G.M. will still continue to get Buried. American Cars simply dont last at all "long term". That's why most Americans buy and drive Toyota and Honda no matter what.
so in other words not much on the inside and all plastic. small engen but it has ok speed but forget it around corners. the handling of this car is why i dont like it. not all races are in striaght lines and even then this dosnt have the pawer to back that up.
In anybody's opinion, if you were to choose a first car (its going to be used) would you choose the Camaro, Mustang, or Challenger? Put pricing and preformance really into account on this one
@13thNoteOfMusic Are you talking about the revamped models or the classics? If it's the new one's I'd go with the Camaro, as far as I know the Mustang doesn't have independent rear suspension so it's not as good handling wise (i'm not sure about the Dodge). The Challenger is also a bit pricey for what you get and I also think the Camaro is the nicest to look at
Back when the Camaro was saying f*&k it for good, they were pushing anywhere from 300-335 hp. With the v6 with 200....now with Chevy doing what it has always done (more bang for the buck) we are seeing a v6 camaro that can run with the stock v8s of the 4 gens. A V6 RUNNING WITH A STOCK Z28 FROM 2002. Yeah it may lose, but only by a little. Mustangs are still far behind like usual but with next years come of the 5.0, chevy will introduce a z28 to compete. (and they will) Still behind Ford? Maybe.
@Stevenhiggles Actually it's going to lose by a lot. a 3200ish pound 305hp car v.s. a 3900ish pound 304hp car. Big difference. My 3700hp 400hp GTO barely eeked out the old camaros in the 1/4 mile by a tenth and 2mph stock
I don't get why so many makers are putting those plastic [or whatever other material] covers on top of the engine; THAT'S WHAT THE HOOD IS FOR. It just creates wasted time whenever you want to work on something.
@dattomcat89 Yeah, I can understand that engines need to be quiet and are not is pretty because of all the wiring harnesses and non mechanical crap they have to put on top of an engine these days, but the least they could do is put something on top of it that resembles that its apart of the mechanical process and isn't plastic. Even Ferraris don't really have any nosey moving parts on top their engines, but they at least cover it up with something that looks like it might be doing something.
I had the good fortune to drive a 1968 390 GT for two months, 5 years ago, and it made a massive impression on me, one that the new 5.0 simply couldn't match when I test drove it. I have the same problem with the new Mustang that I do with all modern muscles cars: they're too synthetic. Any soul or character they may seem to have is specifically engineered to be there, and is not, as it once was, simply an innate byproduct of the design.
@dattomcat89 they have to meet reguations. if it had the old cars engine, it wouldnt have nearly as much power or refinement or fuel economy. you cant sell a car on character anymore, as the japanese so convieniently proved. you need to win the paper race. of course the original is better, thats why they tried to copy it. but in its day, the shelby were built to do everything they do today -fuel economy. today, they have just evolved.
@dattomcat89 Its supposed to look good, and to me and many others it does. Even ultra luxury sports cars like Aston Martin and Masterati use the plastic covers. In showrooms looks great and when showing it off looks great.
@dattomcat89 The plastic covers are for noise reduction, apparently. Looks stupid, and it's annoying, but apparently it reduces the noise somewhat, and the government likes that because they're idiots.
yeeeeaaaaaa, Spinelli! Hey, why doesn't this guy host FLD everyday? Oh, yea, 12 year olds aren't excited by proper enunciation, knowledgeable anaysis, and segments that don't make drunk driving and MdMa seem trendy.... i forgot.
remakes of old cars like this just dont do it for me.. sure they are cool looking- but they just wont be the same.
they cant be low to the ground with the power and modification options like the f-bodys had. all the safety required really limits them for the shape of the car.
plus for me, my old 85 trans am just had a feel to sit in like no other car iv found since.
seat is right on the floor, youre very low in the car, steering wheel perfect angle.
I am not sure about the handling comment by Mike. It gets 0.90g-0.93gs and its Slalom speed = cars far lighter. It gets those stats with mediocre sport tires too. Take the better tires that some other sports cars come with these days, from an Evo X, a 370Z or something and you will get even more out of the car. Its time on the Nur-Ring was also pretty decent, not crazy awesome, but it proves it must handle much better than most people give it credit for; in order to put up the time it did!
ok you're just an idiot. the camaro got .88 gs and it really isn't much of a handler. that Nur-Ring lap time is in the SS and it's just too big, heavy and even with a "modern" suspension it just feels wayyy too bulky. not a good handler
I never said the Nur-ring lap was not the SS. Its time was 8:20ish, which is equal to the last gen M3 (non-special models of course) and older 911 GT3's - BMW M3 E46 (8:22) Porsche Cayman S (8:25) Explain that if it is so bad? By calling someone an idiot, you really need to back that up. Since its release has gotten 0.88g's to 0.93g's. It depends on the day it seems. Even C&D has dif ratings; one article has it at 0.92g's and another way down at 0.87g's. Research and READ for yourself.
I said you're an idiot because you tried to say it's a good handler when the vision out of the car SUCKS and it isn't a good handler at all for what it is.
How so with the V6, if it was a V8 I could see disappointment. There are only a few other N/A V6s out there putting out more hp where it matters, (Nissans for instance). Tested and proven, due to a lighter front end, the V6 model handles and stops better. Since they have a nice 400hp+ SS version, how could you be disappointed by a 300hp V6; that is nearly as much as the older LS1 V8 SS version.

Camaros are alright, i'm not particularly a fan of American sports cars, but if i was to buy a Chevrolet, i'd buy a Corvette.
My favourite American sports car would be a Mustang.
I drive a regular Mazda 6 and if i came into a bit of money i'd buy the MPS version (which they stopped making in 2008 :( ) and an RX8.
If i came into a lot of money, i'd buy a Ferrari 612 and a Bentley Continental.
