  • His recent speech at TEDtalks was an excellent example of why Sam is a good spokesman, but Dan Dennet is still the man! =)

  • Why not? Who is better?

  • @senseis1

I think Christopher Hitchens for one presents a better argument for atheism. Harris seems like an angry hothead to me. He gets in trouble saying mean or stupid things. He has a controversy now he is doing damage control on. Check out his website, his book suggested we may need to do a nuclear first strike on Islam. That sounds as bad as the Muslim fanatics themselves.

Well, I always thought the opposite, that Hitchens is more a kind of a demagoge and Harris more rational. But you might be right.

After all, we should be glad that we have free-thinkers like both of them, signs of hope in an ocean of religious doctrinism and stupidity.

  • I am sure it depends somewhat on which book(s) or article(s) you or I may have happened to read from each of them. Hitchens can be a bit of a lush, but when on his game he speaks eloquently. Harris seems like more of an extremist to me. Someone who would rid the world of religion by force if he could. His comments entertaining the idea of a nuclear first strike against the Muslim world turn me off. Sure he said it would be horrible, but he shouldn't have entertained the idea at all.

  • I just don't think this guy is our best spokeperson for atheism.
