1. Change the inside rubber bladder, purchase a plastic bladder from TITLE #SBB, RINGSIDE and/or EVERLAST.
2. Might upgrade the swivel to a seal inner ball-bearing model that makes the swivel much more realistic with its speed of rotations.
3. Your back board needs to have a base of either weight on the top, if, you have a store bought design and/or purchase a circular piece of 3/16 steel plate that can be attach (bolted) to the base.
@codeman95291 Undo the lace, pull he bladder inside-out–might have to cut the seams of the bladder base from the bag–replace plastic bladder. Make sure the top tongue is flush with the seam of the bag–air up ¼ -oosely lace the bag all-the-while making sure tongue keeps bag from rising above and interfering with leather notch that the swivel shaft rides in. laces are pulling bag together which makes the tongue stay low when the bag is fully inflated.
@ptboxing i want to take your advice and get a rubber bladder but i'm not sure if my bag already has a rubber bladder in it or not... the speed bag is a medium elite leather speed bag that's black and it says everlast on it.. but i'm not sure what kind of bladder is in it.. would you know by any chance? and also if it's a medium would that be 11 by 8 in size or what? please let me know thanks
@codeman95291 "yes" you are correct that model of speedbag does come equipped with a rubber bladder but I'm suggesting the replacement of a plastic one instead. Should consider a 6x9 speedbag or even better try a 8x5. I don't believe the bag should be larger for striking purposes because it's about getting as close to realistic as possible - speed equals timing and timing is rhythm
@ptboxing my speed bag is a 9x6.. even though it's not the size you suggest do you think it will work better with a plastic bladder then it would with a rubber one?
@codeman95291 Yep, it's all good. It sounds as if you do have a 6x9 bag and the plastic bladder would be such a difference, you will be amazed. Die-hard tradition's are hard to break but it's the science of the sweetness that counts.... the evolution of this sport has and will always amaze me - give it a try......
@ptboxing i'm gonna take your advice and get a plastic bladder but i'm not sure if my bag already has a plastic bladder in it or not.. i guess i'll have to take it out and find out.. my bag is called an everlast elite leather speedbag it's a medium that's black.. would you happen to know right off the bat what kind of bladder that bag has in it though? and also is a medium speedbag a 10 by 8 in size or what? can you let me know please thanks
@mjg19999 I suppose in every sport there are some dynamic movements and/or fundamental protocols that mimic actual sport requirements. The speedbag, at its best, represents your ability to hone in on movements and speed that’ll help you achieve precise judgment calls when required to pin-point your opponents moves. I would also hope if your dynamic movements call for actual and realistic mechanics in striking, you’ll choose to mimic the actual technique.
@AcXr50 Andrew - it's the EV 8X5 Pro Speedbag #200806 ESB-2 although the bladder was replaced with a platic bladder through TITLE #SBB. Hope that helps and thanks for the view...
You guys are good. Information and enthusiasm. Two essential elements of a good coach. I know cause I coach boxing as well. Keep up the good work. Glad I found this.
@dmoss010 Thank you, thank you…. It’s been awesome reading peoples speedbag accomplishments through this vid’ – coach to coach \ always pushing, never compromising technical instruction and making it memorable until advancements of their chosen sport is reached.
Nice video definitely getting my plastic bladder ASAP, my bag doesn't rebound as fast as that one and I'm sure the bladder is the reason, Do u have a video for the Double End Bag? if not can u post one? I use my DEB to straighten my jab and footwork but I know there's more I can do with it. Nice jumprope video too btw.
@WesthamDB 1. Create the rhythm you’d like to hear and then mimic the rotations without the hesitation. In fact, it’s your mind set that has halted your progress. Saw it a million times, let it go and practice with abandonment.
2. Close your eyes slowly and listen to the rhythmic noise. When you mess up, open your eyes only to restart the tempo but in fact it’ the noise the bag makes that you’ll listen for and that’ll guide you right into a relaxed tempo of rotations.
Nice video, guys. Thanks for promoting the beauty of punching the speed bag. Great idea featuring a female doing the punching. We need to get more ladies under the board! Good luck with our programming and thanks for helping others.!
@speedbag1 We really do appreciate the positive take on the instruction and wanted to say “thanks.” Caught some footage on your site and have to say, “Well done!” Yep, we’ll keep punch’in along and hope you do the same….
@Crabbapplekid I agree wholeheartedly and I believe he’s “owned it for some time.” Freddie’s awesome and his knowledge is extensive. So, I guess I concur with you, all the best…
I hope you don't think I was trying to be a smart-ass because I wasn't. I'm just a huge fan of Freddie's training techniques! Also I'm 23 and started boxing and I want to get into AM comps and my trainer says I have a lot of potential but I'm having trouble getting my footwork down. What can I do outside of training to perfect my footwork and how much roadwork should i be doing and at what speed?
@Crabbapplekid Skipping rope helps with balance, rhythm, timing and overall motor skills. To practice without a coach is self-defeating being that mistakes might get comfortable and that my friend is where the trouble lays. Give yourself proper time and listen to “your coach” cause when their guidance in the mechanics is implemented it’s to your benefit and only time will enhance your skill. Hope that helps…
@Sh00t1stAskLater Yep, use to but with all of her obligations during business hours that take her into the 7-day-a-week schedule, it’s difficult to say the least to find time to train properly. Think about the morning runs, afternoon weight program, boxing club in the evening and then finding the time to eat well. Give to the boxers out there currently, don’t miss it but well worth the personal goals. Thanks for asking and keep us dialed in when it comes to the instruction of boxing…
@ptboxing yeah man nice video...i'm in the beginning stages of mma but i've always been amazed by the speedbag and am thinking about getting one to test the waters...
