if daryle would've been singing back about 30-40 years ago i dont think its a stretch to say he'd rank right up there with marty, lefty, merle, or hank. he just nails everything he sings, one of the greatest voices!
@msclecarcrzy he did do johnny proud, when i first seen this clip i thought to myself that noone could else could sing this song right but i must say he did a heck of a job with this song
I am glad i was raised on this kinda of country music!!.....absolutely amazing!....He blew all these bubble gum pop so called country musicians out of the water!
I agree with noshow 100% . I love this video. I wish I was sit'n there in the room , with all those country greats. How much fun that would be. I am also 46 and traditional country is my thing. I am singer / songwriter and traditional is all I do. Thank you CallMeCountry1 for share'n this great video. Bud
This is the soul of country music. Both this version and Johnny Paycheck's acoustic version, should give all of us pause to consider our life and what we value. I know that old violin; I am there. All I want to do til the day they plant my corpse is play music. It is my soul.
A lovely voice a lovely man, thanks to postings I have heard him for the first time' I do agree he should be up there with the best. I thiught at first he sounded much like Merle Haggard, lets hear much more of him.
Yes, he is very under-rated, and the comparison in his voice to Keith Whitley is amazing, another one who was under-rated. Here's hoping that true country music will hold onto it's roots and there will be a true revival in Nashville: no Taylor, please!! It truly has become all about the money. You can tell a good artist/song because they have lived it. What do you know about life's struggles 'at fifteen?'
@porander Hi, I live in Daryls hometown of Cairo, GA. He spends a lot more time here these days but he's still doing shows all around. He used to tell everyone that he was gonna be a country singer when he was in school. He was right. He is without a doubt blessed with a pure country voice.
singers like Daryle is what makes country music country seen him this past weekend in Renfro Vally and he was great would do it again. This is the music i listen to all day
Ive ALWAYS and WILL ALWAYS only play the Classic COUNTRY music. Done it since '79! Wont play this CRAP coming outta Nashville NOPE ,wont do it! Daryle is a KILLER singer for sure. Man I put him up there with Keith Whitley and others for sure!
most so called country singers today could not sing a Payckeck if they had to.thanks to Daryel showing respect to the late great Paycheck.enjoyed the posting and GOD BLESS.
i had the pleasure to have a cold beer in 1998 with darryl at the tacoma dome in tacoma washington as he opened for clay walker.i still have the shirt he signed and hat as well and were it with pride as he is the most underated country singer i have ever came across.keep in mind i am a haggard fan my #1.come back to the northwest darryl
im 25 yrs old. i grew up listening to this type of country. i hate the new stuff that they call "country". it aint country, its hick pop. this is the first ive heard of Darryl Singletary. he is awesome. but he can never match to Johnny Paycheck in this song. dont get me wrong im not putting him down, but this is Johnny's song
do you have daryles' version of the song "Kay" to post? it is an over looked country classic that daryle does a beautiful job on too!!!!! he is a fantastic entertainer!!!!
I love Daryle, truly has the greatest voice perhaps ever. That country radio no longer plays country music is a sin. That Daryle is not the #1 music star in the world is something. The most under rated singer ever.
Hopefully one day the Country Music Hall of Fame will be inducting Daryle.
This song brings tears, the record of this, with Johnny Paycheck's last recorded words at the very end...Love you Daryle, please keep singing and releasing new songs. You are the best.
This is OUTSTANDING thank you SO MUCH for this post, I'm sad to see Ralph Emery in that shape but he's also given his life to music.. although Johnny Paycheck (whom the song was tributed to) says.. give our all to music and soon.. unfortunately we will lose them.. THANK you for this TIMELESS POST!
To borrow from a George Jones song title :Who's gonna Fill Their Shoes ?" Daryle is part of that answer. Another question, Is that Ralph Emery close to the end of the video holding back tears ?.
This is country music. I am so fed up with nashville and it's greed factor. Ther are alot of talented people in nashville that just don't fit the look and youthful audience appeal. I'm 46, this is what I want to hear. I buy this music when I can find it. They are killing country music. I wish some radio stations in my area had backbone. I spend $1200.00 per month advertising on our local really hick station. I am proud to spend my money with them. I won't spend a dime with "The Radio People".
I was in a band in the early 90's, signed with Curb. They tried to tell us what to wear, How to comb our hair, and what shoes to wear. Then.....they brought in 10 songs that wasnt ours and told us we had to cut them. I told the to screw off.
I truly agree with you he is great so much better than the crap and I mean crap being played today if it werent for Alan and King George yhere be very little country played thanks for the post of this great song and singer.
I Agree with you ScottsSmith9 this is the last dying breed of the real country music, once its gone no one will match up to our actual country stars. country is not country anymore. This is my favorite song and style of music. but all god thing have to come to an end. but it doesn't meen they will be forgotten. It will go on and be remembered for generations as music with a meaning, And True Country until the end.
Daryl should get real country artists like Josh Turner, Joey and Rory, and start their own tour. I bet it would be a sucessful endeavor.
