I was watching an interview about the death of Optimus in the original movie and they said if they remade the film, they probably wouldn't kill him again. That along with this animation and I will die the happiest guy on Earth.

What was this CG footage actually from. I also saw that some1 had done an amazing job @ making a Voltron Live Actio/Computer Generated teaser trailer. Wondered if there was ANY posability that it may have been real. I LOVE VOLTRON: Defender of the Universe. The teaser was of the best series, King of Beast: GoLion (Origional name). I swear it made the Transforers movie look like it was made with software that was outdated @least 5 years B4.
It mat have also been based apon Voltron Force. My bad 4 not giving it recognition. Isn't it based on the origional series anyway?!? I also wondered 4 a long time if there were several series due 2 a competition with Gumdam. I prefered the 8th MS team over ALL the rest. SD defenders sucked with gumdamns. I like my Chibi 2 B still Images or a GIF @ most.
I thought Michael Bay did a great job of updating Optimus Prime, he looks more gritty and realistic but with the same overall design as the original, but why couldn't Megatron look more like this?! I mean, here, he actually looks like... well, MEGATRON! In the new ones he looks strangely bestial and more generic than the original, streamlined, and expressive design.
Anyhow, awesome action scene, I hope if they do a different trilogy, prequel, or reboot, they look like this.

there's never going to be a G1 motion picture just face it. -_- there may be something resembling G1 (story) but the way optimus and the others look is always going to be modern. 2 thoughts on this. 1) This is better then Bay's version imho because Megatron and Optimus look the same from the movie but with a few tasteful yet subtle additions. and 2) because the bots were rendered as such, you can actually see them fighting. I mean you can actually tell there is 2 different bots fighting and not just a giant lump of metal clinging anfd clanging like it was in Bay's version.
@Volkai AGAINST Bay though: They are a technological species. Not Techno-Organic, not Organic. Just Techno. The other thing is viability, Bay's robots seem a LOT more vulnerable just by their design.
Basically: Marvel/Dreamwave/etc Transformers look like Giant Robots.
Bay Transformers look like Giant Aliens with fitted armor.
@Volkai Yes but when even Bay's TF's "scan" locals for their new alt forms, even their robot forms change somewhat (Bumblebee in the 1st film, the Twins in ROTF).
Doesn't matter if they're alien or not. The scanning process can change their look to something more earth-like (G1 familiar) simply from what they are scanning.

@Marobot This plays to nostalgia much better, though. It's the Optimus Prime and Megatron everyone recognizes from the 80s.
And if G1 Optimus Prime vs. G1 Megatron is what you're looking for, then this looks MUCH better than 'Bayformers', regardless of how the newer movies stand on their own.

Well think on this: Some of the actual toys in the 80's did not psyhically match the characters in the cartoon very well either, but the cartoon was how we identified them...meaning a better medium between reality and function could have been achieved than those horrible ginzu gargoyles M.Bay came up with. agundis, i think optimus with a mouth is fine, he had one in g1, problem is, g1, it was a flexible mouth, they didn't need mouthes while on cybertron, but they had to connect with humans. why the decepticons needed mouthes? teletran 1 decided. the bay optimus was BAD in that the lips were metal plates...but they could make fuzzy dice and soft leather seats! wtf? edit bays movie to include real lips!

Nah, It looks ok there sure, but there are no humans in any of those shots. You put those boxy 80's style cartoon transformers in a live action movie juxtaposed with real human actors and it would look absolutely ridiculous.
After watching this, I can't see how Bay could think these G1 designs wouldn't work. This looks not only FINE to me, but freaking AWESOME. Alas, the public has spoken, and we will never see a movie like this one in theaters.

You're wrong, I didn't say that G1 designs will work on live action sequences, Bay's design are much more realistic than what appears in this video which is more like a Pixar movie, realistically rendered but with cartoonic/anime proportion.
And don't forget that Bay's TF movies are totally different TF storyline and it's no way connected to G1 storyline so it's natural to give the TF bots a new more realistic look rather than reusing the G1 designs which is very typical anime mecha design and obviously borrowed from an old japanese toyline.

I feel opposite that the movie robots look very UN-realistic; however these are fantasy robots, so what's "realistic"? It's a matter of taste and iconicism. Transformers have an iconic look. Stray too far from that look and it's no longer representative of what it originally stood for. The movies might as well have been called the GoBots; it wouldn't have changed a thing. But to each their own.

AMAZING stuff! Now this is what the live/cgi movie SHOULD have been... I don't mind changes to the designs, so long as they are at least close to the characters (Animated gets the 'reimagining' idea right, IMO). I loved seeing this CG version of the classic fight, and think it proves totally that the old designs could easily have worked in a big budget movie instead of a bunch of technical Lego as sidekicks to a bunch of annoying humans.

At least Bay backed the camera up somewhat in teh 2nd movie and did more slo mo shots so we could discern what was happening,
sure that CU/fast cut style works for energetic human shots, but METAL ROBOTS FIGHTING is all a metallic blur like that!

And in terms of Designs...Yeah these transformers are impressive. It's not the "oh original must be best", I loved the TF:Animated appearences too.
It's the shape really. Bay's robots break apart in to many places to the point where they look like scrap statues.
The Bayformers look like Aliens, not Robots. Nough said.

Well think on this: Some of the actual toys in the 80's did not psyhically match the characters in the cartoon very well either, but the cartoon was how we identified them...meaning a better medium between reality and function could have been achieved than those horrible ginzu gargoyles M.Bay came up with. agundis, i think optimus with a mouth is fine, he had one in g1, problem is, g1, it was a flexible mouth, they didn't need mouthes while on cybertron, but they had to connect with humans. why the decepticons needed mouthes? teletran 1 decided. the bay optimus was BAD in that the lips were metal plates...but they could make fuzzy dice and soft leather seats! wtf? edit bays movie to include real lips!

Why in the hell didn't Michael Bay stick to these designs? Instead we get a cluttered mess that looks like spare junk parts pasted together rummaging around with a hack director that causes nausea while watching the action sequences. THIS needs to get out to Hollywood and make a reboot of the franchise.
Don't get me wrong, nice "summer" movie but Bay's versions were NOT the real Transformers we all grew up with. Stick to the original material and source and you'll be fine.

"Look more realistic" and (paraphrasing here) "looking more like aliens" are really subjective things. I feel opposite that the movie robots look very UN-realistic; however these are fantasy robots, so what's "realistic"? It's a matter of taste and iconicism. Transformers have an iconic look. Stray too far from that look and it's no longer representative of what it originally stood for. The movies might as well have been called the GoBots; it wouldn't have changed a thing. But to each their own.

AMAZING stuff! Now this is what the live/cgi movie SHOULD have been... I don't mind changes to the designs, so long as they are at least close to the characters (Animated gets the 'reimagining' idea right, IMO). I loved seeing this CG version of the classic fight, and think it proves totally that the old designs could easily have worked in a big budget movie instead of a bunch of technical Lego as sidekicks to a bunch of annoying humans.
