Wow the karaoke machines nowadays are way more sophisticated!! Back in the day we had to look for the corresponding number in the catalog and then punch it in...lol Oh, good days... By the way I lived in Hirosaki for a year in 98.
I heard twice in the karaoke place somebody playing salsa(spanish) music. I heard the Japanese were big fans of the music, but never would expect it to hear it randomly played there like that.
My question is, do you really hear people playing salsa a lot?
Wonderfull video. Your life looks fun. I want to go live in Japan so bad. I would love to get my MBA there. We'll see. Meanwhile i'll live in Japan through your videos! Cheers!
your videos are getting better and better with every post, I'm enjoying a beer as i watch this and its not the Alexander kieths thats talking but; your videos make me feel good for some reason, thanks for representing BC the way it should be. Jesse says thanks from Prince Rupert BC...do you get many canadian imports over there? bless
jesserai: Thanks bunches for the comment! I haven't been as far as Rupert... gotta get over there someday. And I gotta tell ya, one of the few major complaints I have about Japan is that there isn't a drop of Canadian beer or wine here. Lots of Canadian whiskey... but I am not a big whiskey fan.
You are so much cooler compare to my Spanish friend in Japan. I saw my friend's pictures in Japan and he looks like he's in a 3rd world country. I don't know why.
I really enjoy the few videos that I have seen. You have a great personality and make it easy to not lose interest. I am trying to learn Japanese for a visit next year, and would like to live and work in Japan if the visit goes well. I had a question that I never really considered before. Is it hard to date there? Do you usually find yourself limited to other non-japanese persons? Oh! Your students seem older. Is there a penpal program for persons wishing to learn the other's langauge? :)
jlwatl: Thanks for the comment! As for dating, it really seems no different than back home. I am engaged to a Japanese, and I have met lots of couples who are Japanese/foreigner.
As for penpal program, try to join a Japanese version of Facebook called MIXI. (Google it). It would be a great way to correspond with a variety of folks in Japanese.
I love y'all singing the little mermaid. Now that's funny and cute. I missed when the girl came in. I lol'd when the girl in the elevator left after she got asked all those question's. Looks like a good time was had! :)
Nice video man, cant remember If you remember me but I sent you an email a while back about how I can get to Japan/teaching etc..even live there. Nice one!
i'm not sure if my other comment posted to pt 2. but i have a question... i'm looking at japan if i want to teach english there or not, and i was wondering if it's even feasible to be a vegetarian and live there. arigato!
AOEGuy: Thanks for the comments! Oh, so as for vegetarianism in Japan... it's a little tough if you don't at least eat fish, or fish broth or what-have-you. But I had a friend who was vegan living here -- they used the term "food alergy" rather than try to explain the extent of their vegetarianism. It helped since a lot of Japanese think vegetarian just means "no red meat".
want to say thanks for the great series of videos so far. Thank you.
just 2 questions.
i'm about to finish my last year at university and I wondered how old were you when you went to japan, did you need any experience at that type of work (teaching) or travelling and getting used to a different way of life and technology.
The other questions is, in an average size place like you were in, is it likely to have another English speaker/traveller living there to help you get settled in.
freedomshouldbefree: Thanks! I applied for the JET program when I was 26. The only pre-requisite was a 4 year degree... no experience necessary (although the application process is fairly lengthy).
There was lots and lots of help. I have met people from all over the world while working here in Japan. It really brings people together!
Ah wicked! You sang the 69 song!Weezer Rock!^,^Just have a question.I am doing a degree but it's only 3 years...you said *points up* that 4 years are required,so do you know if I'm still eligible for JET?
yo! joel here (^-^) as long as it's at least a bachelors degree (pretty sure AD's won't cut it), you should be cool. but check with your local JET office to be sure.
NullnV01d: Hi again Null... thanks! Football is HUGE in Japan, so you see all sorts of jerseys. But I believe he was wearing the Japan national team shirt. Maybe someone else can confirm.
Thanks for the video! I did a presentation on the origins of karaoke in a Japanese conversational class. Did you know the original Japanese inventor of karaoke failed to patent it and instead a man from the P.I. owns the patent?
