@Georged811 I'm not sure if it's currently available but I'm fairly sure I used to have this version on a Vogue 7" EP called "The Gerry Mulligan Quartet'" That certainly sounds like Mulligan on baritone sax. That line-up were unusual at the time (early 50s) for a quartet as they didn't have a piano.
I'm in seattle, in a cafe it is raining, and I am on coffee and xanax, and I am writing my novel on my laptop, and I can't think of a better piece of music than this one at this perfect moment.
I'm sorry did @methodically0mental bring up the deftones in the context of this? i'm shocked but intrigued. how do your deftones memories compare with the ones this evokes?
But, I do prefer the version from Chet Baker Sings. I think the copyright keeps it from youtube. It is somehow, amazingly, more heart wrenching to hear him sing it.
This reminds me of this beautiful Irish girl I use to know named Moira Dougherty. Dirty blonde hair, tall girl, 5'10" big brown eyes...and when we would go out every Saturday night she would order "rye"...Never whiskey, It was always "rye" as if she was ordering bread, and she would tell me how she almost became a nun but then she became pregnant, then she lost the child miscarriage, and she would sing me her blues.
@methodically0mental - Tell me about it. EVERY thing I have ever heard from this man instanty brings up a specific moment in my life that comes to me more clear than the highest clearist definition of any HD video. It''s incredible, it's as if he minds rapes me from beyond the grave and exposes it for all to see.
@JamesTKirkCobain That's beautiful.. And true... Very few artists have the capacity to make you live thorugh their feelings with them. Chino Moreno/Deftones, although a completely different genre, is another one of the few true poets. He is more eloquent than me but describes a sonically visual world that makes us feel that we see the music; that evokes feelings and memories. Pure beauty.
It's a Chet Baker & Stan Getz duet, I got the same one on 45rpm. Stan plays back up until 2:05, then he does his solo part. When I was learning jazz trumpet I used to try and play back up during the Stan Getz solo section, thinking I was Chet himself, filling in.
The thing with Chet Baker is if you listen to him casually, in the background, you might not be terribly impressed with him technically. He never really goes very high or very fast, though he has a gorgeous tone. Then when you really listen, you realize that what he's playing really isn't as easy as it sounds; he's just so cool and nonchalant that you don't even notice that he's hitting some intense notes.
I recently heard this song....and immidiatly i completely fell in love with it, this is my first jazz song that i enjoy very very much and would like to find other songs that sound somewhat similar to this jazz genere
Dear Lee...your version is blocked unfortunately....
I wanna thank you once more for all the gorgeous sharings of tonight and it was a big surprise we have some things in common ...like "So in love"...besides i love your latest vid very much..!!
He leaves me speechless. He is exceptionally smooth, relaxed and fantastico. My favorite song numero uno song. He is the best thing that ever happened in Jazz.
It's definitely on one of the cds in the Chet Baker quadromania "Time after Time". There are two versions of it on the cds, one of which is the one played here.

In the mid 90s a band called the Morphine became indie popular.
The main singer/write, Mark Sandman wrote a piece that begins similar to this and uses a similar use of base and similar melody.
This must have been an influence.
If your curious, the some I am referring to if My Sexy Valentine.
Both are incredible.
A tear for the departed musicians.
