  • This perfectly proves just how much musical culture each, and every person from the jury has.

  • Thumbs Up for David suck Cock.

  • Although this is long ago now. The difference is that David did it 100 times better than Cornell. and Chris would later give props to David.

  • On top of the fact he did credit Cornell, let's not forget that the 1st single off his album was written by Cornell AFTER Idol so obviously Cornell didn't mind...David was original because he always made the songs his own and his voice was incredible...let's not forget "Hello" ...I believe Lionel Ritchie called and said he loved David's version...David has tons of orig music...Analog Heart, all the Axium albums but he is also the KING of covers hands down

  • @thedude1579 uhmmmm, who gives a shit? i've seen david cook in concert and he's amazing. i hear his music on the radio at least once a day. never once have i heard anything about Chris Cornell untill DAVID.

  • Moron,lol.

People don't listen then they give their opinion, lol. by the way, i knew this version from Chris and liked it. But i really love the Cook version wayyyy better.

  • the whole was different from david cook chris cornell was a low pitch singer dis is a bitch

  • This bitch is stupid she obviously didnt really do her research

  • i haven't heard of an idol contestant who sang his or her own composition. This girl is a dumb bitch.

  • Poster, please change your name to "jimmytheidolMORON" - its suits you better.

  • I love how all of the David Cook lovers on here are quick to defend this thief lol. He sucks and should have never won that year. So many others were better than him. His voice is not even that great.

  • @jeremy2009ify Please, please, PLEASE explain what makes him a "thief"?! Do you understand how covers and the music industry works? Do you even understand American Idol? By your definition, every person who ever sings on American Idol is a "thief" because its all covers of someone elses music!!! Go back and watch his performances - he is hand and fist over every other contestant that season. Curb your jealousy kid.

  • @jeremy2009ify omfg . i dare you to sing better than him . none of the other contestants on the show had as high a vocal range as david cook does ! david archuleta cant even sing high notes without sounding like a girl, jason castro cant hit high notes PERIOD , but when cook sings with high notes his voice is powerful and still masculine . you are such a jealous fag ... and thief ? how many times do we have to say he gave credit to Chris Cornell ?!

  • I am so sorry that he sang that WAY BETTER than Chris C. PLUS he gave Chris credit ! Listen to Ryan Secreast!!! I suppose you think he stole Mariah's Always be my baby? Ya know what? David Cook has an amazing voice.

  • It's a fucking cover! None of these songs are created by the contestants. None of it is really all that "original." He credited Chris Cornell before the performance. He explicitly said that you stupid bitch. Do we know he heard that other band's performance of Ellanore Rigby? No, it's not like it was that blazzingly original of an arrangement. Bottom line he had some great performances and some of great arrangements that he did come up with, just not this one, which he openly admitted.

  • bitch shut the fuck up.. its not about who did something first its all about who can pull it off better

  • this is just fucked up dumb ass news. Its not like he went up and said " this is MY version of Billie Jean and im singing it for the first time "..

He ended up saying he did do covers a few weeks after.. Even the news cant get their facts right?

  • This story is crap and just some lame ass reporter trying to stir up some shit. It is, after all, a show where they sing other people's songs. Besides, the contestants are NOT responsible for the judges being idiots.

  • this is so stupid when they introduced it has chris cornell's version!

  • This is stupid, get your facts right.

  • well lady reserch why u didnt listen he have really good voice and sing much better then anyone else :P

  • i hate u ladyy leave david alone

  • Is this woman deaf? Two seconds before the song starts, they give credit to the original artist. And her question: shouldn't the judges be paying attention...?

  • All songs sung on AI are other people's songs, no "stealing" involved. The contestants aren't allowed to sing original music. David just chose Cornell's version instead of MJ's. Ryan introduces it as Cornell's; the judges weren't paying attention to that, but they still had every right to be blown away by it. Cornell's version is good, but David's was great imo! A couple weeks later when David is talking w/Ryan right b4 performing, he says he used Doxology's "E.Rigby" & Cornell's "B.Jean"

  • * I looked for it and that conversation he had w/Ryan saying he used the Doxology, Whitesnake & Cornell versions was at the beginning of his Top 9 performance of Little Sparrow, one week after singing Billie Jean.

  • WHO CARES!! Last time I checked...NOBODY was singing ANYTHING original on ANY season of idol. He is original because he doesn't sing the songs the way they are "originally" sung. He hunts for a version that best suits him

  • Guess people don't listen very well

  • Who cares!? he can sing better than you. period.

  • big deal.. he was original enough not to use the usual version of songs.

  • She needs to get fired. I bet she's still single

  • f u loser

  • Reasons fox reporting is wrong on "this one"(not to mention every other story they cover): -Seacrest said it was cornells version -david never just flat out said those were his renditions -not to mention how can he be unoriginal when he had whole album of original music out before idol even started

    FOX = Trash

  • Thats Fox reporting for you LMAO!!

  • What do you guys think? I think you're an idiot.

  • his version of Little Sparrow, Always be my Baby, All I Really Need is You and First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and others are totally original and amazing. Also if you ever go to any of his concerts he sings plenty of original covers including I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight and Shattered Dreams. Also, David almost always credits Cornell as one of his major influences. He is original and that woman was very disrespectful. Sorry I adore David and he is my favorite celeb so I was offended by this

  • Oh my God. I want to hit that freakin woman with a shoe. Yes, Ryan indeed said "singing Chris Cornells version..." The next week David gave credit himself to the band he covered the Beatles song from, because Ryan said people had talked about it. For that (excuse my French) bitch to go and call David Cook unoriginal she really needs to be slapped, the sarcasm when she asks about the judges comments and she says "original..." Really woman really? Maybe he got a little help for a few songs, but

  • LOL, she was clearly clueless of what she was reporting! David, himself stated that he was fortunate to find versions that suite his voice from the internet when he does his own research for Idol Performances and he was honest enough to credit the original artists and arrangers of the versions he was doing! hah! she should be the done paying more attention! duh!

  • This lady is a fucking idiot....Ryan says "Chris Cornells version" before he started singing it.....And just so ya know every single person on that show is singing someone else's song.......It's not like they are singing their own original music...Damn I hate stupid people.....

  • The contestants are already doing someone else's songs, so what the hell difference does it make if they use someone else's version. David stated in interviews that he found and used versions that suited his style and vocals. That's just being smart. If it wasnt made clear on the show to the audience that David was doing someone elses version, or the fact that the judges chose to ignore that, blame the show, not David.

  • Chris Cornell gave him permission to do so, this lady is an idiot.

Who cares anyways...... There are more important things to worry about.

  • "did a little research" my ass, she just heard gossip and decided to make a news report, probably doesnt even watch the show...

  • This has got to be the worst journalist in the world!

  • LOL. Love journalists who are bad at their job. Well, that's actually every journalist out there, so..

  • that bitch needs to relook at what ryan secrest said b4 we sang he said this is chris cornells version of billie jean heres david cook so every1 should of clearly fucking no this to begin with u dbag

  • Does this person still have a job? Well thats Faux news for ya... she probably does.

  • that woman is a bitch lol why would you even waste time to even talk about it on the news when there's people dying in this world and other things that are MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS and David cook/ ryan seacrest said "Chris Cornell's version of Billy Jean they didnt say Michael Jackson so what was wrong with that?

  • This is stupid! David never claimed it was his versioninfact he said he goes to iTunes and also he said himself that billie jean was chris cornel's version. This is a waste of time so I don't even know why I bother

  • You stupid woman :D

  • defamation! and yes it's fair, it takes a new look at a classic and puts it out there! I like both Chris cornell's and daid Cook's version. Stupid FOX, like always getting some of the facts right and contorting the story to get people riled up over BS! LOL!

  • wat do u expect from fox news. apparently every1 was wrong exceot them

  • BITCH! --'

he admited that the cover was for chris cornell! Ryan himself said that the cover was by crhis cornell!! These news and this fucking bitch has already pissed me off!! GRR

  • someone should sue this bitch :|

  • Oh, I really hope that reporter sees all these comments and is embarrassed at what a deaf fool she is who doesn't know the meaning of the word "steal". David NEVER CLAIMED IT WAS HIS and Ryan stated before he sung that David was doing Chris Cornell's version. Furthermore, David later repeated that he did Chris Cornell's version.

  • 1. David Cook admitted he looks online for different versions of songs to perform: He even said he got the idea of Day Tripper from Whitesnake and Chris Cornell with Billie Jean.

    2. David came up with plenty original versions on his own: Always be my baby, Little Sparrow, All I really Need is You

    3. Even though he did use other artists versions he still a) sang them perfectly b)took a huge risk by singing them and not choosing a typical rock song

  • what do i think? i this show is stupid!

  • Oh FUCKING BULLSHIT. lol

  • "by an artist named Chris Cornell" LOL.... uhhhh, what a dipshit. Chris Cornell = Soundgarden. Also, have to agree with the majorityof folks saying "Chris Cornell's version of...". Seriously, who hired this stupid bitch?

  • What a dumb bitch! Ha seriously before he performed, Ryan said Chris was doing Chris Cornells version and David Cook even said on the show the next time that it was Cornells song. Randy just probably didn't hear or hadn't heard the version before. She and other people should have actually listened. David was much better anyway.

  • the judges dont even know who chris cornell is. thats how pop happy they are.

  • Do some research!.....

  • Ignorant, ignorant, ignorant....Ryan announced that David Cook was going to do Chris Cornell's version. This newscaster is an idiot.

  • It is true, I heard it...The little gay boy annouced it!

  • this news lady and whoever is this producer of this show is a fucking idiot ..what an embarrassment ...they never said they produced the song or the song is theirs ...they're just singing a cover of it ya idiot ..hhahahhahah

  • This broads a freakin' tool. What a dumbass.

  • ok if anyone payed attention, in his little video before the performance hes says "Im foinf Chris Cornell's version on Billie Jean" idiots these days

  • @KFortier11994 sorry. ryan says it "With Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean, here's David Cook" mah bad. but still it is said that it is Chris Cornell's version. so if people would just pay attention they wouldnt say he stole it. And its not the judges fault that they didnt hear ryan say "Chris Cornell's version..." People are screaming and they can barely hear anything. Its techniclly not stealing. dumbasses

  • @KFortier11994 and even with Eleanor Rigby, its a small town band that no one has heard of so its not needed to say that it was their version. I would be different if a big person, like Chris Cornell, did his rendition of Eleanor Rigby. the version actually belongs to Cook now

  • Did you not hear the part where Ryan Seacrest introduced this as Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean? Geez, you'd think CC wrote the damn song the way his fans have been whining about it. Poor Michael Jackson never even got mentioned in Ryan Seacrest's intro.

  • Comment removed

  • David gave credit on the actual show !!!!!!! So look up"libelous statement' before you ever acuse someone of stealing again.

  • She thinks she's sooooooo clever but she doesnt listen. Guess thats why she's on Fox tv.

  • He never claimed that it was his original version. David Cook told everyone that he wanted something different and he liked Chris Cornells version. He is not stealing, they are not allowed to use new material. They have to use previously recorded songs. So they are not stealing covers. When the judges say original they are saying he is not taking the popular version, he is trying something different.

  • I hate this reporter. David Cook Rocks!!!!

  • people don't like people to do well. she talks through her nose and her dialogue is jabber. so many people don't understand discussion; it's the result of not reading.

  • too bad when he is introduced, they say "doing Chris Cornell's version of..."

  • lol

  • uh...he said on American Idol that he got the arrangement from Chris Cornell

  • My goodness! Do you even know what a cover is?

When he was lauded as being original, Randy was speaking about his entire performance, not just version, rendition or arrangement. David Cook was Unique! = Original = DUH!

  • I say so what!

  • this reporter is an idiot

  • I thought he covered chris cornell's version on purpose....

  • I like Cooks version better, and both Chris and David are better than the original...I mean don't get me wrong watching MJ sing and dance Billie Jean is awesome. I just like the slow and bluesy versions...

  • funny because I thought they were all doing covers of other singers songs. isn't that what everybody does on idol? what's the debate? was that really evening news worthy?

  • Actually, I apologize, he did say that on this performance. But my argument over this asinine debate still stands.

  • 1. Those were not Randy's comments for this particular performance.

    2. Cook never said it was his.

For Hell's sakes leave it alone. It is not a big deal. The fact that people get riled up over this crap is absolutely ridiculous.

  • this video is retarted... he never said it was his version moron -.-

  • This lady's an idiot

  • All of the contestants are covering other people's songs...am I missing something? David Cook sounded way better than Chris Cornell's version anyway.

  • @HollyHoodGlitz He didnt sound better sctually. Chris Cornell has a lot more passion and emotion in his voice. Look up a better quality video. This one did not do it justice. And of course Cooks rendition is not original. And yes your def. missing something. Did you not pay attention at all. The judges thought the cover was original.

  • @werm277 I think they thought it was an original idea to do something like that on idol. the three of them have enough music business experience to recognize a song as well known as chris cornells. I do think cooks was better but that's just a matter of opinion. nothing against cornell, he's great. Just happened to like david cooks voice better in this instance. again though I dont think the judges would think that was a total original, just an original idea for that show

  • @SkoobyDoo5150...I totally agree with you...David Cook's voice sounded better to me...I love the song - the original which was sung by MJ and David Cook's version.

  • I don't think I'm missing anything. In my opinion - David Cook's version of the song sounded way better to me than Chris Cornell...

  • What does it matter where he got it?!?! He never claimed that the arrangement was his own. Ugh. I really HATE people who do shit like this.

  • he never claimed any of them where his!!1 this video is retarded

  • No Shit. He never claimed it was his version.

  • i don't really like this version. i love michael jacksons version. this is ok but not that good.

  • and i am blushing about my typing :D

  • She found old news :D

before cook started to sind, there was a sentence like this: ''and here's David Cook with Chris Cornell verwsion of Bilioie Jean''

    lol

she should be blushing in shame now :D

  • @edzilis Your missing the point. I dont think thaty many ppl realized that it was chris cornells rendition. They said it was original. Well its not.

  • 'do you think its fair to use somebody elses cover?"

Thats a stupid question. There are so many songs out there that are covered and covered plenty of times, that AI contestants use. Cornell is a legend in rock vocals, so its not like he was trying to steal someone elses fame.

  • she needs to get a life; it's still the best i've hears.

  • i really dont give a crap cuz cook was amazing that night

  • GASP! David Cook didn't come up with that on his own? OMG! The world is ending! Run! RUN! SAVE YOURSELVES!!!

  • This happens all the time on American Idol ...and Ryan did mention it before he began the song...Clean out ur Freaking ears people !! lol David sounded way better than Chris Conell's version anyway!!

  • @navarrosgirl Your an idiot. your obviously just a stupid american idol fan who cant appreciate good music. Chris Cornell is so much better. David Cook will never amount to Cornell. Face it you stupid bitch

  • wow ... i was sure it was him ... i guess he is not that talented as i thought he was...

  • What on that show isn't a cover? And he said before he did the song it was the Chris Cornell cover.

  • LMAO! Stupid reporter! They refer to him as original because any other contestant would probably have just done the original 'predictable' version - his original version of 'Hello' by Lionel Richie was awesome!

You'd think there wasn't any other news worth reporting! Jeez!

  • so?

  • yes seacrest mentioned it before the performance.....but did the judges hear it?....i don't think so .... would anyone say it was very original when cook's version is just a copy from cornell's......logically not!

  • "With Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean, here's David Cook."

    'Nuff said.

  • this reporter is a moron. they clearly said it was chris cornells version before he ever took the stage. bunch of idiots.

  • yeah stupid reporter doesn't research well she might be busy looking at david's ass than listening or reviewing the show where from the start I heard Ryan mentioned chris cornell

  • michael jacksons version is way better

  • the reporter is a Dumb Moron Ryan CLEARLY SAID IT WAS CORNELLS's

  • This woman is a fucking moron. The judges may have assumed he arranged it out of ignorance, but as TTnCA said, Ryan stated in his introduction that it was Chris Cornell's version. Regardless of the fact that it wasn't HIS arrangement, he delivered beautifully!

  • She has no ears or research skills. It was clearly stated before David performed that it was "Chris Cornell's version". Replay Seacrest's intro foooolio :O

  • @TTnCA Amen to that! I heard Ryan say it and so did the rest of the world. Also, Chris C., who should have been upset if there was no credit given, wasn't. So he clearly heard the credit given also.

  • SHUUUT UP MY FAVORIT IDOLS ARE CHRIS & DAVID SOO WHAT THE POINT IN THE GOOD VOICE AND HE DIDN'T SAY THAT HE OWN iT GUUD!! THE DON'T HAVE A THING TO SEARCH 4 Ecsept that ?!! search 4 some thing good or just shut the fukin up !!

  • @miss07lwaa come again?

  • what u meain by come again ??!!

  • I don't think David Cook really ever said that it was an original arrangement. They assumed. He should still get major points for picking the version that most compliments his voice. After all, isn't this primarily a competition based on vocal performance?

  • nothing to do in life, that's her problem

Anyway can you sing like him??? (don't think so)

  • Comment removed

  • So, why does she have it out for Cook? Did her favorite lose that year? She is stupid with her information.

  • DAVID COOK DIDNT STEAL ANYTHING.

he is an amazing artist, and i love himm.

if i remember correctly he even said his arrangment was by chris cornell. and the originality that the judges talk about is his voice. i mean not many guys can sing like that. this lady needs to brush up on her facts if she ever wants to be a successful reporter. he wouldnt take credit for something he didnt do, and hes done way more than chris cornell anyways(:

  • @xobritneylovelyxo Wow, really? You should look up Chris Cornell sometime, pretty sure he has done a little more with his career than David Cook...

  • Amazing how easily humans become jealous and envious. For those of low intelligence and common sense ... a) David never claimed to have originated anything. b) He gave a legendary and unsurpassed performance of that song, that will last longer in history than Chris Cornell's. c) It was his personality, sound, and performances that stole the hearts of those watching. Which lead to 12 million votes placing him as the winner.

  • This is immature.

  • Every song that is sung on American Idol is a cover or a cover's cover. I can't recall them ever asking them to compose an original song and sing it live. The whole show is based upon "stealing" another classic song writers material and seeing how well they can reproduce it in front of a live studio audience.

  • There was never a coverup. It was announced as Cornell's version. Duh. Also, Cook gave credit to Doxology for Eleanor Rigby in an interview but it got edited by the producers. I don't think Cook borrowed "Hello" from Incubus. I think it's a coincidence that they are a little similar. Plus, I don't think the Eleanor Rigby arrangement was very good. Cook's own arrangements like Always Be My Baby, Baba O Reilly and All I really need is You were 10x better than that Doxology crap he borrowed.

  • if people paid more attention, they wouldve realized that ryan seacrest said "singing Chris Cornell's version"

but for doxology's "eleanor rigby" he really didn't give any credit until doxology and blake lewis mentioned it in interviews and then he started mentioning it on tv. (although i suspect he might have given credit in the beginning only that Fox might have edited it out like they always do)

so really, both ways, he did give credit sooner or later.

  • I think it's wrong to steal other people's covers but in a funny way it probably gave doxology more attention. In this situation it is better for there career.

  • Duh, but who cares? He did a kick ass job singing it, performers sing other performers songs all the time, and most of the time exactly the same way... Now David Cook is a rocker, so singing it in a pop michael jackson voice would have sounded terrible. So whats the big deal?

  • First off, I don't think David was ready to sing the original cause he doesn't strike me as that type. Second, is this show a karaoke show or a creative show? David mentioned the people that he borrowed the style from. He would NEVER take the credit if it wasn't his work.

  • no actually he is married and has 2 or 3 kids. you moron he he

  • Haha! FAIL, to you mrs "I know bettah"

  • ryan said when he did the intro doing chris cornells verison of billie jean here is david cook. ALSO chris wrote Light on for david cook. so wow dont you think if he stole something from chris that he wouldnt write a huge hit for the guy

  • what the hell, cook never said he 'invented' this cover and either did the judges, his simply covered cornells.......

    derrr.

  • That "news" woman annoys me. Like many have already said down there below me. American Idol is all about singing other artists music. If they really wanted originality the contestants would have one week to write a song of they're own. NO ONE WOULD WATCH THIS! Most of the "singers" barely have enough real talent to sing their way out of a paper bag, let alone compose original music. Some people are ignorant and shouldn't be allowed to speak on public television.

  • u r absolute right

  • American Idol is all covers. Who gives a crap?

  • I can't believe people are still bitching about this. Clearly Ryan Seacrest said that Cook was doing Chris Cornell's version & obviously Cook told him & gave credit. Can't help it Randy didn't know or listen to Seacrest. Cook gave credit for Eleanor Rigby on the little clips prior to the show & the producers cut it out so what the heck more could he do. Then he had to officially give credit because the producers put him in that predicament.

  • Yes the reporter is wrong, Ryan Seacrest stated that it was Chris Cornell's version. People just trying to stir up shit.

  • this journalist is wrong. the judges knew that this version belongs to chris chornell! and the they even said it on the show! what an ignorant ridiculous journalist!! hahahah

  • But it's coming from fox...so of course they don't give all the information, or know what they're talking about. lol

  • what a hater

  • this reporter is really stupid!!! EVERYONE knows that david cook got it from chris cornell, he said it on the show who he got the songs from everytime.

  • This is retarded. David Cook said it was Chris Cornell's version and even gave him kudos.

And there were plenty of other songs he did that were is own arrangements. Such as "Hello," "Little Sparrow," and "Always Be My Baby."

  • Just to set the record straight his version of "Hello." was actually recorded by Incubus but he also gave credit to them. Yeah I agree though this is retarded because David cook gave credit to artists who's arrangement he borrowed he wasn't trying to steal from them.

  • Okay, the Fugees who sung their more popular version of Killing me softly or Aretha Franklin who sung her way more popular version of Respect need to be call thieves then. Wow. This woman shouldn't have even asked the question. Of course you can do covers! Some songs have been covered so many times that people haven't heard the original.

  • Comment removed

  • they are all just jealous!!! david sung it better than them

  • well this is stupid cause if you see the original video from britain's got talent the presenter says "chris cornell's version of billie jean, here's david cook" (i can't find the video here, propably was deleted!)!i'll post it if i find it!So please do some research before publishing this stuff! David has a great voice..It's not bad recording this version which by the way did't recognise it his own!

  • what a bunch of idiots

  • cook does it better

  • They never said it was his Ryan said before he sung it Chris Cornell's version of billy jean, David Cook. Wow these people are stupid.

  • they are just jealous of cook's voice

  • idiots....

  • Bet this girl reporter feels like such a cock now lol

  • both the person thats posted this video and the host of that tv show are idiots...

Ryan seacrest even said "With Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean here's David Cook"

    idiots

  • heya gaiolinn

you listened... so did i but i guess loadsa ppl didn... they just wanted to criticise. and in fairness... david cook did something that chris cornell couldn't do.... he took a huge step further in the way he sang it.

    good wishes

    robbie

  • Are you frikin kidding me?? obviously most of you dont watch A.I u just watch performances. HE said during the show, im doing chris cornells version of billie jean. Chris cornell called david and told him he did a good job. Chris knows and david asked iff he could do that song. So get your fukkin facts right. God people ae dumb.

  • fuck! why its only now i ever seen this...wahhhhh never mind... this bitch aint supposed to critic somebody without doing "ALL THE NECESSARY RESEARCH" the way she talked as if she was really fucking sure.... shit.... who hired her???
