there's another version of this vid without the dodgy top-of-the-pops "dj" at the start and end - it's from the Cliff Richard show 1970. You'll need to search as the title is just "Aretha Franklin - I Say A Little Prayer".
Thanks a lot NOSAJo1 for commenting my comment. That's mighty good news, that the cancer thing was just a rumor and that she's lost a lot of weight is quite positive. So she can go on and knock us all out with her tremendous soul voice
Thank God for music, esp. music like this. Life wood be so dull without it. We should all pray for Aretha, I heard she's seriously sick, maybe cancer.
The actual backup singers in this video from the The Cliff Richard Show from 1970 are The Sweethearts Of Soul Brenda Bryant, Margeret Branch (Aretha's cousins) and Pat Smith)
What a gem!. She sounds just... incredible...no words. And yes, I agree with the people comments on backing singers, they do a very, very good job. Thanks for posting
No bells. No whistles. Just pure God given talent. LOVE IT......can we now take a moment to discuss the backup singers' choreograhpy. LOL I love how things were so simple and pure.
When she sings this song, I really can feel the meaning of the title '' a little prayer''. Most performances are really focused on the for ever and ever part. She really makes you believe this.
Maybe i'm just dreaming, but wouldn't it be nice if in say..60 years time, when everything has changed ; Technology, education, our whole world. This song is in some of those 'History of Music' museums, listened to by the young generation of that decade.
This is awesome. And, even though most people usually focus on the lead singer, I must say Aretha's backup singers sound so beautiful. It's not often that someone recognizes backup singers, but these women have gorgeous vocals. And they look polished too.
This is a live performance and Aretha sounds and looks great. Love the soulful afro and hoop earrings. I'm glad I found this video. Youtube is the best.
The Sweet Inspirations were NOT Aretha Franklin's background singers. Aretha's sisters were Caroyln and Erma, I don't know who the other girl is. The Sweet Inspirations were another group with Cissy Houston. Atlantic records (which was Aretha's label at the time) often used The Sweet Inspirations as back up singers for their sessions which is why you would think that. The Sweet Inspirations are on Dusty Springfields famous "Dusty in Memphis" album and they are awesome along with Dusty.
@vidform When it comes to well written and arranged songs like this, I not only focus on the lead singer, but the backup singers also make the song because of their amazing harmony. This is what music was all about. Today, it's very diluted. Although there are a few that still write great songs, it's not as frequent. But this clip is an amazing performance

Its a policy that WMG havent blocked some of this to Aretha Franklin that she had signed to Atlantic Records with her song 'Respect' back in 1967.
