In the mid 90s a band called the Morphine became indie popular.

The main singer/write, Mark Sandman wrote a piece that begins similar to this and uses a similar use of base and similar melody.

This must have been an influence.

@Georged811 I'm not sure if it's currently available but I'm fairly sure I used to have this version on a Vogue 7" EP called "The Gerry Mulligan Quartet'" That certainly sounds like Mulligan on baritone sax. That line-up were unusual at the time (early 50s) for a quartet as they didn't have a piano.

This reminds me of this beautiful Irish girl I use to know named Moira Dougherty. Chino Moreno/Deftones, although a completely different genre, is another one of the few true poets. He is more eloquent than me but describes a sonically visual world that makes us feel that we see the music; that evokes feelings and memories. Pure beauty.

It's a Chet Baker & Stan Getz duet, I got the same one on 45rpm. Stan plays back up until 2:05, then he does his solo part. When I was learning jazz trumpet I used to try and play back up during the Stan Getz solo section, thinking I was Chet himself, filling in.

The thing with Chet Baker is if you listen to him casually, in the background, you might not be terribly impressed with him technically. He never really goes very high or very fast, though he has a gorgeous tone. Then when you really listen, you realize that what he's playing really isn't as easy as it sounds; he's just so cool and nonchalant that you don't even notice that he's hitting some intense notes.
