Every song that is sung on American Idol is a cover or a cover's cover. I can't recall them ever asking them to compose an original song and sing it live. The whole show is based upon "stealing" another classic song writers material and seeing how well they can reproduce it in front of a live studio audience.
There was never a coverup. It was announced as Cornell's version. Duh. Also, Cook gave credit to Doxology for Eleanor Rigby in an interview but it got edited by the producers. I don't think Cook borrowed "Hello" from Incubus. I think it's a coincidence that they are a little similar. Plus, I don't think the Eleanor Rigby arrangement was very good. Cook's own arrangements like Always Be My Baby, Baba O Reilly and All I really need is You were 10x better than that Doxology crap he borrowed.

He never claimed that it was his original version. David Cook told everyone that he wanted something different and he liked Chris Cornells version. He is not stealing, they are not allowed to use new material. They have to use previously recorded songs. So they are not stealing covers. When the judges say original they are saying he is not taking the popular version, he is trying something different.

I do think cooks was better but that's just a matter of opinion. nothing against cornell, he's great. Just happened to like david cooks voice better in this instance. again though I dont think the judges would think that was a total original, just an original idea for that show

Every song that is sung on American Idol is a cover or a cover's cover. I can't recall them ever asking them to compose an original song and sing it live. The whole show is based upon "stealing" another classic song writers material and seeing how well they can reproduce it in front of a live studio audience.

There was never a coverup. It was announced as Cornell's version. Duh. Also, Cook gave credit to Doxology for Eleanor Rigby in an interview but it got edited by the producers. I don't think Cook borrowed "Hello" from Incubus. I think it's a coincidence that they are a little similar. Plus, I don't think the Eleanor Rigby arrangement was very good. Cook's own arrangements like Always Be My Baby, Baba O Reilly and All I really need is You were 10x better than that Doxology crap he borrowed.

but for doxology's "eleanor rigby" he really didn't give any credit until doxology and blake lewis mentioned it in interviews and then he started mentioning it on tv. (although i suspect he might have given credit in the beginning only that Fox might have edited it out like they always do)
so really, both ways, he did give credit sooner or later.

If they really wanted originality the contestants would have one week to write a song of they're own. NO ONE WOULD WATCH THIS!
