I think I've developed a Knut addiction! I can't stop watching him, he makes me so happy he's so sweet - even when he's a big bear he's still so cute!

The thing is that this bear will be imprinted (i think this is the word) towards humans, he will consider humans his species and act accordingly. This means he can be agressive with humans (because the male bears are solitaire individuals and agressive with eachother). He will spend all his life in the zoo as a friendly bear with humans, but caution must be preserved.
Polar bears are becoming extinct...it's happening before our eyes. These gorgeous white bears are turning brown because their snowy environments are disappearing. It's more important for us to focus our energy on reversing the effects of global warming - to save all species, including our own - rather than fighting for one polar bear to be thrown into the wilderness where he has zero chance of surviving.
If one ever looks at discovery channel or national geographic channel, the polar bears are in danger of becoming distinct, because of global warming. never heard of these but yeah that sounds very bad too - probably worse, but polar bears depend on large open terrains more than most other species, they really dont belong in zoos, for now knut is ok and yeah - hopefully all this early imprinting will get him more used to these conditions

yes they're certainly out of thier element, but knut is better off there, i think. He'll be good. That zoo is thier home, they don't know anything they're safe and I appreciate that. Because of global warming, the ice is melting and some of them aare drowing, so i think they're good there. I love Knut!! thanks for responding.

first of all, you cant go killing an endangered animal. If they can start a strong breeding program they could help save the polar bear. The baby seems happy enough and has a pretty large area outside for when it's older. If it wasn't happy, it'd just lie around all day and do nothing.

I don't buy that "we don't interfere with nature" crap. Humans have overpopulated the planet, encroached on animal territory, and brought many umbrella species to the brink of extinction. Releasing Knut into his natural habitat would be the true definition of cruel. It would mean that he'll die a slow, painful death by starvation or by being dinner for another bear. We can't interfere with nature to help, but it's ok to do so to hunt game or bash the brains of baby seals?

We should not do anything. Humans have definitely enroached on their territory and need to leave them alone. Gnut should have been originally living in his own habitat. Its the humans fault for taking his mother into captivity. Overall humans are to blame for everything.
