At present America has nearly 1000 military bases in other peoples countries; it has a military establishment(uniform and civilian) of 2.5 millions on the payroll, a huge navy and airforce. This began in the late 1960s, and by the late 1980s, most of our manufacturing had gone overseas. Today, very little of our manufacturing remains. It didn't start with either Bush, Klinton, or Regan. @thepoet82 are you crazy? its not a matter of opinion. obama already raised the national debt more than bush did in 8 years. clinton did good with the debt but just because he was a democrat it doesn't mean that every democrat is going to do that. the projected national debt by the end of his first term is 20 trillion which is more than double the national debt at the time of bush leaving office. So he will have raised the debt more than every other president combined.

Clinton's budget could be balanced on discretionary spending, Obama's budget must be balanced on entitlement programs. During Clinton, we had a suplus of $500 billions, but Bush just left the Presidency with $4 trillions of Federal Deficits.
- $2 trillions of our taxes wasted for the illegal Iraq wars.
- $2.3 trillions of our taxes stolen during the Bush Administrtion and the missing trillions was admitted by Rumsfeld.
On the other hand, Obama is spending 1 trillion for Wall street and 1 trillion for main street healthcare/infrastrucrure.

When Bush was president, they didn't allow somebody to have concealed weapons, or weapons period, they kicked them out of the rallies, for just wearing the wrong shirts. The men with the weapons, were "outside" the perimeter, I thought bullets could travel a long way, wasn't Lee Harvey Oswald out of the "perimeter".

Just my 2 cents, it seems the spending on programs to help our country with it economy (among other things) is increasing the deficit we'll have to pay.
This just popped into my head, but don't you have to spend money to make money?
I guess my thought is that while increasing what we need to pay, the programs will help us pay it off faster than if they weren't created, even with the money you would have saved by not creating them.
Just my 2 cents.

Shrapnel, yes, that's more or less the rationale that's going into this whole thing but really in the end it's a bunch of bullshit. If you were very in debt yourself, what would you do? You probably wouldn't go out and buy a new business, would you? No, you would stop spending as much money and try to increase your income without putting more money into it, such as taking up an extra job. The government is doing everything that's the opposite of that though. Remember, it's not THEIR money.

Wasn't the New Deal like this? Spending money and putting a lot of people into new jobs or jobs that had previously been neglected? (I think of road services and other things like that) Although, I hear a lot of people criticize the New Deal, when didn't it cut unemployment by something like 40%? I don't know... That may not have picked us up out of the depression, but it sounds like it sure did a hell of a lot of good... Im honestly not an expert, fill me in as necessary. Thanks

Mmm, no, the New Deal was not as effective as people make it out to be. Keynesian economics has proven to be ineffective time and time again. A video by the Cato Institute which you can watch on YouTube explains this very clearly.
Stimulating the economy isn't a bad thing in itself; it's the method of doing this which is not only ineffective but harmful. SPENDING more while you're in debt? Common sense says this is a bonehead move. You don't need a degree in economics to see this.

Umm, yes, we SHOULD cut costs. The American people don't vote for the creation of government jobs. Homeland Security and the bailouts, for example, were voted in by the politicians, not the people. The government is largely responsible for the housing bubble by creating artificially lower interest rates. Now they're trying to re-inflate the bubble. The government could DEFINITELY cut a lot of spending.
