Also, why in the name of Rassilon did they stick Colin in the nightmare rainbow coat when he looks so darn good in black! :O I woulda been like ; " Here, have some leather. Black leather. And velevet. And satin. that's nice. Yep. Here ya go, have some cool boots while your at it!"
@borgduck I agree and I also think Colin should have been cast as Blake instead of Gareth Thomas. Colin would have been a better choice of actor for Blake in billions of ways, he would have stayed in B7 for season 3 and B7 could well have gone on running for more than 4 saesons and we might have got 10 seasons of Blake's Seven. What is your view if any, on my opinion of Colin Baker should have been cast as Blake in b7 please?.
@TomthatiscalledTom I think Colin is ace as Bayban in billions of ways, but I personally think he should have played Blake instead of Gareth Thomas nothing against Gareth. I found Colin has staying power, which Gareth tended to lack Gareth cleared off after series two of Blake's seven and it was disappointing to Gareth's fans. What do you think if anything, about Colin Baker playing Blake in Blake's seven and sticking around longer if he had played Blake?.
Director: "Right lads, I want to see those eyes working. Left and right, go on, move them!" - it's odd seeing a younger Colin Baker in something less silly than the awful costume they got him for Doctor Who. He should have worn black, it suits him.
I would love to see a version with the guy across from Bayban/Colin Baker played by Peter Davison. Just something about the way the guy says "oh no" reminds me quite a bit of Peter Davison's doctor.
Thinking more about my last posting, Colin did play Bayban in that grand, OTT style.
Mind you, the script did call for that kind of acting. Paul Darrow must have seen it, and decided that he would do the same to Colin's show in TIMELASH.
Talking about short Who Tenures, why didn't they bring back Paul McGann as the Doctor. If Eccelston only wanted to appear in one series (another waste of a regeneration) I don't know why he left, but it would have been nice to give it to Paul apart from one film
The average consensus here is that; Colin Baker is a nice bloke. If he hadn't had such dire scripts during his tenure, didn't have that prolonged hiatus enforced by that incredible shit Michale Grade, and lost that coat (maybe dress him up in something morbid, and depressing. To reflect his mood. Kinda like the Valyard or a undertaker) acting wise, he could hold his own with any Doctor!
I'm also sure he would have had a wonderful rapport with Paul Darrow, if he had been Blake.
I am still hacked off that Colin, was elbowed out of the role of the Doctor he would if he could have stuck around longer in the role have been a bloody good Doctor and he would have got to achieve the full potential he was unable to do when he was the doctor for two and a half seasons. The short tenure Colin had was a crap length of time to play the Doctor, much as Colin had no wish to leave the part of Doctor Who at anytime in the then future. I wish Colin could have played the Doctor longer.
I wish that Colin could have played Doctor Who for as long, if not longer than Tom Baker. Colin had much to bring to the part it is a bloody shame, he was ousted from the role having only done two and a half years which really is sod all time at all to play a part he loved and had no desire to quit in a hurry . Colin was not permitted to do what he wanted to to with the part, he grew on me a is one of my top favourite doctors of all time. He came back for big finish, which was good and fun.
I thought Colin's role as Bayban in B7 in city at the edge of the world, was excellent he was also excellent as dr. who. He should have been allowed to continue much longer in the role, of Dr. Who than he actually ended up doing it was a shame he could not play the Doctor as long or even longer than Tom Baker. I know that Colin would not have become arrogant, like Tom Baker did Colin would never go around thinking like Tom the show would be dead without him. That attitude is foolish and daft .
I personaly think Colin's role of Bayban in this episode of B7, was bloody excellent he in my opinion would have made a damn good Roj Blake, if Gareth Thomas had not got cast in the role. I am not slagging Gareth off in any way, but Gareth would not stay in B7 after season 2 ended which was a bloody shame. I always assumed after season 2 of B7, Gareth would return for season 3 and continue fighting arch-enemy Servalan. Colin had he played Blake would have stayed with the series, and never left.
Colin Baker was never given full reign to do what ever they wanted like the Other Doctors were.
JNT: "Be Agressive, Argue more, Here's the Script & Wear this Coat made from bits of all my Hawain Shirt Collection". Colin Baker was NEVER given a chance to be himself. Otherwise, he would have PISSED on Peter & Sylvester.
@therealKINDLE Here, here. Pete is my favourite but I think of all the actors to have played the Doctor, Colin was undoubtedly the most passionate and enthusiastic and generally thrilled to be playing it. How ironic that his tenure should be the shortest. Peter seemed to be embarassed by it afterwards - until there was MONEY to be made from DVD commentaries.....
@kamelion7 Indeed. Peter never really had that extra Element that the others had if you ask me. He was just a basic actor. My Least Favourite. See, Bill was Dr WHO. But Pat was the Very 1st "Doctor". And if it wasn't for his Veteran Acting, the show would have never progressed past the 1st ever Regeneration. Pat is My Favourite Dr. But Colin is without a Doubt the most underated. Tom, was the most Over-Rated & used Humour as a cheap way of bumping up figures. Just like Love does now.
@therealKINDLE It's interesting you should mention Pat working so well because I remember meeting Colin Baker several years back and he said that his two favourite Dr's were Bill Hartnell and Pat Troughton. He said like you that had Pat not been so successful the show would have faded away in to nothing but credit also has to also go to the casting department who had the good judgement to cast him and whoever hit upon the unique concept of regeneration.
@kamelion7 I think it is a damned shame Colin Baker was not cast as Roj Blake in Blake's 7, he would have been my first choice to offer the part of Blake to. It is several billion pities Colin was not Blake in Blake's 7 I know for a fact if Colin had played Blake he would have stayed in B7 for series 3 and B7 might have continued much longer than it actually did. I was well hacked off when Gareth Thomas cleared off, and left Blake's 7 because he said it was beneath his acting abilities silly man
@kamelion7 Technically his isn't the shortest - the honors go to McGann and Eccelston (the latter I know is popular but I think his attitude has always harmed my view of watching him in the role).
Colin was an excellent Doctor and when you hear him in "Big FInish" you can see what he could've been had he been given better scripts (they're not all gems but they are not tripe either here), and had a decent costume. I am in the minority on the coat - it'd been better in blue - I hated the rest.
@therealKINDLE Yes, the way Tom Baker blatantly sent the whole thing up after Leela left was scandalous. He became so arrogant and thought Doctor Who was dead without him!! How wrong he was. That appalling kind of propriatorial attitude ALWAYS comes back to bite you, I like Tom as a personality but his conceited dismissal of other actors past and after that played the part is a horrible trait which he still displays to this day.
@kamelion7 I agree with your statement, Tom Baker sent the whole thing up, and was so arrogant. The way he thought the show was dead without him, was a bloody foolish attitude to have no one is indispensible and thinking like that does not pay. I have held my present job for over 21 years, but I don't go around saying or thinking the company would be dead without me. I know damn well it would survive long after I am no longer part of it, it will survive when I like other people am dead and gone
Ok, it's official. It is now FORBIDDEN to say that Colin's outfit on Doctor Who was hideous, I mean LOOK AT WHAT HE'S WEARING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so leather and studded and WRONG!!!
@1gallifrey1 I think Colin is excellent in this part, but I personally think he should have been cast as Blake and he would have been very to Gareth thomas but at least Colin Baker had he played Blake he would have stayed around in Blake's seven longer than Gareth Thomas and also Colin Baker would have never given up a job like that. He said when he became the Doctor he intended to stay in the role of the Doctor, for either as long as Tom Bakers sven years or if at all possible saty much longer,
@1gallifrey1 I think Colin was ace as Bayban, in Blake's Seven and I think Colin should have been cast as Blake instead of Gareth thomas who had no staying power and Gareth cleared off after two seasons and if Colin had played Blake he would have stayed around longer than Gareth Thomas and B7 might have run for ten seasosns who knows?.
