The COD crash was the result of improperly secured freight. It broke free from the launch shock, slid back creating an imbalance. The plane stalled and fell into the sea. Am told this is the only COD fatality in over 30 yrs.
Assigned pilot refused the flight as unsafe. Transporting a tactical generator. Hotshot (higher ranking) pilot said he could do it. Generator broke from cargo moorings on CAT shot. Loadmaster and backenders probably dead in first three seconds. Generator came forward to get the pilots after it cartwheeled. No survivors.
I can't recall ;) The montage tapes were put together by an instructor put together to teach flight safety, the music was to help keep peoples attention and make it more interesting.
yea happens, there was an f-102 or maybey a 106 that entered a spin pilot punched out ant he jet landed in a field almost intact. there was also an RAF jaguar that had to be shot down by an F-4 after it recovered post ejection
I wanted to give you some info on that S-3 that appeared to fly off without a crew. I was on the Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) when that incident happened. The nose gear collapsed and the crew punched out as it appeared they were going in the drink. For some reason, the pilot did not eject and managed to fly the jet back around to a safe landing in the barricade. He did some pretty amazing flying that night. Sure was interesting to see a replay of that one after all these years.
Thanks a million steveskelton68. I did not know that, and have wondered for years about it. I have seen several other clips of ejections and planes fly off, I was told in some cases they ran out of fuel, and speculated some may have been shot down. Details corrected.
There was a Soviet fighter that crashed into a housing complex in Europe probably after flying hundreds of miles without a pilot.
The accident happened in 1989 onboard the USS John F Kennedy Pilot and NFO ejected safely. We also lost and S-3B on cat shot on that det, only the Senso made it out on that one due to right wing roll off.
The Navy clipped the roll channels on all S-3 Automatic Flight Control Systems after the uncommanded right roll off the cat shot incident. The PLAT video showed the pilot with full left roll commanded (spoilers as well as ailerons) despite the aircraft rolling hard right. We never did learn if a spurious AFCS signal was the cause of this and another similar incident.
I see how you could think that. It makes more sense they got the video from me. The montage I posted is over 2 decades old. Breathtaking Military Crash Videos is on DVD, I don't see any indications it ever was on VHS. I don't think there really was DVDs 2 decades ago. Hehe
Breathtaking Military Crash Videos has a lot of the same footage as the montages I posted, but in different order. Their video is better then what I posted, evidently they recently accessed better-stored recordings and enhanced them. Mine used to be a lot better quality, but age and EM took it's toll.
I have been figuratively sitting on these most of videos for about 2 decades. The videos were not in good shape to start with. Add 2 decades of EM and age to tapes and there is some degradation. The conversion process has some degradation in the compression especially to overexposed washed out video.
Most of the video I have is on tapes. I live and work in areas with a lot of EM radiation so many of the tapes have deteriorated. Some of the tapes were censored before I received them and I have too before posting. Some audio and video has been tampered with to for sensitivity reasons.
Some of the data has been obscured/ blurred/blocked. A lot of the tapes were bad to start with. Dirty recorders, planes pulling such high Gs the tape is pulled off the head (or locks the recorder), or crash/fire/radar/ECM interference ect...
your p-80 is a T-33.

cajunhornet60: Thanks for your correction. I think someone else may have also pointed out my mistake but I forgot to edit the description.

i agree, it would be ironic to survive a nasty landing like that f-16 only to get hit by a rescue truck.

I was asleep in my compartment under the 2 wire during the A-7 ramp strike on the Midway. The plane was from my squadron.

I was V-4 Div aboard the Bonhomme Richard (CVA-31).
I watched an F-8 ramp strike from the 02 level.
Hell of a mess..it killed the Pilot and a Yellow Shirt.
There is another vid on YouTube that shows an F-8 dunking after a bad Cat Shot..I was on deck for that one too.
Carrier air ops can be dramatic.

Touché. I stand corrected, thanks. Sometimes I confuse similar aircraft like A-7 and F-8. Sometimes I make more embracing goofs.
I edited the video description to A-7.

The F-14 was to far right and ht the nose of the A-6 and the A-7, took 7 feet off the right wing and almost got airborne again.

Sorry I accidentally deleted a question.
Q: What is a censor?
A: Editing suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds.
I try not to let crews full name released (or too much other personal info), or data or info that might be used tactically against the US.

good to finally see some new clips. but, many are very poor quality.
