive it a lot in snow....but i;m not sure...... anyone?? pls

Oh yea, what a great thing to have out there. It made time fly by and a little cash as well. All in all a probable total of 1700 went in to the rustler after all upgrades and spare parts/broken parts.
No motor will work when you take away one of the bearings. Running it that way is probably more damaging to the rotor than any heat you may have given it.
Yes, and Yes. More power and speed than the VXL motor, the one in this video ended up seizing after these runs though because of incorrect spur and pinion. A 18/83 is probably the best combo for this thing, and will not over heat... the 32/76 will ruin 100 bucks. Its a higher KV motor at 5400KV Mamba and 3500KV Velenion.
Well Shawn, I guess you didn't like the video. My bad we aren't geeked on this stuff, and you are 100% correct about the gearing.... it had the 76/32 I believe in it, our bad! Not at all! I mean getting the program on an windows vista computer is a little tricky, but an easily download from castle's website cures it up for you. The programing is up to you, some combos work better for run times vs. speed and other way around... there is heating as well... the drag brake is a killer in every field, so i don't use it at all. Overall a great product, higher KV motors aren't that great but the lower ones are but slower speeds. ESC is #1!!
Well I have both the Rustler XL-5 with a mamba setup and a Rustler VXL. I had no idea they were going to come out with the VXL so I set my XL-5 up with mamba but when I bought the VXL i was like wow this is great. Buy the rustler vxl, it has everything, and its really really user friendly
02bash, Dell is right as far as the mamba vs VXL set up and what to buy. If you plan on beating the crap out of your truck, save yourself some hassle and mount that ESC (VXL-3) right on to the chassis as soon as you get it, as well as tighten the nuts on your wheels ;). Speed difference is in the motor and gearing. The mamba will go faster but will get hotter, the motor to me is crap, but the ESC (mambamax) is untouchable technology.
the mamba needs way different gearing than the velineon. the Veli can do more gear but has less rpm, its also has way more torque which makes it harder to control with a battery like that. The mamba motor can do close to 100k rpm, with the 5700 and that lipo you should be geared around 19/90, depending on your spur, the velineon should be geared 31/76 with that pack. the mamba will produce higher top speeds, i have a feeling your motor died because of your gearing.

Oh yea, what a great thing to have out there. It made time fly by and a little cash as well. All in all a probable total of 1700 went in to the rustler after all upgrades and spare parts/broken parts.

No motor will work when you take away one of the bearings. Running it that way is probably more damaging to the rotor than any heat you may have given it.

Yes, and Yes. More power and speed than the VXL motor, the one in this video ended up seizing after these runs though because of incorrect spur and pinion. A 18/83 is probably the best combo for this thing, and will not over heat... the 32/76 will ruin 100 bucks. Its a higher KV motor at 5400KV Mamba and 3500KV Velenion.

i can tell by the sound of the motor you had it geared wrong. you do not gear a 5700kv motor to the same gear ratio used for a 3350kv vxl motor.
try reading the manual next time.

Well Shawn, I guess you didn't like the video. My bad we aren't geeked on this stuff, and you are 100% correct about the gearing.... it had the 76/32 I believe in it, our bad! It was fun though, a hundred bucks later it had a new motor and the proper gearing. Thanks for the heads up about being a fool, didn't know that!

I have 2 rustlers an e maxx and a stampede not including the minis lol. The e maxx and rustlers are my brothers and the stampede is mine. Not at all! I mean getting the program on an windows vista computer is a little tricky, but an easily download from castle's website cures it up for you. The programing is up to you, some combos work better for run times vs. speed and other way around... there is heating as well... the drag brake is a killer in every field, so i don't use it at all. Overall a great product, higher KV motors aren't that great but the lower ones are but slower speeds. ESC is #1!!

Well I have both the Rustler XL-5 with a mamba setup and a Rustler VXL. I had no idea they were going to come out with the VXL so I set my XL-5 up with mamba but when I bought the VXL i was like wow this is great. Buy the rustler vxl, it has everything, and its really really user friendly

02bash, Dell is right as far as the mamba vs VXL set up and what to buy. If you plan on beating the crap out of your truck, save yourself some hassle and mount that ESC (VXL-3) right on to the chassis as soon as you get it, as well as tighten the nuts on your wheels ;). Speed difference is in the motor and gearing. The mamba will go faster but will get hotter, the motor to me is crap, but the ESC (mambamax) is untouchable technology.

the mamba needs way different gearing than the velineon. the Veli can do more gear but has less rpm, its also has way more torque which makes it harder to control with a battery like that. The mamba motor can do close to 100k rpm, with the 5700 and that lipo you should be geared around 19/90, depending on your spur, the velineon should be geared 31/76 with that pack. the mamba will produce higher top speeds, i have a feeling your motor died because of your gearing.
