  • Ghostkri: Thanks! Yup, still over here =)

  • @Posatrocible how about now............

  • hahah nice vid! some ppl smoke in karaoke... i dont like smeru' :D

  • Karaoke is like the stereotypical for Japan.

    And I hate karaoke. :p

  • who is your daddy? and what does he do? .... lol!

  • So they spell out the English lyrics phonetically in katakana? Do many Japanese who don't speak English ever wonder what the words mean?

    Anyway, cool vid!

  • whats the song at the beginning of the video called?

  • wow, real informative :)! Thank you for making. ^_^! It was enjoyable too, not a tortuous lesson.

  • CUTENESS!!!!

  • It'd be funny if they recorded everyone singing and played it outside when you were singing... haha

  • I love your videos! They are so well made I feel like I'm living the experience too.

    Weezer rules.

  • Shimogori!!! That's where i want to teach!

  • lol u r hilarous!!!!!

  • Is joel single? lol

  • Yup! Or at least I think so... =)

  • Wow the karaoke machines nowadays are way more sophisticated!! Back in the day we had to look for the corresponding number in the catalog and then punch it in...lol Oh, good days... By the way I lived in Hirosaki for a year in 98.

  • I was surprised when I heard japanese people singing My Chemical Romance songs on karaoke, they are favorite band--

  • I heard twice in the karaoke place somebody playing salsa(spanish) music. I heard the Japanese were big fans of the music, but never would expect it to hear it randomly played there like that.

My question is, do you really hear people playing salsa a lot?

if so, ill fit right in :)

  • could I come with u next time? xD

  • This video was hilarious. Especially when you sang the little mermaid.

  • do u have a japanese keyboard?

  • That's a lot of fun for the price of four beers in Vancouver lol

  • Wonderfull video. Your life looks fun. I want to go live in Japan so bad. I would love to get my MBA there. We'll see. Meanwhile i'll live in Japan through your videos! Cheers!

  • your videos are getting better and better with every post, I'm enjoying a beer as i watch this and its not the Alexander kieths thats talking but; your videos make me feel good for some reason, thanks for representing BC the way it should be. Jesse says thanks from Prince Rupert BC...do you get many canadian imports over there? bless

  • jesserai: Thanks bunches for the comment! I haven't been as far as Rupert... gotta get over there someday. And I gotta tell ya, one of the few major complaints I have about Japan is that there isn't a drop of Canadian beer or wine here. Lots of Canadian whiskey... but I am not a big whiskey fan.

Thanks again, all the best to ya.

  • You are so much cooler compare to my Spanish friend in Japan. I saw my friend's pictures in Japan and he looks like he's in a 3rd world country. I don't know why.

  • wow...that seems like soooo much fun! :D

I will definatly have to do that once I goto Japan! :P

  • Great! Ty for the wonderful information, and congratulations!!! :>

  • I really enjoy the few videos that I have seen. You have a great personality and make it easy to not lose interest. I am trying to learn Japanese for a visit next year, and would like to live and work in Japan if the visit goes well. I had a question that I never really considered before. Is it hard to date there? Do you usually find yourself limited to other non-japanese persons? Oh! Your students seem older. Is there a penpal program for persons wishing to learn the other's langauge? :)

  • jlwatl: Thanks for the comment! As for dating, it really seems no different than back home. I am engaged to a Japanese, and I have met lots of couples who are Japanese/foreigner.

As for penpal program, try to join a Japanese version of Facebook called MIXI. (Google it). It would be a great way to correspond with a variety of folks in Japanese.

  • I love y'all singing the little mermaid. Now that's funny and cute. I missed when the girl came in. I lol'd when the girl in the elevator left after she got asked all those question's. Looks like a good time was had! :)

  • LittlePinky82: Thanks very much for the comment! Yeah, the odd children's song usually slips it way into an evening of karaoke. なつかしい から!

I really grilled that poor girl with Arni-prank-call questions! I cringed watching it the next morning, but it got funnier as time passed, hehe.

  • awesome -- beastie boys

  • I envy you, such a good life lol. Keep us posted with more videos :)

  • ya seem really wasted at 12:41 lol

  • WHO IS YOUR DADDY NAD WHAT DOES HE DO !!! LOLLLLLOLLL! - arnie prank calls rofl

  • Nice video man, cant remember If you remember me but I sent you an email a while back about how I can get to Japan/teaching etc..even live there. Nice one!

  • Please keep posting vids like this. Thanks! *****

  • ohh..!! why was there Cyrillic at the end on the elevator door?

  • nice vid! ^ ^thank you~~~

  • i'm not sure if my other comment posted to pt 2. but i have a question... i'm looking at japan if i want to teach english there or not, and i was wondering if it's even feasible to be a vegetarian and live there. arigato!

  • AOEGuy: Thanks for the comments! Oh, so as for vegetarianism in Japan... it's a little tough if you don't at least eat fish, or fish broth or what-have-you. But I had a friend who was vegan living here -- they used the term "food alergy" rather than try to explain the extent of their vegetarianism. It helped since a lot of Japanese think vegetarian just means "no red meat".

  • do they have chicken or beef?

  • Its ok to be a pervert just

    not a

    hopeless pervert.

    Some one

    get me a BeEr

  • Hey Matt! I sent you a message asking about JET interviews. If you have time, can you please get back to me? Thanks! =)

  • Love your videos!! Keep up the good work ^ ^!! Can't wait for the next one :P

  • want to say thanks for the great series of videos so far. Thank you.

    just 2 questions.

i'm about to finish my last year at university and I wondered how old were you when you went to japan, did you need any experience at that type of work (teaching) or travelling and getting used to a different way of life and technology.

The other questions is, in an average size place like you were in, is it likely to have another English speaker/traveller living there to help you get settled in.

  • freedomshouldbefree: Thanks! I applied for the JET program when I was 26. The only pre-requisite was a 4 year degree... no experience necessary (although the application process is fairly lengthy).

There was lots and lots of help. I have met people from all over the world while working here in Japan. It really brings people together!

  • thanks a lot for the reply.

your videos have been very helpful. it's always better to see things for yourself then be told about them, so agian thank you.

  • Hey Matt san^^ Dani here!

    Genki deshita!

Ah wicked! You sang the 69 song!Weezer Rock!^,^Just have a question.I am doing a degree but it's only 3 years...you said *points up* that 4 years are required,so do you know if I'm still eligible for JET?

  • yo! joel here (^-^) as long as it's at least a bachelors degree (pretty sure AD's won't cut it), you should be cool. but check with your local JET office to be sure.

  • Thanks for replying! I'll do that ^,^

  • can't wait to travel to japan lol cool.

  • Sorry for the double comment, what was the song at the beginning of the video

    liked the "shes cute"

  • I really like your videos, I'm a new subscriber ^^

Just out of interest if Joel Black?

I can't wait for my first drunken karaoke session with my employees :)

  • afronathan: You'll just have to come and see!!

  • When you say cheers in the video, you put it as "Kunpai" but I learned it as "Kanpai" are there any differences?

  • Bingo!!! You are 100%, completely correct! It's definitely "Kanpai"... that's not right in the video.

    おれはバカです!

  • Nah you're not stupid just a small mistake. You made up for it when you zoomed in on "cleanpoo" that had me laughing for a long time ^.^

    What is clean poo? lol

  • What's up Matt! Thanks for this great & Entertaining video bud, you are teasing us, specially people who love Japan like me :D

Take care & enjoy your time,

    Caesar

    I hope you have a great 2008! :D

  • Hey another great video, thanks for posting. Looks like your planning a series of these (the number 1 gives it away) can't wait :)

By the way is that a guy in a Scotland top I spy at 3:21? Come on the Scots!

  • NullnV01d: Hi again Null... thanks! Football is HUGE in Japan, so you see all sorts of jerseys. But I believe he was wearing the Japan national team shirt. Maybe someone else can confirm.

  • u guys are so cool

not acting like baka gaijins in japan

    maintaining a sense of modesty

    awesome

and why are ALL the girls soo hot and kawaii...

seriousl is there no ugly girl at all in japan?

they all seem like models =)

  • Binghamton2006: Thanks a lot man! =)

  • wow i have never tried karaoke in my entire life... this sounds so cool

  • Another Awesome vid, your still making me want to go there. lol

  • Whats the song in the beginning?

    I like it :D

  • Cabbageninja: Me too! Great karaoke song... it's by Hitomi. "Samurai Drive."

  • I always wonder why people like karaoke so much. I can see now...

    ITS THE ALCOHOL...

  • Awesome video, very informative.

Little Mermaid seems to be a popular choice in karaoke.

  • Great vid. Looking forward to more, thanks very much for making them!

  • Thanks for the video! I did a presentation on the origins of karaoke in a Japanese conversational class. Did you know the original Japanese inventor of karaoke failed to patent it and instead a man from the P.I. owns the patent?

  • I didn't know that! Ouch to the inventor...

  • Nice, nice, looks like u had fun ^_^

  • Awesome new video :) I always appreciate these cultural / informative things.

  • Haha, Matt was pretty drunk after the karaoke.

    Is that Joel's family?

  • Demonemil765: heya! Yeah, I was a bit toasted, eh? Joel's family didn't appear... although his brother was kicking butt all over karaoke earlier in the year.

  • kevinwhat: Thanks Kev! =)

  • what's the name of the first song? BTW AWESOME VIDEO keep doing this 5 stars

  • rasenganadept: Thanks and good question! I actually meant to put in a title near the start to include the name of the artist/song... it's one of our favorite to sing in karaoke! It's "Hitomi" and her song Samurai Drive.

  • You had me at Weezer.

  • furiizu: Weezer rules! Did you see how many songs Lagu Lagu has of them!? Awesome... (not all karaoke boxes have such a good selection of Weezer)

  • Haha. What an amazing video!

I was in Japan last month and went overboard with the karaoke/drinking stuff. Best vacation ever!! I want to go back...

  • distillerdude: It's fun, isn't it! Thanks for the comment... hope you get back to karaoke-ing soon. =)

  • LOVED IT

  • Thanks summer!
