ugh!! I'm 8 cm away from going to the world youth this year. I've made the meet standard (4.50) but Team Canada will only take me if I jump 4.58.

i feel your pain, i was the only kid in the UK to make the GB team standard, 4.80, except i'm a month too old. ha. and we had someone who was the right age, but was only on 4.70 :( but he got to go to the european ones instead so no biggy really

In pole vaulting, volzing is the intentional (as deemed by the track officials) use of the hands to reposition the crossbar. If officials agree an athlete is guilty of volzing on a jump, the jump is considered a failed attempt or the competitor may be disqualified.

I don't think pole vault is even included in track & field competitions for high school athletics in the US. or at least, not in NYC...not enough room, probably, although it could also be the lack of interest.
