I would also like to add.... WOW!! I never realized how crazy the syllables are in yodeling. I've sung and played alot of different types of music and I now never envision myself commiting the massive amounts of practice to learn such an intricate style. Yodeling is truly underappreciated!! Thank you for breaking it down and sharing!

IMHO....I think part of finding your own breaking point might be by finding the key which fits your voice. If people sing songs with large ranges (i.e. Star Spangle Banner) in only certain keys and we are classified as soprano/alto/tenor/bass, then yodeling would be unique to each person's voice as well. Maybe a person could find their breaking point without an instrument, then once you get it working.. figure out what key you are near. *not a yodeler... but a music educator*

Everyone has a break in their voice, it just depends where that break is. I'm a low bass in choir, I can hit a low C on good days, and my voice breaks around an F sharp above middle C.

It might help people like me who either just have very little of a break or have trained to hide it.

Try going from your upper register to falsetto.

That's the only break I can find in my voice.

i think its easier to yodel if you're an alto or bass...because your falsetto is very high pitch that differs it a lot to your chest voice...well, but im not assuming

Absolutely great! I think the problem is the word " breakin" - even though it's correct. Some people might think it will destroy their voices over time. Absolutely NOT true.

And yes: even though I am not a singer, I am a musician, knowing a lot about singing - the "breaking" should be felt exactly at the top of the throat as a light "step" or "leap" between chest and head voice. One of the great problems with yodeling is intonation. You might want to address that in the future. Great stuff!

Could you, please, explain more about the voice break point. The thing is when I try your "quint = perfect fifth" exercise "e-i" on different notes of the first octave, my voice automatically tunes to the upper note without breaking. Maybe, it is because of absolute pitch... What can I do to make my voice break between the breast and head registers and how do I feel this breach?
