fuck...i got my bonsai from a mini kit thing i found at the bookstore...i doubt that its gonna tell me were the fucking thing came from! i dont wanna it to die!
moisture trays are a MUST. They will help avoid root rot and also help limit root growth as root growth occurs primarily in saturated or gravitational water. Having a tray underneath allows the soil to drain to its field moisture capacity and allow the roots to obtain water/nutrients through the micro pores in the soil and their capillary actions. Bit scientific when you get into the details (I've been taking soils classes...) but the bottom line is that you HAVE to have a drip tray.
the part about letting the bonsai tree be able to drain is essential. bonsai tree usually come with drip trays beneath so if anyone doesnt have one i would highly reccommend buying one.
please please please notify as to what to do from this point on !!! there is a lot of white stuff inside, but the shell is definately broken. i am allowing it to soak in water, the other seeds are a little white but im letting them be for now. PLEASE HELP ME AND MY LITTLE BONSAI SEEDLINGS!!!!
HELP!!! i have planted bonsai seeds about three weeks ago, and i noticed the soil was a little dry. im very patient with these sorts of things, however the soil wasnt absorbing the water very well. i decided to take a hair pin and poke the soil to allow water to soak in. BAD IDEA. i poked one of the seeds and i feel like i have killed it :*(
does any one know where I can get jasmine trees or seeds I live in Worcester county near middlesex county too, in Massachusetts. They have no records of having serious bugs or desise so their easy to take care of and nice looking bonsai. I would appreciate help thank you.
Definitely a fungus. You took the right steps. Watch to see that the soil does not get soggy or waterlogged. If it does not dry out properly between waterings, you may need to repot using soil that drains better.
oh, that comment I made last time was ages ago, it was mould.
To cure it, I just left it outside in the fresh air for an hour and it went.
However, I have noticed that the soil drains the water less - I don't know wether this has got to do with the mould or the fact that I have a full carpet of moss.
I had a few bonsais that had full carpets of moss back in my early years, and had nothing but trouble with them -- poor drainage, ants and bugs under the moss, etc. Nowadays I grow a small area of moss around the base of the trunk of most of my trees, and I may add more moss when I prep a tree for a show if I think it needs it.
That is a type of fungus growing on your Bonsai. The colour should have a hint of silver in it. This fungus growing should not harm your Bonsai. This means that you are doing great with your plant, because that fungus appears when your Bonsai is happy, and healthy so it can grow. You shouldn't have scraped the bark of the base, because the fungus sometimes can help the growth of your tree, as well as make it look nice (For people who know what it is, not a sickness.)
@Dimipoke1 to be honest with you, i posted my last comment quite a while back and have sorted out the "problem"
however, I now have a concern that all my leaves have fallen off, and my bonsai doesn't look very attractive. I'm worried because I read on the internet that my type of bonsai is an evergreen and keeps its leaves all year round.
Do you have a camera? If you do, could you take a photo of it and somehow send it to me? Like, maybe post it on your channel somewhere or send it through a letter. (I don't know if you can send pictures through YouTube composition letters. If you can, send some of one or both sides of the plant, and a close up.) If there is nothing I can do, wait until Spring, which is the main season of plant growth. (If it is alive by then. Touch wood.)
If you can, would you be able to send some images of your Bonsai to my YouTube inbox? (I'm not sure if you can send pictures through the composition letters, but if you can, please do.) Try and send images of both sides of the plant, and a close up of the "Dryness." If you can't, post them on your channel, or I will give you my email address through the YouTube mail.
If there is nothing I can do, wait to see if any growth occurs by this Spring. (If it is alive by then.)

Hey, I'm interested in getting in to this, it sounds like a really neat hobby. Could anyone recommend some good books or websites for a beginner? thanks!
@bunn1989 Ive just started growing bonsais and found that there is not really much need to read up on them they sell seeds on ebay almost any seeds you would want all you need to do is to plant them in good compost and as soon as they seedlings of a few weeks old replant them into bonsai soil also sold on ebay. Ive had success with a variety of trees so far, such as the african baobab tree, candain redwood canadian maple, hornbeams etc just need to take into consideration the trees requirements.
@bunn1989 Well you can see these vides but u posted this 2 years ago and i'v only got my bonsai tree today and i wanted to know are you a pro at bonsai trees now??
Hi i got a bonsai tree as a gift i dont know if it is an outdoor in indoor ive had it for 5 days now..it looks like a pine tree to me i dont realy dont know much about it but am willing to learn.I live in Western Sydney Ausralia it is now spring starting to get hot and humid any tips would be appreciated
For Junipers the whole "Water daily" does not really apply right? Arent you supposed to let the soil dry out slightly, and to moisten the soil when watering it? These Elms and shit are different right?
Yes, let the top become visibly dryer (note: dryEr don't let it dry out COMPLETELY) before watering. If you keep it too wet, the roots will rot out and the tree will die.
Also note that a short period of overwatering will not harm your tree, but if you keep at it you'll slowly kill it.
Remember to keep outdoor trees outdoors because symptoms also do not show immediately.
pruning the leafs or twigs.. so that the they'll bud-back closer to the trunk and become more dence., the dence foliage u get the smaller the leafs get..
I am currently growing a bonzia Apple tree. And I have two questions. Will the tree produce apples (my younger sister is dieing to know) and I'm going it outside, will i need to bring it inside durning the winter. We have winter for 2 months but it normaly gets 0 celsius.
yes, it will grow apples. they will be the normal size apples so make sure the branches that are producing them can withstand the weight of the apple..
I believe that back-budding involves pruning most of the leaves from a branch, with the exception of two or three at the tip, which promotes new leaves or bud growth further down on the branch.
its not the best idea to grow a junperus in ur house because it need that state of dormancy that is provided in the winter. it would probably end up dieing from stress
Depends on the species and how much sunlight is available. I water my juniper, boxwood and ficus every other day in the summertime, and every 4 days in the winter. Ficus goes indoor in the winter months.
hELp me pls !! my juniper s DYING ! please help me ! i dont know what to do ! i keep it indoors ! n water it every other day ! how do u take care of yours ! PLEASE HELP ME soon PLEASE PLEASE ! :(
submerge the pot in water till u see no bubbles left seeping out of the soil. it may take a while then leave it outside.. its ok though to bring it inside for a show-case but its an out door plant.
also if ur not sure u may not watered the Juniper properly stick ur finger in the soil about an inch". feel if its moisted, if not water it or the thing that helps me most is i baught a moister reader..
Yea you can grow it inside the only difference is it has to get sunlight from the outside or use of grow light. Also if its a nontropical you have to simulate the winter months.
You might look at using a plant that is tropical and needs to be inside. A willow leaf ficus is good for indoor bonsai. Or maybe a fuscia for a small bonsai. Something like a Pine or maple (temperate) would probably do better outdoors.
No he won't, Not EVERYONE is American. I am sure this nice bonsai man doesn't want crap like that poster on his page. If you are that superstitious you should consider the bible you might actually believe that as well. I don't believe in eternal soul so thats impossible, more about bonsai

At the base (just before the roots) of my bonsai, there appears to be a white sticky "fluffy" looking substance.
It could be wooly aphid, but it smells of mould. I have replaced the surface of the soil and I have scraped the bark off the base.
Can anyone advise me what to do now?

I think you could set it outdoors in a place where it gets both shadow and sun, it's very important that your tree don't dry out.
