  • Looks like a great start!

  • pretty cool

  • Perspective is visually strong and gives dramatic impact.

  • MAKE 'EM BLUE!

  • Make em do the charging up ball thing before they fire! :-p

  • @cdname47: The planet killer already does that... didn't want to overdo the effect! :)

  • @PrfMoriarty Yeah I have no idea how you would anyway, there's no phaser strip on the old series ships, just wanted to see the fanboys rant and rave if you did do something like that.

If it goes to warp, use the TNG stretch warp then lol :-p

  • @USSMariner Sorry dude, but they were orange in the original episode and they were yellow-orange in my favorite (and the ONLY) "classic" Trek movie where phasers were fired (Wrath of Khan), so reddish/orangish/yellowish they shall be here too :)

  • Hehe, Anim8or FTW :)

  • Nice... looking forward the rest!

  • Good, good...

  • It's interesting that you've decided to use the orange/yellow color from the films and later TV series for the phasers instead of the traditional TOS blue. I think it gives your project a closer connection to the other shows that TOS needs.

This is good stuff, Prof. Can't wait to see more!

  • @buckaroohawk: Thanks :) The color choice wasn't accidental. In the F/X shots already completed there's already a very bluish overall color theme, especially in the hue of the asteroids and the gaseous remains of System L-374, the cool blue-gray metallicness of the Enterprise and her sister ship Constellation, and of course our "guest villain" the Doomsday Machine itself. The reddish-yellowish-orangeish phasers will give a nice bit of color balance during Decker's phaser attack.

  • He didn't get the orange/yellow color for the phasers from the later shows - the phasers WERE that color in the original 1967 episode of "The Doomsday Machine."

TOS phasers could be adjusted to various intensities and came in a variety of colors, from blue to red to green.

  • @PromusKaa Yes exactly (green? really? Never remember seeing them green!)

  • Phasers on stun usually produced a green beam (or blast), as when the hand phaser in "Journey to Babel" stuns the Andorian/Orion with a green blast. The ship's phasers could also be set to stun (also with a green beam), such as when they were used to stun the warring gangsters in "A Piece of the Action." :)

  • Hmm...after the other great scenes you've already given us (the Enterprise going after the PK, etc), this almost seems like a letdown. How about having the Enterprise moving fast while it's firing? We've seen enough slow, lumbering ships shooting things.

  • In my eyes these "slow lumbering ships shooting things" is better to keep track of the scene as the fast moving ships with shaky cameras like jj abrams Trek or the Battlestar Series.

    5* to this classic phasers.

  • @Thunderchild2604: Couldn't agree more. If my eyes were twenty years younger, maybe the look and feel of BSG and nuTrek wouldn't be so hard to track.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to step outside and yell at some neighborhood kids to get off my lawn.

  • @PromusKaa: OK, I guess I wasn't clear enough: THIS WAS A TEST. I have deliberately slow relative movement of the camera and the animatic Enterprise so that I could see how the phasers looked. You'll see much more dynamic motion in the next test clip coming up on Saturday. :)

  • Sorry! I know it was a test, but I thought it was a motion test, not just of the phasers. I didn't know that the motion was just a "placeholder" of sorts. My mistake, I apologize!

  • @PromusKaa Sorry... came on way stronger there than I meant to. This was strictly a slow-speed test so that I could satisfy myself with the appearance of the phasers when you could clearly see them. The next animatic *will* be the final motion, most likely.

  • Hey, don't worry about it, buddy. I can't wait to see what you have in store! :D
