I would say wonderful but I actualy think iy looked kinda bad at that fast of a tempo. Im not criticizing the dancers by any meens cause I do four swans as well, but I think it would have looked better slower.

the only thing i like about it was the speed. and the quickness of the pas de bourrees during the coupes, cos i know how friggin hard that is to do en pointe. but they hardly got off the floor, and towards the end they weren't even pointing their feet! i mean, this is a national ballet!

Why is it fast?

Well as you can hear, the music is going a bit fast and maybe the choreographer (or teacher) wanted this one coz maybe he/she couldn't find another version. So, they're going fast coz the music is going like that.

I never really watched the ballet, but 've been in the orchestra for over a decade and have played parts of Swan Lake (looooove Tchaikovsky) including this iconic part of course, and I can very confidently say, coming from having played this more than once before, that this is definitely the right tempo.

I absolutlely adore this play! And this part is my favorite one, I admire how the dancers can keep up with the tempo, way better than Bolshoi, more in tune with the music, and although i'm not lighting expert, I like the way it looks because you can clearly see their movements....beautiful dancers, so talented, I will forever be amazed at their grace and poise.

Seeing it done at the original tempo is a nice change, I'm not quite sure i liked the lighting. I think more bluish dime lighting would have worked to their advantage and would have worked better with the music than bright lighting. I'm in school for light stage engineer, so its just a personal opinion. But... ya.. original tempo is enjoyable.. some dancers can't keep together at the original tempo.

@Erszi36 when your 14 years old you pretty much have to use profanity when you argue because adults won't listen to you unless you catch their attention with it. and if you listen to ANY of the original recordings on iTunes or any music store, the original tempo is a lot quicker then what many companies use these days only because most directors would rather slow the music down and have the piece a lot cleaner then keep the tempo the same and have the piece a little bit messy.

Thank you so very much for you beautiful response. I know that it can be difficult to be heard when you are young especially when you are passionate about something  you believe. And yes I will agree with you that the tempo of the music is a bit faster when you listen to the recording on iTunes or music stores, but when you are actually dancing this masterpiece, your technique has to be precise along with the artistry that Marius Petipa originally choreographed.

You're correct about the music and the original tempo; however it looks like the dancers are struggling to keep up at this pace. It looked as if they were trying to get it over as quickly as possible. The ABT's version is much better. It takes more skill to perform this dance slower because speed can cover up mistakes.

My theory is the conductor catches the speed from the rythm of the walks coming in for the dance. So if the dancers were walking in at a nervous tempo then this is what they got! But in general, at the Hungarian National Ballet they do this dance way TOO FAST!

i think the song is too fast for these dancerss. i think if it was slowed down, it would look better - it would look more the dancers dancing it well, rather than the dancers actualy being ABLE to dance it. if that makes any sense whatsoever.

butt, very good timing - especially the heads - that as pretty good, most can't keep in timee, and the fact that the girls were the same height and build made it look better. good job! :)
